Located about a 4-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall, this shop recently opened a bakery cafe at Cafe Shizuka. I was curious about it because it was featured on Cambria Palace. They have a wide range of morning and lunch menus, including the cafe's famous fruit sandwich. I couldn't decide which one to choose, but I went with the egg sandwich for 302 yen. The flavor was mild and suitable for children to enjoy. It was more filling than I expected, and even eating just half made me full. It's a casual place to visit. If I have the chance, I would like to try the fruit sandwich as well.

At the counter, I ordered lunch. I chose one of the three lunch options and picked two breads from the counter. The drink was optional for an additional 200 yen. I waited for my order to arrive at the second-floor seat while snacking on the bread. After eating, I cleaned up. There was a toaster available.

Today, I visited a bakery in Kyoto's Sanjo Meiten-gai called "Pan to Coffee SHIZUKA." It is a new concept from the long-established coffee shop "Kissa Shizuka" in Senbon Imadegawa. They focus on making everything from scratch, and their popular item, the "Fruit Sandwich," can be enjoyed here. In addition to the signature Fruit Sandwich (460 yen), they also sell pastries and savory bread. The prices range from around 200 yen to 300 yen per piece. The first floor serves as the bakery and sales space, and it felt a bit cramped with four customers inside. The second floor seems to be the eat-in space. I decided to enjoy the bread I purchased on the second floor. It is self-service, but they provide water as well. You can also enjoy the bread without eating in. The second floor is more spacious with more seating compared to the first floor. There was a microwave available for use. Here are the items I tried:
- Fruit Sandwich: This is Kissa Shizuka's most popular item. It is a thick fruit sandwich with various fruits such as mandarin orange, strawberry, kiwi, peach, shine muscat, banana, pineapple, and apple mixed in. The strawberry-flavored whipped cream on the cool and soft bread was delightful, and I enjoyed the various textures of the fruits. The moist and soft bread was delicious.
- Croque Monsieur: This sandwich has ham and plenty of cheese. When heated in the microwave, the cheese becomes gooey. It was delicious to enjoy the sliced potato and ham sandwiched with warm cheese.
The coffee is a blend of Brazilian beans, Colombian beans, Ethiopian beans, and others, offering a deep coffee flavor. With a budget of around 1,000 yen, I was able to enjoy a nice lunch. It is a lovely bakery that can also be used for lunch. It's great to be able to enjoy Kissa Shizuka's Fruit Sandwich in the city of Kyoto at Senbon Imadegawa!
