I visited a shop specializing in Turkish fast food called Kumpir in Karasuma, Kyoto. Kumpir is mashed baked potato topped with various vegetables, meat, and sauces. The shop has a takeout stand with a seating area on the second floor. I chose to eat in and went with the standard toppings which included corn, green beans, fried onions, and lots of ketchup. The taste was as expected - simple and delicious. While it may not become a huge trend in Japan, I think it's a good option for a satisfying snack when you're feeling a bit hungry.

I was disappointed to find that the shop I was looking for was closed, but as I was walking around the area, I came across a stylish shop. I thought it was a hot dog shop, but it turned out to be a Turkish potato dish called Kumpir! I was intrigued and decided to give it a try. It was my first time, so I was debating whether to go with something standard, but I ended up choosing the Mexican option. They also had seating available, so I climbed the nearby stairs and found a small and cute space where the staff brought the food to me. First of all, I was surprised by the portion size - I mean, are potatoes really this big?! Next, I was amazed by how smooth the potatoes were. They bake the potatoes in the oven and mix them with butter and cheese. The Mexican toppings went really well with it. I was already full, but I couldn't leave any behind. The ginger ale that came with the set was also delicious, with a spicy and adult flavor. I want to try other menu items that I was torn between, so I will definitely visit again.

I saw this place for the first time, I wonder when it opened? I was hungry so I had some potatoes! The portion size is huge~ It's great. The corn soup was a bit unexpected (lol), but I enjoyed the Mexican food!

Hello. We have been planning to open a Kumplir specialty store for about a year now. Kumplir, also known as Kumpir, is a fast food from the Ortaköy region in Turkey. It is a baked potato filled with butter, cheese, vegetables, pickles, meat, and sauce on top. We are a take-out only shop, and we are the first specialty store of this kind in Japan. We started off a bit unsure, but with the hard work of our employees, we were able to make it happen. There are still areas we need to improve on, but we are working hard to introduce Kumplir to the people of Kyoto. We appreciate your support. Thank you. (From Instagram) Great visuals, good portion size. Looks like it can be enjoyed with alcohol or as a snack. Thank you for the meal. See you later.

A specialty store serving "KUMPIR" - a Turkish dish of baked potatoes filled with butter, cheese, and various toppings - has opened in Kyoto's Kawaramachi. It's like a hot dog, but with a big potato instead of bread. The toppings are plentiful and tailored to suit Japanese tastes. I ordered the Standard Kumpir for 700 yen, and the potato was huge! I had to eat it with a fork because it was too big to bite into. The toppings included green beans, corn, tomato sausage, sprouts, olives, pickled purple cabbage, and onion slices, all making for a colorful display. Since the potato itself serves as the bowl, I was quite full after finishing it all.

I stopped by when I traveled to Kyoto. It's take-out only, so I ate in a nearby park. It's delicious to mix the sweet potato with the ingredients while eating. The main dish is baked potatoes (seems to be Maine). It's healthier compared to rice or bread. But it can make you quite full. It might be good for those who are concerned about calories.
