Luckily, I was able to get a seat, but the restaurant was full afterwards. With such a low price, I thought everyone would come. I quickly finished my meal and left to make room for those waiting.

It seems that inbound travelers wake up early, as the accommodation was quiet after 8 am. I opted for the morning set breakfast with miso soup and dashi tamagoyaki for 430 yen. The small portion of cold tofu with green onions was a nice touch. The dashi tamagoyaki was lightly seasoned. There were two ticket machines on the right side of the entrance to purchase meal tickets. The staff took my ticket, but I wasn't sure if I was supposed to take it to the counter myself. I moved to the left side when a businessman sat in front of me. I enjoyed my meal with self-service green tea and hojicha (roasted green tea) in hot and cold options. A group of students cheerfully said "thank you for the meal!" as they left, leaving me in a good mood. They mentioned they were heading to Osaka next, so I wished them a fun trip. I went to this restaurant for the first time, which is located right by Gojo Station in Kyoto. I originally planned to go to Yayoiken next door, but I was curious about this place as well. I ordered the grilled mackerel set meal without hesitation. The prices were cheaper than Yayoiken and they offered free rice refills. The portion of grated radish was generous. The meal was very delicious.

After entering the store, we were asked if we were okay with sharing a table if it gets crowded, but thankfully it didn't happen. During lunchtime, since the neighboring soba restaurant had a long line, we opted for this place which was cheap and convenient. I went to get the pickles with the self-serve system. Despite being this type of restaurant, they had a wide range of serving times. The hot chicken cutlet (with a thick breading) was wrapped in a sweet egg.

They are open even late at night. The restaurant next door, Yayoiken, was closed but I was returning home at that time. Since it was after Mambo, no problem? Also, the tonjiru was delicious and I definitely want to order the bonito tataki again next time! It was less than 1000 yen, so it was a bit crowded.

I visited around 20:10 on a regular day. I was seated right away. - Miso Chanoko Soup Set Meal 790 yen - Hot is justice! The tofu and chicken tempura in the miso chanoko soup were very delicious. After eating, I noticed that the skin on the roof of my mouth was peeling due to a burn, but I have no regrets! - The miso chanoko soup wasn't spicy at all but had a hint of chili pepper flavor, which was tasty. - The salad dressing was sesame dressing, but personally, I felt it didn't go well with the chicken tempura dipped in tempura sauce. Similarly, I felt it didn't go well with the miso chanoko soup either. Eating the shredded cabbage with sesame dressing alone felt kind of awkward.

To the left is "Yayoiken" and to the right is the famous soba restaurant "Yoshimura". I had the best soba of my life at "Yoshimura" last night, but unfortunately, the photo disappeared, which was disappointing. The store was still dark and not open yet. It opened at 5 am. I ordered the morning set meal with natto from the ticket machine. Both the previous and later customers also ordered the natto morning set meal, which made me proud as a former Ibaraki resident to see people in Kansai casually eating natto. The morning set meal includes natto, seasoned seaweed, miso soup, rice, and pickles, with free refills of rice and pickles, and a choice of green tea or roasted green tea. After getting off at Gojo on the Kyoto subway Karasuma Line, I found this place sandwiched between McDonald's and Yayoiken where I could have breakfast. It looks like a similar style of restaurant to Yayoiken, but I've never been here before so I decided to try it out. I ordered the morning set with bacon and eggs, natto, and raw egg. The bacon and eggs and miso soup were average. The natto and raw egg over rice were delicious, although you can find this dish at other places too.

Reasonable prices, generous portions, and consistently delicious food are what I personally associate with this corner restaurant. I prefer it over the neighboring restaurant, ○○○ House. The Handmade Pork Cutlet Bowl and Mini Udon Set (with extra rice for 790 yen) not only had a good amount of rice, but the pork cutlet was also sizable. Although the scrambled egg was a bit lacking, it was cooked well. The seasoning was good, and overall, the meal was well-balanced for a chain restaurant. The udon was simple but well-prepared, with a good dashi flavor that complemented the pork cutlet bowl nicely.

On December 31, 2019, while wandering around Kyoto city at 5:30 PM, I came across a restaurant called "街かど屋" located next to a popular soba restaurant with a long line in front of it near the exit K10 of the subway Gojo station. It seemed to be a 24-hour dining place, and we decided to give it a try. We purchased meal tickets from a vending machine at the entrance, and I ordered the "Mixed Fry Set" for 760 yen, while my wife ordered the "Classic Nabeyaki Udon Set" for 860 yen. The warm tea provided was a nice touch, and we were delighted to find out that rice refills were free with a self-service rice dispenser. The food was served promptly, and my mixed fry set came with Worcestershire sauce on the side. The portions were generous, and the taste was satisfying. My wife's nabeyaki udon was a bit salty for her liking, but overall, we both enjoyed our meal. We finished dining by 6:30 PM and then headed back to our son's apartment to rest until around 9 PM.

When I passed by this shop right next to the hotel where I stayed, they had a sign for miso soup. The next morning, I decided to try it for breakfast. I ordered the "Natto Breakfast" for 400 yen (tax included) and added miso soup for an extra 210 yen (tax included), which I changed to sake lees soup. Since sake lees soup wasn't on the menu, I paid the cashier in cash. The meal included rice, natto, egg, seasoned seaweed, and the sake lees soup. It was served in a large bowl with plenty of ingredients. The sake lees soup had chunks of sweet potato in it, making it quite enjoyable. The restaurant's specialty seems to be unlimited rice refills.

I got hungry in the middle of the night and couldn't find anywhere to eat, so I had no choice but to enter this restaurant. I was surprised when I entered because it was crowded! Despite it being 11 PM, the restaurant was at 80% capacity. I ordered the mackerel simmered set meal since I am trying to lose weight, and sat down. It arrived in 10 minutes. The mackerel was on the lean side, but surprisingly tasty. It was decent for the price. When I tried to get a second serving of rice, I noticed there was no rice pot. Then I realized, it was automatic? The rice automatically falls down when you press a button (laughs).

After finishing a business meeting at noon, I had a leisurely lunch planned but suddenly had to visit another place for a meeting. I hurriedly bought a Mackerel simmered set meal for 630 yen from the ticket machine and it arrived in 5 minutes. The rice was standard, and when I went for seconds, the rice automatically dropped down from the machine. The miso soup seemed mass-produced, and the mackerel simmered dish was okay. Overall, it seemed like mass-produced food. In terms of cost performance, it was decent. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at Gojo Station in Kyoto. On my way from a hotel near Shijo-Karasuma to Kyoto Station, I had breakfast here. I chose the mini salted mackerel. It was served in just 2 minutes and even though it was small, the salted mackerel was delicious. I ate the rice with the cold tofu and mackerel, and finished with a bowl of tamago kake gohan. Miso soup tastes especially good the morning after drinking alcohol. You can have a refill for only 390 yen, which is quite satisfying. I didn't get a refill this time, though. Alright, my stomach is full now. Let's head back.
