Located about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, Kani Doraku is known for its traditional crab dishes. This time, we ordered the limited "Spring Special Course: Washoku" for 7,480 yen (tax included). The course included a variety of crab dishes such as boiled crab, Taraba crab and yuba sashimi, crab chirashi sushi, crab mantou bun, rapeseed flower and crab roll, crab miso dressing with yuba roll salad, and a crab claw and seasonal vegetable assortment. Additionally, we enjoyed the crab chawanmushi, grilled crab shell, crab and shiitake mushroom sauté, crab sushi, clear soup, and dessert. The crab and shiitake mushroom sauté had a French-like taste and was quite delicious. The live crab sushi melted in our mouths as always, and the Taraba crab tempura provided a satisfying crunch. Kani Doraku is truly a great place to enjoy delicious crab dishes.

I was the first one to make a reservation. The seats were filling up quickly and it became full. There were many overseas customers as well. The food was all delicious! I was so full! It was a set course menu, but the first dish took over 15 minutes to come out, and I was a bit stressed because I was hungry. It took about 2 hours for all the dishes to be served.

After a long time, a group of four colleagues, including two beautiful women, decided to have a meal together. One of them expressed a desire to go to Kanidouraku, so they made a reservation for the Kanikaiseki Yosaki course at the Kanidouraku in Sanjo. They entered the restaurant, excited to try it for the first time in Kyoto. They were seated in a private room with a sunken hearth. Each person ordered their preferred drink, with one opting for draft beer. As the drinks arrived, they raised a toast, filled with joy for this long-awaited gathering. The meal began with a crab vinegar appetizer and a steamed turnip as the seasonal dish. The crab was full of meat and delicious, while the turnip was a gentle and comforting dish with a subtle dashi flavor and wasabi aroma. Next, they enjoyed crab sashimi, served with the claw and leg intact. The wasabi and soy sauce complemented the sweetness of the crab, delighting everyone's taste buds. They then had a crab chawanmushi, which was a perfect warm dish for the cooling weather. The crab-flavored chawanmushi was a delightful treat. This was followed by a crab gratin with crab meat hidden beneath the creamy sauce, a dish that was enjoyed by all. The tempura course featured crab tempura, eggplant, and possibly shiitake mushrooms, all served with tempura sauce and grated daikon. The crab tempura was plump and flavorful, perfectly balanced with the delicate tempura batter. The meal continued with crab kamameshi, crab soup with hand-rolled wheat gluten, and pickles. The kamameshi was cooked in crab broth, topped with plenty of crab meat, creating a delicious and comforting dish. The hand-rolled wheat gluten soup was a refreshing palate cleanser after the rich kamameshi. Lastly, they enjoyed green tea ice cream with matcha sauce, a perfect ending to the crab course. Overall, the Kanikaiseki course provided a variety of dishes with a good balance of crab flavors. The meal was not only satisfying but also facilitated lively conversations among colleagues, making for an enjoyable two and a half hours in the private room. They all left feeling content and looking forward to the next opportunity to visit Kanidouraku.

I'm a person born and raised in the Showa era, so when I think of a nostalgic commercial song, the "Tore Tore Pichi Pichi Kani Ryouri" song comes to mind (laughs). I may be considered unconventional for enjoying crab dishes in Kyoto, but I thought maybe it would be less crowded there since people in Kyoto may not think of indulging in crab dishes when dining out. With this sneaky thought in mind, I went to Kani Doraku Kyoto main store. I had previously been to Kani Doraku in Umeda, Osaka with a friend for a lunch course, but I didn't feel like I had eaten much crab, so it was a bit unsatisfying. This time, I went for dinner! The restaurant must be serious about their dishes...or so I hoped (lol). The result was extremely satisfying - an abundance of crab dishes served in various ways such as sashimi, hot pot, grilled, fried, etc. The crab was so fresh and delicious! The female servers in kimonos were all young and beautiful. Impressive, truly Kani Doraku!? The male staff were also handsome. The only downside was that I wish the seating was a bit more like private rooms. In the Osaka store, the open layout made it easy to see other customers, so I was prepared for it, but still felt a bit uncomfortable eating alone. If they ever renovate, I hope they consider semi-private seating arrangements where each group can sit more independently. Also, even though it's a sunken kotatsu-style table, not having a backrest made my back tired after a while. It took me an hour and a half to finish the course, so a backrest would be nice. Looking towards an aging society, having all seats as chairs and tables might be a good idea. Despite writing these sophisticated suggestions, it was a truly satisfying night at Kani Doraku in Kyoto! I hope to bring my crab-loving father here someday...with these thoughts in mind, I returned to Osaka from Kyoto on the Keihan train.

