I went to a unique retro bar in Kawaramachi. It's a Showa-style bar located on the second floor of a retro mixed building. As soon as I got off the elevator, the nostalgic Showa atmosphere filled the room. The retro music of "THE Showa" was playing inside. The walls were lined with familiar signs and posters. The dim lighting also added to the Showa vibe. The sense of being in a different world is interesting. They also had a special feature of all-you-can-eat dagashi (cheap sweets). You can choose your favorite dagashi from a dedicated corner and enjoy them as much as you want. It's like a dagashi shop. It's nostalgic for people like me from the older generation! I chose dagashi that I loved as a child, like "Don Don Yaki." It still tastes the same as before. The ramune drink also had a Showa feel to it. It's a ramune with a marble inside that pops out when you open it. I ordered a set of oden, which included gobo, daikon, konjac, and hanpen. From the counter, I could hear the sound of ice being crushed. Besides the Showa vibe, there were also many customers enjoying the bar atmosphere. I ended with ordering ramen. I chose Chicken Ramen, an old-fashioned instant noodle. The way they serve it with an egg on top and cover it with a plate to steam it gave a real Showa feel. It's a nostalgic taste. I felt like I had slipped back in time and enjoyed the Showa-style bar. The staff were fun, so I ended up staying longer than I intended.

I was wandering around the area of Shijo Kawaramachi today and decided to visit a bar on the second floor of a building facing Kawaramachi Street. Showa-style Bar Retro seems to be themed around the nostalgic world of the good old Showa era. When I got off the elevator on the second floor, I was greeted by various old items and signs that seemed familiar from a distant past. The interior of the bar played nostalgic music symbolizing the Showa era. I enjoyed a glass of Calpis. They also offer an all-you-can-eat menu of dagashi (cheap snacks). I selected favorites like Umaibo, Big Katsu, Don Don Yaki, and Aji Curry. It was a taste of nostalgia. It was quite innovative to have a bar where you can enjoy snacks. There were also canned foods available at the back of the counter. I tried the canned Chicken and Thai Curry by having them heated and eating with a spoon. It's not common to have canned food served as it is in a bar. This seems to be part of the unique charm of this retro-themed place. In addition to dagashi and canned food, the bartender also prepares dishes and appetizers of the day. Although they had Nikujaga (meat and potato stew) today, I decided to add one of the popular menu items of this place. The Red Wiener dish was delicious with plenty of sautéed Takosan Wiener. It's not often you get to enjoy so many wieners in one dish. I had a great time at this unique bar themed around the Showa era. The staff were friendly and approachable, making it a welcoming place for solo customers to casually enjoy. It was a fun experience.

I went to "Showa-style Bar Retro" on the 2nd floor of a mixed-use building in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. The interior is filled with Showa era decorations. The owner is a friend of a friend who came on a trip to Kyoto together. They have a collection of nostalgic snacks from our generation. Eating those snacks brought back memories of school field trips.

The atmosphere was very nice. There was an all-you-can-eat dessert option, but I wish they had a few more varieties to choose from.

The building faces Kawaramachi Street, so the location is easy to find. This place offers all-you-can-eat snacks with your drink order, so start by choosing some snacks from the snack corner. The interior has counter seats and two table sets, and they also serve food like oden and ramen. Even though we already had sushi for our second round, we ended up eating a lot of snacks with four people. The customers range from elderly to students. The place is open until morning, and when we asked if they ever close, the laid-back owner said they usually stay open as long as one of them is there. The lighting inside is dim and reddish, which might look suggestive in photos, but in reality, it's a nice and relaxing place to be.

It was a wonderful shop overflowing with Showa era charm. The moment the elevator doors opened, it was like a flood of retro goods. The uncle was excited the whole time. Electric soda ¥700, cover charge ¥500 (all-you-can-eat dagashi). With some Yocchan squid and sweets, and an electric soda, the mood gradually elevated to a high level. Time flew by in an instant. Next time, I'll definitely bring the Showa squad along.
