Tempura Hisago I usually avoid going out for lunch on weekends. Prices tend to be higher on weekends, with only expensive courses available compared to weekdays. Some might call me stingy, but I always consider the cost performance of everything I pay for. However, there are restaurants that offer great deals for lunch only on weekends. For example, "Tempura Hisago" at Akihabara UDX serves a mega-sized Daimyo Tendon only on weekends. It looks really impressive in the photos, and I definitely want to try it. 2 Appearance, lunch menu, and atmosphere of Tempura Hisago at Akihabara UDX Akihabara UDX is located just a short walk from Akihabara Station. Tempura Hisago is on the 3rd floor. The restaurant has a rich history, founded in 1918. The regular Tendon costs 1,510 yen, which is a bit pricey but reasonable for a commercial facility. The restaurant is not crowded, and I chose to sit at the counter where I could watch the chefs at work. The menu is extensive, with a variety of options including a special Tempura course. 3 Mega-sized Daimyo Tendon at Tempura Hisago in Akihabara UDX The mega-sized Daimyo Tendon is served hot and fresh. It includes Anago, large shrimp, scallop tempura, and assorted vegetables. The miso soup and pickles served with the meal are delicious. The tempura is piping hot and the sauce is flavorful but not overpowering. The vegetables are crispy and the entire meal is served hot from start to finish. (Continued...)

The rapid-fire ordering system might not be everyone's cup of tea, but after seeing it on Twitter, I felt like trying to take on the UDX Building. I was a walk-in customer and dining alone, hoping to enjoy freshly fried tempura at the counter, but it was full. I was seated at a table instead. Despite my hesitation, since it was my first time at the restaurant and I wasn't sure what to expect, I decided to go for the tempura bowl. The set salad had a casual sesame dressing, which was decent but lacked a strong tempura vibe. After waiting about 10 minutes with a beer in hand, the tempura bowl arrived. The tempura had a thick and traditional Edo-style batter, which paired well with the bowl. The oil had a rich flavor, maybe a bit too heavy. The tempura bowl was also traditional but lacked the extra touch that would make it stand out. Perhaps the quality of the ingredients is good? Still, there was something missing. As it is a tenant restaurant on the dining floor, it didn't seem like the kind of place where you could leisurely drink at the counter, making it a bit challenging to find the right way to enjoy the restaurant.

"Tendon Hisago" is a special place that attracts both foreign tourists and local regulars. Once you step inside, you enter a world of tempura like no other. The tempura course, made with seasonal ingredients, is a must-try. For example, when you take a bite of the shrimp tempura, the flavor of the shrimp spreads and warms your heart. In addition to a variety of menu options including shrimp and vegetables, you can also enjoy creative tempura dishes. One particularly impressive dish is the seafood tempura served with rice, where the moment it crumbles in your mouth, you can sense the new possibilities of tempura. The drink selection is also extensive, with Japanese sake being a perfect match. You can watch the skilled artisans at work right in front of you at the counter. The prices are reasonable, making it ideal for those looking for a mix of luxury and casual enjoyment. Enjoy each carefully crafted tempura dish in a friendly atmosphere. With experienced staff, a welcoming ambiance, and above all, exquisite tempura, "Tendon Hisago" offers a unique dining experience. Why not try it and experience a whole new level of culinary delight?

I went to the UDX building in the afternoon on a regular day to eat tendon. I was thinking of getting the lunch tendon, but it was a hot day and I noticed they also had udon sets, so I decided to go with that. First, I had a salad, and shortly after, the tempura and udon arrived. The udon was thin and smooth, made in Inaniwa style, and very delicious. The tempura was crispy and light. Both the udon and tempura dipping sauce were served separately. I usually eat standing up, so I thought it would be fine to have them together (laughs), but of course, they each have their own unique flavors. And of course, you have to add grated daikon to the tempura dipping sauce. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was calm, and there were many foreigners.

I made a reservation for lunch because my child wanted to eat tempura. The salad was bland and the ingredients were not very appealing. We had to wait for a long time as well. Honestly, I didn't have any particular feelings about it... I felt sorry for my child. Tenya's tempura is delicious.

This week I had a hectic schedule with eating out 4 times. On this day, I decided to try tempura and stumbled upon "Hisago" in Akihabara. The restaurant is located in the UDX building, right in front of the station. The atmosphere inside the restaurant, with many foreigners, really gave off a Akihabara vibe. I ordered the "seasonal tempura omakase course" and the first dish was deep-fried shrimp legs. As a crustacean lover, I was excited to try it but the legs were so sharp that they got stuck in my mouth and it was quite challenging to eat. Next up was the deep-fried shrimp. As expected, shrimp is a must-have in tempura. The crispy batter encased the plump shrimp perfectly. As I chewed, the delicious flavor of the shrimp kept coming through... However, apart from the shrimp, I didn't find the other ingredients to be particularly impressive in terms of taste, texture, or aroma. Overall, it was delicious.