I suddenly felt like eating crab, so I went to Kanidouraku. I have used their services several times before, but this time I visited with my children. Despite the noise and inconvenience we caused, they treated us politely and I am grateful for that. On our way out, they even gave us some hats to wear, which made the children very happy.

♡【Crab Lover】♡I went to my favorite crab restaurant, Kanidaraku, for lunch! It's a wonderful place for crab lovers ⸜( ˶'ᵕ'˶)⸝ I was already excited before going there - ̗̀ ( ˶'ᵕ'˶) ̖́- When I arrived at Kanidaraku, I was greeted by a staff member in a kimono ( ᵒ̴̶̷̤-ᵒ̴̶̷̤ ) They took our shoes at the entrance and led us inside the restaurant ( ◜︎࿀◝︎ ) The interior was beautiful, like a small ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) (ˊ︺ˋ)♡ We were served crab vinegar and a seasonal dish upon being seated, and the presentation was really impressive, pleasing to the eyes as well ˶ ̇ᵕ​ ̇˶♡ I usually don't enjoy crab sashimi, but the "crab sashimi" at Kanidaraku was surprisingly delicious and not fishy at all, so I enjoyed it♪♡ The crab sukiyaki hot pot had a delicious crab broth that was so flavorful ꒰ঌ(ˊ˘ˋ )໒꒱ Sukiyaki is probably one of the best ways to enjoy crab, and I truly savored every bite♪ I'm sorry for the cliché comment, but it was really delicious (;▽;) I bet it would be amazing to make crab porridge with rice and eggs at the end...♡ The crab chawanmushi had a smooth texture and a strong crab flavor - ̗̀ ̖́- The aroma of the grilled crab with lemon squeezed over it was divine ( ˶˙ᵕ˙˶ ) The perfectly seasoned and crispy grilled crab was absolutely delicious! There's no way this could be bad! It's definitely delicious♪ The freshly fried crab tempura was hot and crispy, and the crab meat was tender and flavorfulーーー°ʚ♡ɞ° It was really delicious (◜◝)♡ The crab sushi was made with plenty of crab meat, and it was so delicious, truly delicious ( ˶˙ᵕ˙˶ )︎︎♡ The light crab broth was the key to the delicious soup⸝⸝- ̫ -⸝⸝ It was delicious! I used it for a regular dinner. I made a reservation in advance and headed there, where I was guided to the most calming tatami room at the back. This time, I ordered the crab kaiseki "Keiki" for 6,820 yen, which included a crab appetizer (crab vinegar, crab miso, two types of appetizers), crab sashimi, crab sukiyaki small pot, grilled crab, crab gratin with club sauce, crab tempura, crab sushi, soup, and dessert. Since it is during a state of emergency, alcohol was not served, and the last order was at 7:00 pm, with the restaurant closing at 8:00 pm. The kaiseki meal took about 90 minutes.

I visited last year at the end of June for my mother's birthday lunch and ordered a 7,000 yen course. I remember there were small dishes, vinegar three ways, sashimi, grilled dishes, hot pot, and the unforgettable crab miso battleship sushi! I'm always impressed by how delicious the crab miso from Kani Doraku is. Adding a little bit of crab miso to the final rice soup makes the flavor even richer. For dessert, we enjoyed some fruit and felt completely satisfied! The rice soup at Kani Doraku in Shinjuku is light and clear with plenty of broth, while the one in Kyoto has less broth. It's a matter of preference, but I think I prefer it with less broth! Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I had visited the Fushimi branch at night recently and it was delicious, so I decided to try their lunch menu. Everything was delicious. The crab was especially good. The rice dish was enjoyable with the added broth, I had a relaxing time. When I left, the rain had stopped so I headed to a donut shop. Next time, I'll definitely go again.

