About 10 years ago, whenever I visited Kyoto, I would often buy this yakiniku bento and enjoy it. The balance between the sweetness of the yakiniku fat, the tender meat, and the cabbage laid between the yakiniku and rice is wonderful. I remember it used to cost around 1500 to 1600 yen back then, but now it's over 1900 yen. It feels a bit expensive, but I couldn't forget the taste from back then, so I still bought it. The taste remains the same as before, incredibly delicious, and it's still an outstanding bento. Besides the yakiniku and cabbage, there's only pickled vegetables, making it a very simple bento. For some reason, this simplicity is what makes it great. You can also buy it at the Takashimaya department store basement, so please give it a try. You will surely love it.

I visited the long-awaited "Tenten Aru Honten" and had Chinese noodles, then came to this nearby place. It's a yakiniku restaurant, and the "Wagyu Bento" is popular here. I decided to buy it for my family's dinner. The place is located in a quiet residential area, and although they were still preparing, the owner happened to be there. Unfortunately, they were closed on Mondays, but since it was a holiday today, they would open at 5 pm and be closed tomorrow as a substitute holiday. I couldn't wait until 5 pm, so I decided to check at the department store on the way back. I struggled to find the department store but eventually arrived. Unfortunately, the Wagyu Bento was sold out. Feeling disappointed, I left the store. However, I remembered that Kyoto Takashimaya also sells the bento. I quickly found their contact number and called the store. They had 3 left, so I rushed there and managed to get one. When I opened the bento at home, it was visually appealing with thinly sliced meat covering the rice. The meat had a nice marbling, and even though it was cold, the fat hadn't solidified, indicating high-quality meat. The flavor was subtle, with the umami of the meat and a slightly charred aroma coming through with each bite. The shredded cabbage between the meat and rice absorbed the meat's flavor over time, enhancing the overall taste. The pickled vegetables on the side added a Kyoto touch. I enjoyed the bento on the Shinkansen, admiring the scenery outside. Despite the challenges, I was glad I could get it, and my family was satisfied. The cost-performance may not be great, but it's understandable in a tourist area. It was a satisfying meal.

From Sunday to Monday night shift... arriving in Nishinomiya at 13:00... that means!! If I take the Hankyu train from Kawaramachi around 11:30, I should be able to make it. That means!! Let's arrange for a meal at the department store basement gourmet!! So, off to Takashimaya in Kawaramachi to find lunch and dinner. There are so many different things in the basement that it's hard to decide. I was considering a series of side dishes and a simple bento, but as I wandered around... I found a Wagyu beef yakiniku bento from "Hatsuda" that I thought was only available at Isetan!! Priced at 1680 yen. Wow, it's expensive... but I confidently got it!! After a while, I had it for lunch at work. Wow, even when cold, this yakiniku bento is truly delicious. Shredded cabbage is spread on top of the rice, and on top of that, a generous amount of Wagyu beef. It has more weight than I expected. When you bring it close to your mouth, the charcoal-grilled aroma is overwhelming!! The sauce sprinkled all over may be a bit too strong, but it complements the "delicious Wagyu beef yakiniku bento" well. The pickled vegetables are surprisingly good too!! It's no wonder it's a hit on the Shinkansen ride back from Kyoto. I wonder if it was okay to write about it here...? The price of 1680 yen can be a bit controversial, but I appreciate the fact that it's "delicious even when cold" and give it an overall rating of 4 stars.

The grilled meat bento is very famous. Recently, it has become less likely to be sold out, but the taste remains the same as before. It is sold at JR Isetan and Kyoto Takashimaya in Kyoto. I purchased it when I went to Takashimaya. There are many grilled meat bentos out there, but the aroma of this bento is excellent. You can enjoy the deliciousness of the beef along with the aroma. There was a time when I tried to figure out how to recreate that aroma at home, but I gave up (laughs) because you can just buy it. The meat has some fat, but even when it cools down, it is still delicious. The cabbage between the rice and meat is just the right amount and adds a nice touch. The pickled vegetables placed in the corner of the container also have a good acidity and are very tasty, with a suitable amount. If you eat it for lunch, you can enjoy the aroma every time you burp that day (laughs).