I had the all-you-can-drink and light meal set course. I enjoyed hot tempura fried right in front of me, which made the sake go down smoothly. I completely forgot to take a photo of the main dish because it was so delicious. The restaurant was full even on a weekday night, and those who came without a reservation were turned away. It's better to make a reservation to be safe.

I went to a tempura restaurant with my parents. It was hot, so the chilled tofu as the first dish was delicious. There were many different ways to eat the rice and tempura for the finale, and it was a bit difficult to decide even though we were given five options verbally. The only cold option for the finale was udon, and I was quite full and tired of the oil, so it would have been nice to have cold ochazuke instead.

Tempura restaurant inside Akihabara UDX building. I visited for Sunday lunch. You can see them frying at the counter, serving freshly fried tempura. The interior is lovely, suitable for solo diners or groups. I arrived around 11:30, so it was about 20% full. But by noon, it was about 80% full. I chose the Hisago Tendon (1500 yen) this time. Everything was crispy and not greasy at all. The shrimp was a bit small, but easy to eat and all delicious. The tempura of shishito peppers, which I rarely make at home, was surprisingly tasty. Perhaps they use clean oil? I feel satisfied knowing I won't have any indigestion afterwards. It would be nice to have more tempura restaurants like this nearby. Thank you for the meal.

There was a job in Akihabara, and I decided to have lunch with a client on the way back. The client suggested Hisago, a restaurant close to Akihabara Station. We sat at the counter, where we could enjoy freshly fried tempura. I ordered the Early Summer Taste Set Meal for 1850 yen. The meal started with a salad, and then a plate of freshly fried shrimp and eggplant tempura was served. The tempura was not too heavy, thanks to the thin batter and the aroma of sesame oil used for frying. The tempura included shrimp, eggplant, goby fish, and mixed vegetable tempura. Despite wanting to order more tempura due to the enticing aroma of sesame oil, I ended up feeling quite full after enjoying the tempura. I noticed many customers ordering the tempura rice bowl, which looked delicious and filling. I would like to try the tempura rice bowl next time I visit. The service was polite, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely visit again if I have the chance.

It has been a while since I visited the city center. I felt the urge to savor the satisfaction of eating freshly fried tempura one by one at the counter, but it wasn't an expensive lunch, so I decided to visit Hisago, recalling the past. When I entered and sat at the counter, the other 8 people in the 3 groups were all foreigners. Their voices were loud, reflecting their high expectations. I ordered the tempura set meal (1,440 yen). The ingredients seemed unchanged from 7 years ago. However, due to almost simultaneous orders from the counter customers, the tempura was fried all at once. Various tempura were quickly piled up, and the cooking was completed in no time. I remember that in the past, tempura was served at a comfortable pace while observing my eating speed. Unfortunately, this time, the enjoyment of eating at the counter was halved, and I ended up eating tempura that had lost its warmth halfway through. I think it's the best cost performance to be able to eat "counter tempura" at this price for lunch, but I felt that if they could make even a little effort to provide an entertaining experience for customers at the counter, the tempura could be even more delicious.

A tempura restaurant on the 3rd floor of Akihabara UDX. It's one of the few tempura restaurants in Akihabara. It was almost full before noon. I was able to get a seat at the counter quickly, but they mentioned that it would take some time to fry the tempura. I ordered the Hisago Tendon, which consists of 2 prawns, 2 fish, 1 vegetable, and small shrimp tempura. It came with red miso soup, pickles, and salad. The salad served first was mainly cabbage, boiled and chilled with konjac, a slightly unusual salad. It was light and easy to eat, a good appetizer before the tempura. As for the main dish, the tempura pieces were not too big, but they were steamed well and not greasy. The sauce was light, but the rice was delicious, so it balanced out well. The squid being classified as fish was a bit strange, but I don't mind, so no problem there. The red miso soup also had mushrooms in it, which paired well with the tempura. Overall, it was a solid and satisfying meal.