After some consideration, I decided on the usual lunch menu at the crab restaurant. I had a variety of crab dishes such as crab salad, crab sashimi, crab chawanmushi, crab gratin, crab tempura, crab rice, and crab soup. And there was a special crab sake that Hiroshima didn't have. It was like fugu fin sake, but with crab. The lightly grilled crab meat was put into hot sake with plenty of crab essence. It was delicious. I wonder if this crab sake is only available in Kyoto. I wanted to have another serving, but I have some sightseeing to do in the afternoon, so I'll resist the temptation. Now, off to Kennin-ji Temple!

The grilled crab I had last time was dry, but this time the grilled king crab was cooked perfectly! The meat was very large, juicy, and satisfying to eat.

I have been to Kaniya-san a few times before, but this was my first time at Kanidouraku-san. They had a limited-time special course from January 15th (Tuesday) to March 31st (Sunday) featuring a super-sized crab shabu-shabu course called "Kanzakura" for 10,000 yen (including tax). The course includes boiled half crab, two types of crab sashimi (Snow crab and King crab), crab shabu-shabu, grilled crab miso in the shell, grilled crab, Kanidouraku roll, soup, and dessert. I have taken photos of everything included in the course. The crab shabu-shabu was very large and satisfying to eat. It was easy to eat since it was shabu-shabu style, and it was really good. In addition to the course, we also had crab porridge. The staff at the restaurant prepared it for us. We shared two portions for three people, and there was quite a lot of it. It was delicious too. When I checked their website, there was a notice that they will be revising the menu prices and dishes from April 1st. I wonder if the prices will go up? I'm glad I was able to go before the changes. Last year, I couldn't go because I couldn't get a reservation, but finally I was able to go after a year♬ When I entered, I had to take off my shoes and go to the second floor where it wasn't a private room, but it was like a semi-private room with a good distance from the next table, so it was great◎ I chose the Crab Sukiyaki Course "Kinmizu"▪️I started with a refreshing dish because I chose the Crab Vinegar Hot Pot Course♬ The meat was soft and easy to eat◎▪️Crab Sashimi It was fun to take the meat out by myself◎ It was delicious to eat as sashimi◎ There were 3 pieces, but I wanted more◎▪️Crab Miso I ordered a shell-grilled dish as a single item and ate it when it was ready♬ It was rich and delicious, addictive◎▪️Crab Sukiyaki Vegetables and crab were brought in for the hot pot♬ The broth was exquisite and made me want to drink more◎ There was plenty of crab in various parts, so it was satisfying to eat◎▪️Gratin I also ordered another gratin as a single item♬ It was hot and rich◎▪️Zosui They checked the flavor intensity and added more broth to adjust it◎ They made zosui with diluted broth, and although it was too strong when I ate it before, it was just right and delicious◎▪️Dessert Yuzu sherbet was served as a palate cleanser◎ It was refreshing and although I was full, I could eat it smoothly and feel refreshed◎ Everything was delicious, and I wanted to eat more, but my stomach couldn't keep up. I visited the Kyoto main store of "Kani Doraku" located on Sanjo Street in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. Although Kani Doraku can be found anywhere, being in Kyoto, the restaurant was filled with foreign tourists. They offer various types of crab dishes, so if you feel like eating crab, Kani Doraku is a good choice. I had tried going without a reservation a few times before and couldn't get in, so it's better to make a reservation before going.

I became a lunch refugee in Kyoto and happened to stop by a place called Kani Doraku where I was lucky to get a recommended course of crab sukiyaki. No matter when I come, the taste remains consistent and delicious.

Lunch at this restaurant starts from the 2000 yen range, and you can enjoy crab at a reasonable price. I often visit restaurants in Tokyo, but I don't think there were any set meals in the 2000 yen range. Everything is delicious, but the crab kamameshi, in particular, had a rich flavor and was very delicious. I would love to see similar set meals available in Tokyo as well.

The crab legs are made in a way that they melt in your mouth. The rice porridge at the end is something I want to eat, but I'm too full to eat it.
