Close by, there are no sushi restaurants around here, and yet, I didn't meet up with anyone. Oh, I see, they close early at 1:30 pm. "Kiku Sushi" is always closed by the time I get there at 2 pm, during the time when men are not around. Every day, my stomach craves it. What should I get... "sushi~" The recluse in me is starting to feel like going out lately... Maybe I should go for sushi, somewhere new like the recently opened "Magurojin Ueno Hirokoji Branch," or even venture out to the "Magurojin New Nakamise Store" in Asakusa. But it seems like a hassle. Hmm... Maybe I should go to "Uogashi Sushi" in Takeya, but is there one around here...? No, there really isn't. Ah, I remembered! "Kiku Sushi." It's always closed, or rather, only open at night. It seems like they also open for lunch. Haha, I usually pass by after they've closed. The pattern of being distant or estranged because I don't pass by "Kiku Sushi" often enough. I've arrived quickly on my bike, right on time. It's almost empty when we arrive. After we placed our order, the place quickly filled up. It's popular here, with many familiar faces. When I come here, I always greet the head chef first. The counter is set up for solo diners, so I ended up sitting at a table by the wall for the first time. Let's go for nigiri and chirashi. If it's just the two of us, we can order different things to share. "Nigiri" and "Chirashi" it is. The presentation is not disappointing. The fish slices are generous and the tuna shines. The tuna is not medium fatty, but each piece is otoro. Based on this visual impression, it doesn't seem like "Kiku Sushi" is a bad choice. Here are the impressions of the light eater: the shrimp is big and firm, good chewiness and taste. The fatty tuna is rich without being overwhelming. The lean tuna is moist and flavorful as expected. The egg is ordinary but I always end up liking it the most. The conger eel is plump and well-prepared. The simmered shiitake mushroom is not too sweet and has a nice dashi flavor. The rice is slightly soft. Towards the bottom of the bowl, it's a bit mushy. The light eater only eats the top, so I end up eating the rest, which fills me up nicely with just two servings. It's been a while since I visited, but since there are no sushi restaurants around here, I'll rely on "Kiku Sushi" for now. I'll try to wake up early again soon to visit.