When it comes to eating tempura, I can't forget the aroma and taste of natural carabiner shrimp... As an explorer, tempura rice bowl is good, but nothing beats carabiner shrimp. However, with the recent cost-performance of farmed carabiner shrimp, I think Banamei shrimp or Tiger shrimp would be good options. In a building located in Hirakawacho, Yurakucho, where a restaurant established in the Taisho era in 1918 is located... Enjoy the taste of 100 years of history. A foreigner also often orders the large shrimp tempura rice bowl and extra large tempura rice bowl. When I asked the chef, who was frying tempura, what kind of shrimp it was, he said the tempura rice bowl uses Banamei shrimp, and the large shrimp tempura rice bowl uses Flower shrimp. Intrigued by the limited edition "early summer tempura rice bowl," I placed an order. The large bowl with a lid reminded me of the overflowing eel bowl from a restaurant in Shimosuwa. The large shrimp tempura rice bowl looked like a typical black tempura rice bowl, but the early summer tempura rice bowl with conger eel wasn't as impressive. It consisted of 2 shrimp tempura, 2 conger eel, edamame, and shrimp tempura with vegetables such as pumpkin and broccoli. The dessert was included with a coupon. The tempura, freshly fried in sesame oil, with a light sauce, felt like eating in front of the chef. The rice was also Akita Komachi, firm and delicious. It was fun to watch the tempura being fried in a copper tempura pot. The sesame dressing on the cabbage and the red miso soup were also delicious.

The tempura that was fried right in front of me was very ordinary. The vegetable tempura was overall delicious, but the fish was a bit disappointing. The sand borer was thinly sliced and crispy like mirin-dried fish, and the squid had a lack of texture as if it had been frozen and refrozen, making it feel like I was only eating the batter. The rice was cooked perfectly and very delicious, but the cabbage side dish was poorly drained, making it unappetizing for me and my friends who went together.

I visited for lunch. I was able to enter the restaurant right away, but was told it would take 30 minutes for the food to be served. I hesitated for a moment, but decided to stay. While waiting, I was served a salad, cabbage and corn with sesame dressing. The cabbage was cooked. There was a little bit of shredded carrots. Then, I was served red miso soup and two slices of pickled cucumber. The red miso soup was delicious. Finally, the tempura bowl arrived. It had 2 prawns, squid, pumpkin, eggplant, and small fish. The dipping sauce was also delicious and I was very satisfied. As a service from the restaurant, I also had yuzu ice cream after the meal. It was a great deal for 1100 yen.

On Saturdays, the lunch course is served with one dish at a time. Goma (sesame) is added, and the salad is boiled cabbage, why? The tempura was crispy, and the shrimp was sweet. I didn't feel heavy, and the last kakiage-don was delicious. The person next to me was eating tendon, which looked even more delicious, haha.

I visited the long-established tempura restaurant "Tempura Hisago," located a 3-minute walk from Akihabara Station and founded in 1918. It is on the 3rd floor of the UDX building's restaurant floor. I arrived around 11:30 am on a weekday and there was no wait. I was able to enter smoothly. I ordered the tempura bowl for 1,100 yen, which came with red miso soup, pickles, and salad. It was served in about 15 minutes. The tempura bowl had shrimp x 2, squid, sandfish, eggplant, and pumpkin. The tempura batter remained crispy until the end and was delicious. The tempura dipping sauce was rich, so the rice went well with it. I enjoyed it until the last bite.

I was introduced to this restaurant by my boss and used it for a get-together with my old colleagues. We made a reservation at the counter for a private drinking session. We chose the all-you-can-drink course and enjoyed the appetizers, sashimi, and a platter of tempura that followed. The tempura was delicious and freshly fried. The portion size was just right, and the clientele was mostly mature and relaxed, making it easy to enjoy conversations while dining. The restaurant is conveniently located near the nearest station and has a pleasant atmosphere, making it a great choice for small gatherings or business entertainment.

I happened to find a seat available and easily entered the restaurant around 12:30 on a Saturday. The counter was spacious, and I could hear the sound of tempura being fried up close. I ordered the regular tempura bowl for 1100 yen along with a bottle of beer. A salad was served first, which contained konjac and provided an enjoyable texture. When the tempura bowl arrived, it was in a large bowl with plenty of tempura on top of the rice. I felt like next time I would order a tempura bowl with even more tempura. The bowl included two medium-sized prawns, which was a good deal for 1100 yen. The fish and vegetables were fried to perfection, showcasing the skill of the chef. I was especially happy to find squid tempura in the bowl, even though it was a bit thin, the flavorful squid was deliciously fried. The miso soup with red dashi had a hint of yuzu flavor, which was also tasty. I hadn't been able to find a delicious tempura bowl in Akihabara before, so I was glad to have discovered this great restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I made a reservation for Saturday at 12:00 pm and visited Akihabara UDX 3rd floor. The set meal included 4 types of seafood, 3 types of vegetables, rice (kakiage-don or tempura bara), dessert, and one drink for 2 people at 6000 yen. I added oysters to my order. I prefer less batter on my food. The restaurant was busy, but most people ordered tempura dishes so the turnover was quick. It had been a while since I could enjoy a leisurely meal, so I was satisfied.
