I enjoyed a course meal filled with eel dishes. The eel eggs were rare and delicious, and went well with beer. The sashimi, grilled eel, tempura, and eel hot pot were all delicious. The only disappointment was the corn tempura, which lacked flavor. However, the delicious hot pot soup made up for it. The somen noodles and porridge were quite filling, so make sure to go on an empty stomach. I highly recommend this restaurant for eel lovers.

I made a mistake with the reservation date, but the staff kindly accommodated me and I had a wonderful experience. The female owner was very kind and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the 11,000 yen course meal which included sashimi, grilled conger eel, a recommended dish, deep-fried conger eel, conger eel hot pot, somen noodles, and rice porridge. I also enjoyed Kyoto's local sake. I am already looking forward to trying the fugu course in the cold season next time. Thank you for the feast!

Yesterday, for the third stop, I visited "Wakou Yubei" located on Nishiishigaki Street, which is down from Ponto-cho and Shijo Street. I was surprised because I had only heard that it was a fugu (blowfish) meal gathering in Kyoto. I had set my Facebook birthday notification settings to not show at all, but it seems like they remembered, which I am grateful for. The taste of the dishes at this restaurant varied between hits and misses, but in the end, it was a good experience. Thank you for the meal. #Kyoto #Sentomachi #NishiishigakiStreet #Kappo #Yubei #FuguMeal #Surprise

It was very delicious. Eel dishes are definitely best in Kyoto! We had an eel full course meal in a private room. The restaurant is located very close to Pontocho, so it was easy to find. The service was also very good. I would like to go again.

Located on the west side of Shijo Saiseki Street, this restaurant is not well-known even among the locals in Kyoto. It is situated across from the famous Kyoto ryotei "Chimoto." Established in 1935, this longstanding establishment specializes in serving conger eel in the summer and blowfish in the winter. The set menu starts at 8,000 yen. The taste, service, and atmosphere are quite ordinary. During my visit, the highlight was the conger eel and matsutake mushroom hot pot, but I personally found the grilled natural ayu with roe to be the most delicious. While the prices may seem a bit high, considering the location and labor costs, it may be justified. The 10,000 yen course menu with drinks costs an additional 18,000 yen per person.

The firefly squid and young ayu fish with yuzu dressing, tessa, grilled shirako, bamboo shoot soup, tempura of mountain vegetables, fried blowfish, onion and white fish roe over rice, bamboo shoot rice, and many other dishes were all delicious. I especially want to eat grilled shirako again. Thank you very much.

I had a 7,000 yen fugu lunch course with sake. The food was delicious, the head chef was friendly, and the hostess took good care of us. It was a great experience.

In March, it's time for fugu. Fugu sashimi, grilled fugu, and fugu porridge. And don't forget about Wakasa's guji! Eating these dishes makes you truly happy. This restaurant is a great place to spend time no matter what season it is. I will definitely visit again.

I was told that it's okay to order one serving of conger eel hot pot. It was served in a bucket instead of a pot, which added to the atmosphere. The landlady served everything for us. The texture of the conger eel was the best I've ever had. The broth was also delicious!

The blowfish grilled on a shichirin is incredibly delicious.

The half-price service for the card is good, but if dining alone at the standard price, the cost performance decreases. It's natural blowfish though, so there's no help for it...

I visited this traditional restaurant in the nostalgic district of Ponto-cho, thanks to an invitation from a certain credit card. The cozy counter was occupied by a couple of tourists and an elderly gentleman dining alone. We enjoyed a fugu course, starting with fugu sashimi, raw shirako, grilled shirako, grilled fugu, fugu tempura, and tetchiri. Despite being a well-established place in Ponto-cho, the atmosphere was not intimidating at all. The friendly young proprietress made us feel very welcome, and we had a delightful dining experience even as first-time visitors. I heard that in summer, they serve conger eel, and I would love to try it next time. In winter, with a reservation, you can enjoy the rare and delicious Matsuba crab. I definitely want to visit this place again.

I went to Yubei based on a recommendation from an acquaintance. When I made a reservation, they said only the counter was available, but on the day of the visit, they kindly arranged a private room for us. It seemed like a family-run restaurant, with a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We had a course meal, starting with steamed shirako (milt), followed by grilled fugu shirako, fried fugu, and a fugu hot pot. The portions were just right and everything was delicious!!! The grilled fugu shirako, in particular, was amazing!! If you go there, be sure to order it.
