In various regions of Japan, there are local versions of champon that have evolved from the original Nagasaki champon, and "Omi Champon" is one of them, known as the "soul food of Shiga prefecture". The broth is made from a Kyoto-style dashi base of shaved bonito flakes and kombu, with plenty of vegetables and pork, making it a healthy option. Even when eaten late at night, you won't feel guilty. I also tried the half-fried rice! Adding a little vinegar makes it even more refreshing and delicious. It's easy to eat with slightly thinner straight noodles than champon noodles. Thank you for the meal.

Near Kyoto Gojo Station, there is a shop that serves Omi Champon that I remember enjoying when I visited Shiga before. I ordered the Yuzu Champon with 350g of vegetables for ¥1,000, 2 pieces of Karaage for ¥264, and Yakimeshi for ¥546. The staff consisted of 3 people, with one in the kitchen, one in the dining area, and one handling phone orders. I visited on a weekday evening and the place was constantly busy with customers coming and going, and the staff seemed overwhelmed, especially with handling complaints from a delivery service. I sat at the counter in front of the kitchen, and after a considerable wait, my Champon was left unattended for about 3 minutes after being cooked, resulting in the noodles becoming soggy by the time it was served to me. It was a shame because the soup was delicious. It was clear that the staff was understaffed and it was unfortunate to see them struggling.

I had the vegetable small portion champon for lunch around 11:30, which cost 770 yen. The soup, noodles, and vegetable toppings were all delicious, making it a great value for the price. Adding vinegar from the table enhances the flavor and gives a different delicious taste.

I was walking south on Karasuma Street looking to catch a taxi on Gojo Street when I stumbled upon this place. I often hear about Omi Champon, but I'm not quite sure what it is compared to Nagasaki Champon, and I don't really understand it. In short, the base of the soup is made from kombu and bonito dashi. It's not mainly made from animal-based broth, and the ingredients are not piled up high like in a vegetable stir-fry, but rather quite light. The soup is also soy sauce-based. It feels like a vegetable ramen, but it's a bit different from a typical Chinese-style mixed vegetable ramen, and if you call it champon, well, I guess it is... So, what exactly is champon? It's like trying to figure out the difference between tanmen and something else. But leaving aside this fruitless debate, the conclusion is that it's quite delicious. It's a great way to end a drinking session with beer and vegetables, and slurping the noodles. It's a rational way to finish, and with so many branches in Kyoto, and its popularity amidst the plethora of addictive noodle dishes like Tenkaippin, it must have a lot of fans. It's not something I would get addicted to, but I felt it had a different charm compared to Ringer Hut. Personally, I preferred this one. Just for your reference.

No, it's Champon. Omi Champon has a soy sauce-based golden soup with lots of vegetables on top of Chinese noodles. I wanted to eat vegetables, but adding yuzu to Champon + half fried rice = ¥1100 doesn't make sense... However, it's easier to eat with yuzu in it. Many stores have closed due to the pandemic, so you don't see it often, but let's go back when you remember it.

It's been quite a while since I visited "Chanpon Tei Sōhonke". On a cold day, I felt like having a warm chanpon. I was thinking of getting the regular chanpon, but decided to order the "Chige Chanpon" to warm up. You can choose the spiciness level from 1 to 3. The staff mentioned that level 3 is very spicy, so I ordered level 2. I also got half-fried rice. The hot Chige Chanpon is perfect for this season. Even at level 2 spiciness, it was quite hot but still enjoyable. As I ate, I started sweating, probably because of the generous amount of red chili peppers. It's so delicious. I think it would be even better with oysters added. I noticed there was an option to add seafood toppings, so I'll try that next time. If they have oyster chanpon, I'll definitely go back to try it.

I missed lunch and visited alone in the evening. I had the Omi Chanpon with flavored egg for 900 yen. When you hear "chanpon," you might imagine Nagasaki chanpon, but this was completely different. I also like Nagasaki chanpon, but this chanpon was delicious too. The clear soup had a strong umami flavor. The vegetables were crunchy. Thank you for the meal ♫

I ordered the regular champon. The menu said it was loaded with vegetables, but I think it was just a normal amount. I'm not a big fan of vegetables, so this amount was just right for me. I was happy to see one half-cooked egg on top. The flavor wasn't too strong, and the noodles were chewy and delicious.

The soup, which tasted like concentrated vegetables, was delicious on its own. Adding vinegar is recommended and it was available on the table for diners to use. It was truly a delicious bowl of soup, as advertised. A great Champon restaurant in Shiga. Thank you for the meal.

Sometimes you need to replenish your vegetables, so I stopped by this noticeable restaurant on the main street. I ordered Omi Chanpon with extra vegetables for 900 yen from the ticket machine. The noodles are slightly thick, similar to Chanpon noodles. It's delicious. The soup is lighter compared to Nagasaki Chanpon, but you can keep drinking it. Adding vinegar gives it a different taste, which is also enjoyable. Overall, it's like a typical vegetable tanmen. I am satisfied. The interior of the restaurant is a bit scattered, with only one staff member handling everything for five customers. It looked quite challenging for them.

In Kyoto, there is a restaurant that only opens late at night called Karasuma Street Chanpon Tei. It's open until 11 pm. The chanpon here is different from the Kanto region. They have counter seats and table partitions, and it's common to see women dining alone. You buy your ticket for the chanpon ramen from a vending machine. I had the Omi chanpon for 750 yen. It's a type of chanpon you don't see in the Kanto region, with a golden broth made from Japanese-style soy sauce. It's a local specialty from Shiga. Although I usually find meat dishes heavy, this one was light and delicious. It's said that adding vinegar is the norm. I forgot to add vinegar. I'll have to try it next time in Shiga. The original store is in Hikone. I also ended up trying the fried rice. The half fried rice was 300 yen. It was fluffy, but I was already full. It came with pickles, which I think is a local touch. Chanpon Tei is a popular spot for casual late-night dining in Kyoto. It's been around since 1963 and offers Shiga's soul food at night.