I also purchased this bento box at Takashimaya underground. It's a well-known store, isn't it? I had come across a small store at Isetan before, but it was closed on that day so I couldn't buy anything. This time, I finally bought it. The beef bento box was quite heavy. Before eating it, I imagined it would taste like a beef bowl, but when I tried it... it was more like yakiniku (grilled meat) instead. It's a taste somewhere between beef bowl and yakiniku, hard to describe. The beef itself didn't seem that great considering the price of the bento. It wasn't particularly tender or juicy, in fact, the meat felt a bit tough despite being thin. This bento box is very popular, but personally, I found the smell of charcoal too strong and I didn't like it. The rice also had a strong charcoal smell, which made it even harder for me to enjoy. I realized that I generally don't like smoked foods, so this was not for me. Even my husband, who loves meat, didn't eat much of it.

The purpose of a trip can be difficult to define, but for the author, at least when traveling by train, the purpose is to enjoy a station bento box. Starting from Kyoto and heading to Kanazawa on the Thunderbird train, the first thing to do upon arriving at Kyoto Station is to choose a bento box. This choice can greatly impact the satisfaction of the trip. This time, the author chose the "Wagyu Beef Bento" from Hatsuda. Opening the bento box reveals a delicious aroma, with a slightly burnt flavor adding to the overall experience. The author enjoys the combination of sweet grilled beef and beer, finding it to be a perfect match for a train journey. The Hatsuda Wagyu Beef Bento is recommended for anyone looking to enhance their train travel experience.

After having lunch at Nakahigashi, I came to Takashimaya in Kawaramachi to buy a bento box to eat at home later. Among the various attractive bento options, one that stood out was the famous Wagyu beef bento from the renowned yakiniku restaurant HATSUDA in Shugakuin (small size). And it seemed to be the last one left! Despite the bold price of 1296 yen for a small bento, I couldn't resist buying it, being so immersed in reading reviews on Tabelog. Gratefully, I took it home and enjoyed it there! Reading reviews from others, I decided to try it cold without reheating it. Indeed, even though it was cold, the flavor of the Wagyu beef was still there, harmonizing well with the sauce, rice, shredded cabbage, and pickles. The pickled vegetables were also a nice touch! However, to be honest... freshly made and hot is always better, especially when it comes to meat. Despite the reassurance that it's still delicious when cold, I still think I'd prefer to eat it at the main restaurant. As a bento for a train journey, enjoying it while looking at the passing scenery and feeling a sense of nostalgia would be nice though. Thank you for the meal! 🐮

In Kyoto, we decided to have a luxurious bento box festival at Takashimaya's basement floor. We bought the special Wagyu beef bento box from the high-end bento corner across from Hisago Sushi. When we opened the lid, we were greeted by a spread of meat with a faint charcoal-grilled aroma. The visually appealing and aromatic beef, perfectly seasoned rice, and the refreshing shredded cabbage and pickled ginger complemented each other well. This bento box allows you to fully savor its deliciousness and luxury. My wife had eaten this bento box almost 10 years ago when she frequently commuted between Tokyo and Kyoto by Shinkansen. She found it a bit heavy for a young stomach, but incredibly delicious and filling. This time, we shared the mackerel sushi and one bento box between us, and we were able to enjoy it until the last bite without feeling overwhelmed.

At the bento corner where famous shops in the depachika of Takashimaya in Kyoto are gathered, there were piles of "Hatsuda" wagyu beef bento. It still feels slightly warm... Perhaps it was just delivered. I remember previously reserving and getting it at the depachika of JR Isetan at Kyoto Station, but at Takashimaya, you can buy it without a reservation. The bento has cabbage on top of the rice, with wagyu beef yakiniku laid out on top, a simple dish. The good smell of charcoal-grilled wagyu beef spreads out. The meat is tender and surprisingly refreshing, even when it has cooled down.
