The soba noodles used here have a strong flavor and a smooth texture. Please try them with the added mountain wasabi condiment. I bought the regular size for 430 yen with a coupon from the ticket machine, and also ordered the chicken karage for 150 yen. The mild spiciness of the mountain wasabi is refreshing and delightful. They also offer a large size for 580 yen and a special size for 680 yen.

This store is always reliable no matter which location you visit. I usually eat the parent and child rice bowl, but this time I tried the pork cutlet curry for the first time. It was a bit heavy. I feel like they stopped offering lunch sets around the time of the coronavirus. I always used to get the lunch set, so I hope they bring it back!

This is a shop I often visit. It is located on a corner with large windows, making the interior very bright. The spacious interior allows for a relaxed atmosphere. The morning set menu they offer has great value. I tried the "Negi-raa oyakodon" on this day, and it was quite delicious. They are dedicated to developing new menu items, so it never gets boring.

There are quite a few "Nakau" restaurants in Kyoto, or at least that's the impression I have. Anyway, on the way to the Kaoru Kanjiro Memorial Hall from Kyoto Station (located on Gojozaka), we got off the bus at Kawaramachi Gojo and found this restaurant right away. My companion was feeling a bit peckish and was curious because they had never eaten at "Nakau" before, so we decided to visit this place. It seems that the ordering system has changed to touch panel ordering since the last time I visited a restaurant in this chain, which was many years ago. I ordered the "Kamatama Udon" for 390 yen, while my companion ordered the "Kitsune Udon" for 430 yen. When the food was ready, a machine voice called out our number, so we went to pick it up. I sat at a two-person table as the four-person table was dirty with napkin remnants from the previous customers. Each table was covered with stickers promoting recommended dishes. After a few minutes, our number was called, so I went to pick up our food. My Kamatama Udon was delicious, with a tool provided to separate the egg yolk for those who prefer only the yolk. The udon itself had a nice chewy texture and was tasty. I also tried a bit of my companion's Kitsune Udon, which had a unique dashi flavor. However, we were both surprised by the affordability of the meal at only 820 yen for the two of us. I was impressed by the company's efforts, but it also made me briefly concerned about the future of Japan.

I was curious about the Katsuo Tataki Don from Nakau. The Katsuo Tataki was well-marinated with a strong flavor and no fishy smell. They didn't try to compete with freshness, which is commendable. The amount of Katsuo was generous and satisfying. It was a good choice to include dashi chazuke. The spacious and clean self-service Central Kitchen store allows for a relaxing dining experience.

I visited on February 16, 2015, after participating in the Kyoto Marathon and safely completing it. On my way home, I stopped by this restaurant for lunch. I purchased a meal ticket from the vending machine. I usually go for the parent and child bowl, but after running a full marathon, I decided on curry and rice. I had the Japanese-style curry and cutlet along with small udon with fried tofu. It was a hearty lunch with a satisfying amount of food. I am full and content. Once I get home, I plan to take a nice bath and get some sleep right away. My stomach is full and I am very satisfied.

■Visit Date: August 10, 2014■Ordered Item: Oyakodon (Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl)■MEMOVisited on August 10, 2014 during a 1-night, 2-day trip to Kumano. Due to the impact of a typhoon, we decided to head back home today after visiting all the main attractions yesterday. However, all the highways were closed, so we had to take the local roads for about 5-6 hours to get back to Kyoto. We arrived at the morning market around 2 pm feeling relieved. For lunch, even though it was late, we stopped by Nakau and had their delicious Oyakodon. The soft and fluffy egg was delightful, and it was a tasty Oyakodon with great value for money.

On the morning of the second day in Kyoto, I went to Nakau. I ordered the Gyudon (beef sukiyaki bowl) in large size and a set with miso soup and salad. The Gyudon was flavorful, and each ingredient had a rich taste. The miso soup was also delicious!

I usually use the Karasuma Takatsuki store, but on my way back from my morning walk, there are three takeout ticket machines, which are convenient. On weekdays, the store also offers original bento boxes.