Around halfway between Shijo Station and Gojo Station. I stopped by here today. The interior of the restaurant consists of counter seats and table seats, and the main menu is champon, as the name suggests. First, I purchased a meal ticket at the ticket machine and found a suitable seat. I ordered Omi champon with extra vegetables as a topping. Now, time to eat! The appearance shows plenty of vegetables. It's good that they didn't just bulk it up with cabbage and bean sprouts. The taste is that of Omi champon, but it's quite mild, so I ended up adding pepper and vinegar as I ate. Well, thanks for the meal! It's been a few years since I had Omi champon. I feel like it was even tastier in the past, but maybe that's just my imagination.

Kyoto City is in a state of emergency starting today. Many stores are voluntarily closing until August 31st. Some places like Gyoza no Hekitai and Unatama-don Kane-yo are not serving alcohol. I ended up taking a shower at the hotel and drinking canned beer on my own before heading out for dinner. I walked from Gojo to Shijo-Karasuma, stopping by Nishiki Market along the way. Before I knew it, I had ended up at Shijo-Kawaramachi. Oh well, I bought some pickles at Murakami Shigehon-ten and then returned to the hotel. For dinner, I had Omi Chanpon at the restaurant near the hotel. It was just okay. They were serving beer though. Thank you for the meal.

This is a long-established restaurant originating from Hikone, specializing in Omi Chanpon. They have expanded nationwide, mainly in Shiga Prefecture. Although I was curious about the Chanpon with plenty of ingredients, it seemed quite voluminous so I decided to pass on it this time.
- Special Pork Soba (880 yen + tax): It has a moderately light taste that is easy to eat. The pork slices are cut slightly larger, providing a satisfying chewiness.
- Toro Chashu Rice (300 yen + tax): I bought it without much thought, but then realized it was pork on pork haha. It didn't melt as much as it claimed to be "toro," and was just a normal chashu. There was no special feeling to it as a rice dish, and it didn't have any distinctive features.

I had lunch near Karasuma and came across a retro-looking building with a large lantern that said "Chanpon Tei". It was established in 1963 and for some reason, I felt a sense of familiarity and stopped by. I was unsure of what to order from the menu, but the pork chanpon caught my eye. I purchased the "Niku Chanpon" for 830 yen from the ticket machine, but the price suddenly changed to 910 yen. Oh? Was it still excluding tax at this time of year? I felt it was a bit pricey for lunch, am I the only one who feels that way? The topping added to the chanpon was pork, although in Osaka it's usually beef, so I was slightly disappointed. However, the pork was tender and delicious. It was imported from Denmark. The generous amount of vegetables and tasty soup are common in most chanpon restaurants. After finishing the soup, I saw the words "Daikichi". Feeling refreshed, I faced the work in the afternoon with a positive attitude! Grateful for a healthy body today as well.

Omi Chanpon is said to have originated in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, but it has become quite popular in Kyoto as well. I decided to try it for lunch in the bustling area near Shijo-Karasuma, where many ramen shops are located. Specifically, the restaurant is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Shijo Matsubara, closer to Gojo Street. Inside the restaurant, there are a few counter seats and eight two-person table seats. You first purchase your meal ticket from the ticket machine. I ordered the basic Omi Chanpon for 500 yen and a half portion of fried rice for 290 yen. I was surprised by the low price of the Chanpon. The soup broth is made using seven ingredients such as bonito flakes, mackerel flakes, and Hokkaido kelp. It is seasoned with a light soy sauce base and mixed with sautéed vegetables, giving it a light yet deep flavor. The soy sauce flavor is subtle, with the broth being the main highlight. The noodles are medium-thin and have a slippery texture characteristic of high-water content noodles. The dish is filled with various ingredients such as pork, cabbage, green onions, fish cakes, bean sprouts, and wood ear mushrooms. It felt more like a salt-based ramen than a Chanpon. The balance of ingredients makes it a satisfying and well-rounded meal. The half portion of fried rice consisted of char siu pork, eggs, carrots, and green onions sautéed together with a light salt seasoning. It had a good texture, although slightly oily. While it was decent as a side dish, it seemed a bit overpriced compared to the 500 yen Chanpon. Overall, the Chanpon is a great value for its price, and I believe it is a result of the company's efforts. The fried chicken that the customer next to me was eating also looked very appetizing. It must be delicious fried chicken. Thank you for the meal.

During my trip to Kyoto, I stayed at a hotel near a restaurant. When it comes to champon, I have only eaten it at Ringer Hut before. Over there, it was Nagasaki champon, but here it was Omi champon, which was completely different! One good thing is that you can choose the size. I ordered a small size and also tried the Kyoto Brewery's Premium Malt beer. This one comes in a bottle. Now onto the champon, the soy sauce-based soup was lighter than ramen soup. On top of the noodles, there was stir-fried pork and vegetables, just like in Nagasaki champon. The noodles here were slim and just the way I like them. This place is quite different from Nagasaki champon. The Kyoto Brewery's Premium Malt beer was refreshing and delicious, maybe because it's in a bottle or made with Kyoto's natural water. It's not as rich as regular Premium Malt, so I recommend it even for those who don't like Premium Malt. I wonder if they have something like this in Tokyo? I would love to eat this champon again! Thank you for the meal!
