A historic underground soba restaurant in Asakusa. Asakusa has many soba restaurants and places to eat tempura, but people come all the way to this restaurant in Asakusa to eat soba. It's not about cost performance or anything like that, but it just feels good to eat the soba here. It was delicious. It brings back a lot of memories. I wonder how long they will continue. The owner asked if I forgot anything, but I thought, "I hope you're taking care of yourself." It was really hot that day, and the air conditioning wasn't working well...

It's been a while since my last visit, but the noodles are still delicious with a firm texture even though they are thin because they are boiled after ordering. The tempura is also amazing. The standing soba here is of high quality! The nostalgic atmosphere around adds to the charm. I hope they keep this atmosphere for a long time.

It's been about 5 years since I last visited. After coming down the stairs, I purchased a meal ticket at the system and added a topping of egg to my tanuki udon. The broth seemed quite strong on this day. I'm not sure if the nearby stores are empty or not, but I hope this place continues forever.

You can enjoy freshly cooked delicious soba noodles here. The soba noodles are thin and slide down smoothly. The portion size is quite generous. I particularly like the dipping sauce here. It's not too sweet, has a strong bonito flavor, and the soy sauce taste is just right. I think they use Higeta soy sauce. This time, I had the soba noodles with grated rock seaweed and a topping of egg. They also served it with yuzu, which added a wonderful fragrance. I was feeling a bit hungover, but the dipping sauce really soothed my stomach, and I ended up drinking it all. The atmosphere inside the restaurant might appeal to some people. The photo was taken before I started eating, but unfortunately, I ended up making a mess of it... Sorry, the staff had presented it nicely.

Simply put, it's delicious. I also like the atmosphere of the restaurant. I visited three days in a row during the Sanja Matsuri festival. On Friday, it was a great way to end the night after drinking. On Saturday, it was perfect for a meal between the processions. And on Sunday, it was a good meal before the main procession. It's a calm and delicious place, no complaints. I hope this kind of restaurant continues to thrive.

At the entrance to Matsuzakaya Ueno and Nakamise direction from the Asakusa Metro Station ticket gate, there is a passage where the scent of dark tsuyu (soup) drifts. The passage towards Nakamise still retains a Showa retro vibe, but it is in need of renovation due to low ceilings, frequent leaks, and drainage issues caused by faulty pipes. It may be time for the Asakusa underground mall to be rebuilt. My visit after 15-16 years was to enjoy the tempura soba (470 yen). The crispy tempura was delightful. However, I hope the owner will repair the ducts to send cool air before someone collapses from the heat. The cooking area, with a tatami mat about one and a half in size, feels like a sauna from the heat of the fryer and noodle boiling pot. The two ducts that are supposed to send cool air have become ineffective due to the outdoor unit on the ground floor almost useless. The 72-year-old owner has been standing in this harsh kitchen for nearly 20 years. During a lull in customers, he came out to chat with us, sharing stories of drunk customers falling down the stairs behind the counter, the ongoing struggle with air conditioning repairs, and other unique incidents that happen in this place. It was a new discovery to hear about these events, and I hope the hardworking owner can find some rest amidst the uncertainty of when he might collapse.

Tanuki soba (large serving) 620 yen The underground of Asakusa Station is very deep. In the midst of its Showa-era appearance, you will find this shop. With a rich broth, thin noodles, and the savory crunch of tempura bits, the flavors come together beautifully! It may be hard to find, but it's definitely worth trying.

I stopped by for the first time in a while on Saturday morning during my commute. It was already hot in the morning, so I ordered chilled noodles. At Bunnosuke, the amount of soba is satisfying. Initially, I was the only customer, but more customers came in later and it became full. I quickly finished my meal and left. Thank you for the meal.

In this season before the start of the rainy season, it's already hot. I decided to quickly grab a meal at a standing soba noodle shop before heading to the station. I ordered the "tanuki soba" with plenty of seaweed. I watched the back of the hardworking chef as I waited for my soba. Yeah, it's nice. I ate the soba quietly while sweating a little. Yeah, it's nice. Just right.

On Saturday afternoon, I went to a standing soba shop in the Asakusa underground mall! I ordered a soba set, but they said they were sold out of rice dishes, so I changed it to kakiage soba. The basic "standing soba shop vibe" was perfect and surprisingly delicious. The shop's atmosphere and surroundings were also lovely. Thank you for the meal!

The underground shopping street in Asakusa has a unique atmosphere. On a holiday night, feeling a bit heavy from lunch and wanting something light to eat, I chose this place. It's a standing soba shop that stays open relatively late. Located right after descending the stairs from the entrance of the intersection. The moment you go down the stairs, there is a unique atmosphere. It has a Showa-era charm that has crossed over into the Heisei era. The standing area is basically in the walkway. I chose the eggplant tempura. It was good that they weren't sold out even at a late hour. The taste is average for a standing soba shop.

