There was a bit of a gap, but here is a revisit. Today, I went alone and it was past 9 PM. I had the liver sashimi. The portions here are large, so I asked for a bit less. There were no other customers yet, so I chatted with the owner. The quiet night in Kawaramachi is also nice. Thank you for the meal. (May 2016) Located on the 3rd floor of a mixed-use building just south of BAL Building, this restaurant is quietly tucked away. I visited with two acquaintances for a second round. We entered around 9:30 PM. The place was quite lively, especially with young people, and the atmosphere was not bad. Well, I was the oldest among us. The tall owner was laid back, casually attending to customers. Since we were already quite full, we ordered just one dish, the momo (thigh meat) tataki with ponzu sauce. It was delicious. The Nagoya Cochin chicken meat had a firm texture, with a thick cut for tataki, which might be a bit tough for those with weak jaws. Grated daikon radish in the center of the meat, topped with grated garlic that added a sharp flavor. The owner mentioned that his family runs a Nagoya Cochin restaurant in Kyoto. Due to facility constraints, they mainly serve dishes plated on dishes, and the menu is based on the owner's improvisation. The relaxed atmosphere was very nice, and the restaurant happens to specialize in Nagoya Cochin dishes. Thank you for the meal. The drinks were also good. So, the purpose of this secret project is to solve the mystery of the three "Tori-ko" chicken restaurants in Kyoto! In conclusion, there is no relation between them. It just happened that way. The oldest of these three restaurants also acknowledged this, saying, "I gave it a very cliché name, didn't I?" with a wry smile. However, all three of these restaurants only have 2 reviews each, with no ratings for the other two. To rectify this, I decided to write a review. The names of the restaurants, their founding years, locations, existing reviews, and the results after the third review are as follows (as of August 11, 2016): Tori-ko: Established in 2014, located in Marutamachi, Kawaramachi. 2 reviews. No rating → 3.03 Tricoh (Torico): Established in 2008, located in Takoyakushi, Kawaramachi. 2 reviews. 3.16 → 3.21 Torico (Trico): Established in 2014, located in Gojoshaka, Higashiyama. 2 reviews. No rating → 3.06 So, in conclusion, in Kasuganomichi's "New Rule for Tabelog!" #20, this time it's a bit straightforward. For those planning to open a new chicken specialty restaurant in Kyoto, please refrain from using the name "Tori-ko." It's already fully booked.

I visited "Tricoh" located between Sanjo and Shijo on Kawaramachi Street. It is on the 3rd floor of a building near BAL. The atmosphere is relaxed and the menu is quite laid back, depending on the day. The restaurant uses Nagoya Cochin chicken for their dishes and it is really delicious. The restaurant is run by the son of a restaurant called "Ishi-aburiyaki Kawamura" in Mimasaka, Uji. The interior is not very spacious but has a calm mood. You can request various dishes rather than choosing from a menu. Here are some thoughts on the food I tried: The "Sasami, Avocado, and Tororo Yukke" offers a nice contrast between the texture of the chicken and avocado. The "Usuzukuri" makes you crave sake, similar to fugu sashimi. The "Momo Amiyaki" is rare inside and really tasty. The "Momo Karaage" is also delicious, especially as it uses Nagoya Cochin chicken. The "Aburi Sashimi with Ginger Soy Sauce" is also very tasty. If you want to enjoy chicken dishes, this place is perfect. Just keep in mind that the restaurant is run by one person, so it may not have a very formal operation. It's more of a casual and enjoyable atmosphere. It may be best for those who want to relax and have a good time. The location on the 3rd floor of a building may be a bit hard to find, but they are open late and have a counter where you can enjoy a drink alone.

The place is located on the 3rd floor of a building between Sanjo and Shijo on Kawaramachi Street. There is a salon specializing in extensions in the same building, and its sign is prominent, serving as a landmark. This is a new restaurant that just celebrated its first anniversary. The interior has counter seats, table seats, and a small tatami area where you can sit without shoes, so-called bar style. The tatami area is for 4 people, with 2 people facing each other, suitable for small groups or intimate gatherings. It's best to check with the restaurant in advance for larger groups, but I usually go alone or with a few friends, so walk-ins are fine. However, it seems to be getting more popular lately, with weekends sometimes fully booked... It used to be a hidden gem, but now it's a bit bittersweet. The food, as the name of the restaurant suggests, is delicious chicken dishes. They serve high-quality ingredients, such as Nagoya Cochin, in a simple and tasty way. Although it may sound simple in words, the taste is excellent. Of course, they also have a variety of non-chicken dishes, with the daily specials written on a large blackboard. Dishes like tea soba salad give a Kyoto touch. Personally, I enjoy dishes like "Sasami and Avocado Yukke" and customizable chicken karage or grilled chicken breast. They are open late, making it convenient for a second or third stop, but I believe the welcoming atmosphere created by the manager and staff is another reason to visit.
