When looking for lunch near the site, the prices were surprisingly high due to it being a tourist area! For a day or two of sightseeing, it's fine, but for a business trip of about two weeks, I can't afford to eat at those places every day. I found a bento shop and decided to check it out. The bento box had various carefully selected items. The main dish, fried chicken, was delicious but quite small, only three pieces like Lawson's Karaage-kun. Half of the bento was vegetable-based and healthy. It seems like they offer a wide variety of bento boxes, but paying over 800 yen for a bento is a bit tough. However, I will definitely visit again.

In December 2014, I was walking from Kiyomizu Temple to the Gion area and my legs were so tired. I had bookmarked a few ramen shops in Kyoto because I heard they are delicious, but as I passed by this place feeling exhausted and hungry, I decided to go in. It's a bento shop with seating inside. The menu is also written in foreign languages. I noticed that there was no mention of consumption tax, maybe they don't charge it for foreigners? The prices for bento boxes seemed normal, not inflated for tourists. I ordered a Western-style bento and ate it in the shop. It was neither good nor bad, but it was decently tasty. I never expected to come all the way to Kyoto and end up eating a bento from a shop in Gion (laughs). Thank you for the meal!

I have used it several times, but it seems they have renewed their menu and the bento box I used to order is no longer available. The bento box here contains plenty of vegetables, allowing for a well-balanced meal. It is reasonably priced and friendly to the average person's wallet.

Today, I went to a bento shop in Gion. It's called Yuushokutei and it's located on Higashioji Street. Yuushokutei has several branches in Kyoto, and this one is the Gion branch. There are many foreign customers around, probably because Yasaka Shrine and Yasaka Pagoda are nearby. They have an English menu. The shop also has seating inside where you can enjoy your bento. I decided to eat inside. I tried the Chicken Nanban Special, which is a popular dish at Yuushokutei. It includes chicken nanban, shrimp fry, and karaage. The bento was freshly made and warm. The chicken was delicious, especially when dipped in their special tartar sauce. It's a bento that never gets old no matter how many times you eat it.