I have been to the main store, Oyama store, and Bakuro-yokoyama store of the Bunshu chain, but the Asakusa store is quite high level. Perhaps the atmosphere of the Asakusa underground shopping street adds to it... I had delicious spring chrysanthemum tempura soba. Thank you for the meal. Best Stand-and-Eat Soba/Udon Ranking: 1. Asakusa Station on the subway. When you exit the ticket gate, there is a standing soba noodle shop called "Monju" which is highly praised among standing soba fans as the number one among chain stores. Purchase a food ticket at the vending machine. This store does not sell rice dishes in the morning. The prices for kakiage tempura, nasu tempura, kitsune, and tanuki are all the same at 470 yen. Tempura and tenkasu are priced the same. Upon closer inspection, grated radish, mountain vegetables, and seaweed are also priced at 470 yen. And croquettes are 510 yen. I wonder if the croquettes are specially made. Above the vending machine, there is a menu with English translations and pictures. It seems to cater to foreign tourists visiting Asakusa. Looking at the pictures, the "kitsune" and "tanuki" soba toppings include seaweed and fish cake. I purchased a 360 yen ticket for "kake soba/udon," placed it on the counter, and said "soba please," waiting for my order. They boil the homemade thin soba noodles upon receiving the order, so it takes a bit of time. It is said to be the original style of ordering fresh noodles and boiling them later. The boiled soba is rinsed in water and boiled again, taking extra care. It is a clear soba broth, not the dark broth commonly found in the Kanto region. The thin soba noodles look beautiful. The broth is made from bonito flakes. It has a scent of bonito dashi that stimulates the appetite. The hot soba broth burns the roof of the mouth. They use a good heat-conducting bowl, so your hands don't get hot. There are restaurants that use bowls that are too hot to hold, but it's good because you realize it's dangerous after drinking. The soba broth with a wonderful scent of bonito. The sweetness rushes in. Although not unpleasant, the sweetness of the broth raises questions because many people mention that it is not too sweet. If I have the chance to go to Asakusa again, I would like to eat it and confirm the sweetness. Despite the sweetness, it was a delicious bowl of soba and broth.

Today, I came to this restaurant to eat Fukuchan's yakisoba, but before that, I realized this place has a nice atmosphere. So, I decided to have some udon noodles here first before heading over for the yakisoba! Now, what should I order? Oh, spinach udon, that sounds delicious. I bought a ticket from the machine (520 yen) and in 3 minutes, it arrived! I started with the broth... tasty. Udon noodles are okay, a bit thin for my liking, but the egg with spinach was a pleasant surprise. The combination of the thin noodles, egg yolk, and broth was delicious! The spinach was also very good. The colors of green and yellow were vibrant. And of course, the nostalgic atmosphere of this place added to the experience. I'll write a review for the next yakisoba shop later, but for now, this restaurant gave me a feeling of wandering into the world of my favorite author, Asada Jiro's "Riding the Metro". Having read the book, watched the movie, and shed tears, I truly enjoyed the atmosphere of this lovely restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

I had always been curious about the standing soba shop near Asakusa Station, just 5 seconds away on foot, and finally decided to give it a try. As the title suggests... it was tough in many ways. The soba itself had thin noodles that were boiled to order. The broth was a bit thin and seemed blurry. It's best not to expect much in terms of customer service. I'm glad I went to see for myself. I don't think I'll be going back...

On the way from Asakusa Station on the Ginza Line to Matsuya Department Store, there is a shop at the entrance of what is said to be the oldest existing underground shopping street in Japan. I decided to stop by on my way back after drinking. Surprisingly, it was open until late, which made me happy. The broth was not too sweet and a bit rich, and the soba noodles were slightly thin. It was perfect for finishing off after drinking, and I enjoyed dipping the crispy tempura in the broth.

When you get off the Ginza Line, you'll smell a nice aroma. The underground shopping area may look a bit dirty and hard to navigate, but once you go, the noodles are delicious. So far, it's my number one standing soba ranking! Sometimes the taste is too salty, though.

I had lunch but it wasn't quite enough, so I stopped by here in Asakusa! I was going to get the tanuki soba, but since the eggplant tempura was the same price, I chose the eggplant tempura. The broth was a little thin, but it was okay as it was made with fresh soba noodles! Next time, I want to try the cold soba!

I had a meeting with a beverage maker whose symbol is a golden poop from the morning. Originally, I had planned to have lunch around noon or in the afternoon, but the designated time was 10:00. The meeting ended at 10:30, which was quite awkward. Most major lunch spots start at 11:00 or 11:30. I couldn't wander around for 30 minutes and then eat, and going back to the office afterwards would make me look like a slacker, so I reluctantly went to Bunshun. Luckily, Bunshun was open. It's still dark and has a unique smell in the underground shopping area. I wanted to order spinach soba or rock seaweed soba, but the buttons on the ticket machine were marked with an "X". I ended up ordering tanuki soba. The soba broth was not the typical Tokyo black style, but rather light. It had a strong bonito flavor and was delicious. The soba noodles were thin and delicious. The tempura bits soaked up the broth and became juicy, adding to the overall experience when slurping the soba. I think this standing soba chain stands out from the rest.

This is a standing soba shop in the underground shopping street of Asakusa Station. There are always customers coming in until late at night. It's convenient because they are open even at later hours, perfect for a quick meal after work. You buy a food ticket and place your order, and the food comes out quickly. I ordered cold soba this day, wanting something simple and refreshing. The portion was generous and cost-effective. While I wish the noodles were a bit firmer and had more bite, for a standing soba shop, the quality is definitely high (not to be compared to regular soba restaurants). It's great that you can eat for less than a coin and get a large portion. Despite the small counter, it's female-friendly and you can see quite a few women dining there.
