I visited the restaurant without a reservation. It was quite crowded, probably because it was the weekend. The male cashier was very polite and considerate, which improved my overall impression. Although the timing of the food being served was a bit slow, I didn't feel annoyed thanks to the excellent service. I was able to enjoy a delicious meal without any issues. We definitely need more staff members like him. I would like to visit this restaurant again!

I have ordered takeout from here a few times, and as expected, the quality is always consistent. I usually get the chicken wings, but during the pandemic, I felt a bit hesitant to eat them with my hands, so I decided to skip them this time. There are plenty of other wonderful menu options to choose from, which is very helpful. The staff is also friendly and upbeat. I will definitely be ordering from here again.

It had been a while since I had a meal around Kawaramachi area, and it was my first visit to this restaurant. I heard some good things about it, so I decided to try their chicken wings. They were indeed spicy and went well with alcohol. I also ordered a few other dishes, but honestly, they were just average in quality, like a chain restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

I felt like eating Nagoya cuisine, so I went to Yama-chan. First, I toasted with a medium-sized glass of beer (490 yen)! The legendary chicken wings (486 yen) have an amazing taste that goes perfectly with alcohol! The unique blend of spices is just right. Yama-chan salad (659 yen) is a bit pricey, but the portion size is decent. We also ordered the seafood miso dip (497 yen), chicken tatsuta-age (486 yen), and striped mackerel (745 yen). To fully enjoy Nagoya cuisine, we also had miso kushikatsu (324 yen) and dotenabe (410 yen) until we were full. They even have Taiwanese yakisoba (605 yen) on the menu... haha. There's nothing particularly outstanding, but it was a satisfying meal.

Calling this place one of Nagoya's soul foods might make Nagoya locals angry, but if you visit a friend who went to a university in Nagoya when they were young, you will definitely be taken here, without a doubt. This food that you can eat as much as you want, I wonder what it is. In my case, the agreement was to take friends from other regions to eat either 551 Nikuman if they were from the Kanto region, or Ten Ichi if they were from the Tokai region. The former was simply a difference between Sakuraya and 551, both with an image of eating them on the Shinkansen. However, not only does Sugakiya exist, but also Ten Ichi, which is ramen yet not ramen, and Yamachan, which is chicken wings yet not chicken wings, overlap. Just like how there are no Kyoto ramen lovers who rank Ten Ichi's main store in their ramen ranking, I think Yamachan is also outside the ranking of Nagoya locals. It's delicious, but it's a type of food that doesn't require any further explanation. Whether Coco Ichi deserves to be on the same level is a bit debatable, but I love Coco Ichi so I think they are similar. It's not curry, it's Coco Ichi. My wife had never tried it, so I bought it, but no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find any bad elements. However, for every three, is it really inefficient to have one Highball Lemon? I wonder if the merchants of Owari are thinking about that. Delicious indeed.

My nephew, who loves spicy chicken wings, said he wanted to try them during spring break. Since elementary and middle schools haven't started yet, there were also parents with young children. I was exhausted from the long drive and decided to order five servings of chicken wings, even though I only ate two. The famous chicken wings were small and not very hot. The black chicken wings were slightly larger and had a sauce flavor. The miso pork skewers were wrapped in pork and deep-fried. The miso cucumber slices were very thin and sweet. The mini salad was enough for two people and had a variety of ingredients. The restaurant had a lot of young customers, but it was still welcoming for middle-aged people like us. The staff were efficient and friendly, but unfortunately, the draft beer was not good. Overall, it was a decent experience, but the beer could have been better.

Thank you for coming. I always end up watching the TV show "Matsuko's Unknown World." The other day, they featured the "World of Chicken Wings Karaage." The executive director of the "Japan Karaage Association" recommended over 1000 varieties from around the country. The representative brands, "Furaibo" and "Sekai no Yamachan" from Nagoya were highlighted. Feeling drooling, I decided to visit all 69 stores nationwide. There are 2 stores in Kyoto, one in Kawaramachi and the other in Sanjo Kiya-machi. Today, I visited the "Sekai no Yamachan Kawaramachi Store." I was surprised to see a variety of menu items, not just chicken wings. Cheers! There were plenty of original goods from Yamachan. Unfortunately, the founder, Mr. Yamamoto, who was the model for the caricature, passed away last year. I visited after his passing... As an appetizer, we had cabbage and cucumber. And then, the legendary chicken wings (5 pieces) for 430 yen. The photo shows two servings, so it's 10 pieces. With a strong seasoning of special spices and secret sauce, it goes well with beer. The way to eat was also illustrated on the chopstick bag, making it easy to slide the meat off the bone. I devoured them eagerly. Black chicken wings (3 pieces) for 360 yen. These were soaked in sauce, giving a soft texture. Personally, I prefer the regular ones. There were many limited edition drinks, including a Halloween version. The persimmon highball was easy to drink. I ordered another serving of the legendary chicken wings for two people and that was the end. Devouring only chicken wings... Staying true to my initial goal.