Nakau has finally started serving breakfast sets. It's strange that they haven't offered them before. I ordered the signature dish, the fried egg set. It said that rice refills are free, so I got a large portion. I also added some pickles on top. It was quite delicious. The fried egg set for 250 yen is reasonably priced and good. Please continue offering these breakfast sets in the future.

I sometimes have a strong craving for Nakau's oyakodon. I really like oyakodon in general, so I'm grateful that I can enjoy it at a reasonable price. What I had: Oyakodon regular size (490 yen) and small duck soba (340 yen). The small duck soba came with duck meat and tempura. The broth was delicious, with a nice touch of yuzu. The oyakodon had plenty of chicken and the egg was cooked just right. I like the slightly sweet broth. Since there wasn't enough sauce, I added the duck soba broth to the oyakodon, and it was surprisingly good (lol).

In the fall of 2016, I saw a commercial for the "Fresh Sea Urchin Bowl" and it made me really want to try it, so I visited this restaurant. The restaurant is located along the Kawaramachi Gojo intersection, which is a very easy-to-find location. It is just a few minutes' walk from Keihan Electric Railway Kiyomizu Gojo Station. I visited on a holiday around 2:15 pm. It had been a while since I had been to a Nakau restaurant. I found out that this branch operates with a ticket vending machine system. I purchased a ticket for the "Mini Fresh Sea Urchin Bowl for 590 yen & Miso Soup for 100 yen" by operating the touch panel. Since it was my second stop of the day, I chose the mini size for 890 yen. I handed the ticket to the staff, took a tray and tea, and sat down at a table of my choice to wait. After a while, the staff brought the menu to me. The mini bowl looked cute. When I placed it next to the tea cup, they were about the same height. Even though it was a mini size, there was a generous amount of sea urchin and salmon roe on top. Looks delicious! Oh, wait, there's no wasabi. It was in the menu photo, but does it not come with the mini size? Well, let's move on and lightly drizzle the special soy sauce on top. I took a bite with both sea urchin and salmon roe in my mouth. Wow, it's delicious! The sea urchin melts in your mouth. Just as I expected. The texture of the salmon roe is popping in my mouth. Also as expected. I'm glad I like both sea urchin and salmon roe. Surprisingly, the miso soup was also good. It had ingredients like seaweed, chopped fried tofu, chopped green onions, and spinach. The flavor was rich and satisfying. This menu item is said to be the most expensive one at Nakau so far. The regular size for 890 yen is quite a high price for this type of restaurant. Considering they use fresh sea urchin and salmon roe, maybe this price is reasonable... I'm not very knowledgeable about seafood, so I have no idea if this price is appropriate or not. The restaurant is quite spacious and you can have a leisurely meal. The numerous windows let in a lot of natural light, creating a nice atmosphere. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on August 15, 2012, around 8:10 am. There were 7 customers before me and 5 customers after me. The restaurant was being run by 2 male staff members. There are automatic food ticket vending machines on the left and right as soon as you enter. There is a large table on the left that serves as a counter seat, and there are many movable table seats for 2 people lined up elsewhere. I visit this restaurant for breakfast once a week. This time, the morning set menu has changed, so I tried to upload a picture, but the restaurant is not registered on Tabelog. Finally, Nakau has introduced a 200 yen morning set menu. It includes a fried egg, and the natto set and salmon set now also come with a fried egg. As a result, pickles are no longer included. I usually order the "salmon breakfast for 390 yen," but this time it has changed to the "salmon fried egg set for 400 yen." It's a 10 yen increase, but that's understandable. The fried eggs are pre-made and a bit cold, which is disappointing. I wish they would make them fresh to order like Matsuya, but I suppose some people might not like the longer wait time. Previously, Sukiya's "egg over rice set for 200 yen" was the cheapest option, but now Nakau has joined the 200 yen breakfast war. It seems like it will be an even tougher battle for independently owned restaurants. Once again, I apologize for reviewing a chain restaurant, but I wonder why they are not registered on Tabelog? Even though there are people registering closed restaurants and hotels in Kyoto, a prominent chain like this is not listed.

I went to Nakau at 7 a.m. and ordered the Small Tan Tan Udon + Oyakodon set. The order took about 8 minutes to arrive. It felt slow, maybe because there was only one staff. The taste was not bad, but I don't want to go there again.
