I often use this restaurant because it doesn't have any breaks in its business hours! Despite winning the curry contest grand prize, it's not very crowded. I love the taste and I'm happy to be able to eat in a less crowded place.

Ordered the curry at Hino-ya. It had a slight spiciness, strong umami, and a hint of sweetness. It was delicious and right up my alley. However, the portion was quite large, and towards the end, it was a bit overwhelming, so next time I'll go for 70% portion. The Nanban curry was also decently tasty, but I felt the tartar sauce somewhat masked the curry's uniqueness. Personally, I recommend starting with the Hino-ya curry. You get Fukujinzuke as a side. It was just average, nothing special.

It seems like a curry restaurant that came from Kanda, Tokyo, with a specialty of "sweet at the beginning, spicy afterwards, leaving a lingering taste of curry roux." There were quite a variety of toppings available, but I decided to start with the simple "Ninoya Curry" with just a soft-boiled egg on top to savor the roux. It came with a side of Fukujinzuke and radish sprouts as condiments. When I tried it, it was indeed sweet at first, but the spiciness quickly followed, with not much of a time gap between the sweet and spicy flavors. It's a fairly easy-to-eat sweet and spicy curry that's suitable for most people. The only downside was that the rice was a bit mushy and the Fukujinzuke wasn't very tasty.

Visited in April 2023 ◎ At the time of posting, the restaurant had a rating of 3.04 on Tabelog (based on 12 reviews) ■ Specialty Katsu Curry (Regular/Large) for 890 yen. The renowned "Ninoya Curry," which won the Kanda Curry Grand Prix and entered the Hall of Fame, has also opened in Kyoto at Shijo Karasuma! It seems to be their first store in Kyoto. The menu has a wide variety of curry toppings, but I decided to go with their signature dish, the "Specialty Katsu Curry," which I ordered from the ticket machine. The curry was generously poured over the rice, with pickles and Fukujinzuke on the side. The crispy katsu was served in bite-sized pieces, making it easy to eat. The curry had a good balance of sweetness and richness, with a hint of spiciness that kicks in as you eat. It's a curry that would appeal to a wide range of people, offering a sense of comfort. They also had "Tenkasu" (tempura batter bits) for seasoning at the counter, which added a nice crunchy texture to the curry. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

A famous curry restaurant from Kanto is apparently making its debut in Kyoto. I ordered the specialty Katsu Curry for 890 yen with an additional cheese topping for 100 yen. The extra rice portion is free. The curry is sweet and thick, with a lingering spice aftertaste. However, it's not really to my liking.

I had a light lunch, so I chose the egg curry. You can select less rice on the ticket machine for 680 yen. You can also add a soft-boiled egg. I should have chosen the soft-boiled egg instead of the raw egg, as it would have been better. The curry was quite ordinary. The selling point might be the feeling of the title after eating. If you're looking for something more special, you should probably spend 200 yen more and go for the pork cutlet curry instead.

A new curry restaurant has opened in Shijo Shinmachi. It seems that they also have branches in the Kanto region! The interior of the restaurant is small, with 6 counter seats, a table for 2, and a table for 4. They have a ticket machine system for ordering and only accept cash. I ordered the baked cheese curry. It arrived in about 3 minutes after I sat down. The portion of rice is the same for regular and large sizes. The curry sauce is very thick and gooey, surprising me. It starts with a homey taste of vegetable sweetness, but gradually the spiciness kicks in. It has a tingling sensation that makes you want some water. Eating it with cheese makes it milder and just right. However, the cheese wasn't baked enough, lacking a crispy texture. I finished the meal feeling full! Overall, it was a speedy and affordable curry that filled me up. Interestingly, the person who sat next to me received their pork cutlet curry in less than a minute! I wonder if the cutlets were pre-fried. The staff seemed to be mostly university students working part-time, chatting while they worked. It was a satisfying meal!

I went to this restaurant with high expectations because it was their first store opening in Kyoto and they had won the Kanda Curry Grand Prix. This time, I tried the Tonkatsu Curry with a regular size rice portion of 300 grams. It was a style where curry was poured generously over the rice topped with tonkatsu. The curry was quite sweet and the tonkatsu was crispy, not losing to the curry. However, I found the viscosity or thickness of the curry a bit too much, it was thick and gooey, which made it hard to eat after finishing about half of it due to the sweetness and stickiness. There was a reputation for being delicious, but it felt somewhat underwhelming to me...

On March 2, 2023, Wednesday, I visited the restaurant around 8 pm. There were no other customers at that time. I ordered the famous seven-minute portion of pork cutlet curry using the ticket machine system. It took about 5 minutes for the curry to be served, which felt a bit long for a curry restaurant. Perhaps it was because they needed to fry the cutlet? The curry was delicious! It tasted like homemade curry, typical of Japanese curry. It was rich but not too spicy. The texture of the cutlet was also good. Despite ordering the seven-minute portion, it was quite a generous amount. I was completely full by the end of the meal.

Visited on February 2023, the restaurant was in pre-opening phase until March 1st, when it officially opened. I happened to pass by and decided to go in. During the pre-opening, they only had one menu item, the "Ninoide Curry," with the option to add toppings. The Ninoide Curry was half price at ¥340 instead of the regular ¥680. I ordered the Ninoide Curry, which was served within a minute. It was a tasty curry with well-cooked vegetables and spices, offering a balance of umami, sweetness, and a hint of spiciness from the spices used. Since it was pre-opening, the lack of variety made it feel slightly overpriced at the regular price. However, adding toppings would likely enhance both the quality and quantity of the meal. Overall, I believe there is potential for improvement, and I look forward to seeing how the restaurant progresses.