I enjoyed a delicious plate of chicken wings and beer during the day, a perfect happiness. On this day, I headed to Kyoto to watch a movie. It was a remake of that anime that I was glued to as a child. The same title as the live-action movie that Kimutaku starred in the past. It was a nostalgic yet new SF animation. After the movie, I wandered around Kyoto. It was still around 3 o'clock, but I finally decided to visit the chicken wings restaurant that I had been curious about. In Kyoto, there are two locations of the famous Yamachan, one in Sanjo Kiya-cho and the other in Kawaramachi. The Kawaramachi location is open for drinks during the day. As I descended underground from Kawaramachi street, I found myself in a sacred place for drunken underground people (laughs). I tried the "phantom chicken wings" (5 pieces for 430 yen), a Nagoya specialty. It was peppery and spicy, different from the famous Karaiya's chicken wings. It was still delicious. The "black chicken wings" (3 pieces for 360 yen) were saucy and rich, making the beer go down smoothly. Both types of chicken wings were piping hot and very tasty. My wife locked onto the "miso quail egg fry" (3 pieces for 260 yen) on the menu. It was a dish of quail eggs fried in miso paste, and it tasted as expected (laughs). The "miso skewer cutlet" (3 pieces for 280 yen) was also a Nagoya specialty. Instead of sauce, it had miso paste. This taste was just right! Delicious as always. The "iron plate sauce yakisoba" (520 yen) was a hot plate of yakisoba noodles on top of a rolled omelet. It was definitely delicious. The "chicken liver simmered" (390 yen) was a tasty dish of slowly simmered chicken offal with a hint of sesame flavor. In addition to beer, they also had Hoppy as a drink option, and we enjoyed it deliciously and joyfully. I hope they expand to Shiga, a wonderful Nagoya chain restaurant.

I stopped by after buying Ochugen at Takashimaya. I first tried tebasaki at the main store in Nagoya and have been addicted to it ever since. Well, maybe due to my age, I can't eat as many as before... On this day, I also had ebi fry, red wiener, camembert cheese fry, and dote-ni. The red wiener has a nostalgic taste, and the ebi fry is not your typical one, it's unique to Nagoya. The dote-ni also uses hatcho miso, so it has a different flavor.

I tried it once in Nagoya and got hooked! It's not shrimp senbei, but I can't stop eating it! The chicken wings are seasoned with a rich flavor that goes well with beer! You can easily eat a serving of 5 wings in no time! Another addictive dish is the cabbage dish! I once ordered 6 servings for myself... If you're not a fan of chicken, there are other options to choose from, so don't worry. Even if you have to go to a gathering for some reason, it's okay. There's a time limit due to the long line at the restaurant, but if you're okay with a 2.5-hour limit, it's best to make a reservation! The variety of drinks is a bit lacking, especially for shochu lovers like me...

I went on a regular night. It was somewhat crowded, but despite many customers leaving, we were not being seated at all. I peeked inside and saw plenty of empty seats, but the cleanup was not progressing. Once we entered, we realized that there were many seats in the back, with many empty seats in the tatami area. It seemed very strange that there were not enough staff for the number of seats. Furthermore, despite 6 people waiting after us, we were seated at a group table. I informed them that there were about 6 people waiting, and they finally cleaned up a table for two for us. The order was also a mess, with chicken wings coming first, followed by cucumbers, then eggs, and finally the salad. Clearly, there was a lack of staff and training. The chicken wings were delicious, but the rest was mediocre. I had the impression that it was a delicious izakaya, but I was reminded that it was more of a place for younger people to go. It's my fault for having the wrong expectations...

Located in the basement of a building along Kawaramachi Street, this izakaya was surprisingly bright when I arrived just after 5 pm on a weekday. I was the first customer (lol). I ordered the famous "tebasaki" (5 pieces per serving) and the "kuro" tebasaki (3 pieces per serving) to start. The regular tebasaki had a sweet and spicy sauce with a lot of pepper. I licked the sauce off my fingers and thought it was spicy, but when I ate the tebasaki, it was the perfect balance of spicy and delicious, making it a great match with beer. However, I couldn't help but be surprised by how small the tebasaki were (lol). The "kuro" tebasaki had a thicker coating with a sauce flavor. But because of the thick coating, it got soggy when mixed with the sauce (>_<). Personally, I prefer the regular type. I also ordered the "seseri" yakitori, and even though I asked for sauce, it tasted more like salt. The seseri was smaller than I expected, overcooked, and tough. Despite being a yakitori restaurant, they also offer hot pot and fish dishes, so you won't get bored with just chicken (I didn't try the fish menu though). I was pleasantly surprised that it was a non-smoking restaurant, and the menu with pictures made it easy to understand the food and drink options. The staff were efficient and friendly. I might come back here again (*^^*).
