There is a kushikatsu restaurant on Shijo Street. I ordered the kushikatsu omakase for 110-220 yen per skewer. The skewers come out one by one and you can stop whenever you want. You can also order individual items. I added dashimaki for 400 yen and stopped at shrimp, beef (misuji), Kamo eggplant, avocado, red snapper, pork, onion, quail egg, beef tendon, and wiener. It's affordable and delicious.

Located on Shijo Street, right in the middle of Kyoto, this place is a small building on the second floor. It's a true tempura skewer restaurant! We had the chef's choice course with beer and then switched to Japanese sake. The skewers were coated in a fine batter and were delicious. The skewers of long green peppers and shumai were amazing!

A few minutes' walk from Shijo Station, there is a big sign. We made a reservation for the 3,200 yen course. It seemed to be a popular place as the restaurant was already full when we arrived. The skewers were all delicious. I particularly liked the unusual yuba dish! They served the dishes at a good pace, and we were quite satisfied. I think even men would be satisfied with the portion size.

I always have trouble deciding on where to have dinner in Kyoto. However, I think kushiage is a good option as it is enjoyable for kids and delicious for adults. The atmosphere of this restaurant is more like an adult izakaya, snack bar, or bar, so it may be a bit overwhelming with lots of children. The food was very delicious! I was satisfied with everything, but the only downside was that the final bill was a bit higher than expected, about 2,000 yen more. That was the only disappointing point. The price cannot be helped, but I have deducted points for value for money. Additionally, the restaurant is only accessible by stairs due to the building's structure, so it may be difficult for those with strollers, pregnant women, or elderly individuals. Thank you for the meal, I would like to visit again! Thank you for the meal!

I used it on a trip to Kyoto. There are many tempura restaurants in Kyoto, although not as many as in Osaka. I ordered the Kyoto Color Set Arashiyama Course for 3,280 yen. I thought 15 skewers would be a lot, but they were small and the batter was light, so I could eat them easily. I also ordered 2-3 more skewers. It's nice that they bring them one by one instead of all at once. Good value for money.

I went to the restaurant without a reservation as I wasn't sure about my plans for the day. Luckily, there was only one group dining that day, so I could choose between sitting at the counter or in a tatami room. The tempura was delicious, especially the Kamo eggplant. The appetizers were tasty, but the tofu skin wasn't fresh, which was disappointing. Since the restaurant is run by just two people, there was a bit of a wait for the food. Initially, I was anxious because I was hungry, but as I settled into eating and drinking, the wait didn't bother me as much. The bill was surprisingly affordable, as I had expected tempura to be more expensive. I was also surprised by the abundance of tempura restaurants in Kyoto and now I want to try more of them.

I suddenly had a craving for kushikatsu, so I made a reservation. There were photos of actors like Shun Oguri dining here, which piqued my interest. Next to them were photos of adorable and noble-looking cats. I opted for the omakase option and decided to stop eating when I was full. Since I was seated at the counter, they timed the dishes perfectly based on my eating pace. I enjoyed a variety of items such as shrimp, quail eggs, shishito peppers, shiitake mushrooms, konjac, nama-fu (wheat gluten), quail, beef tongue, conger eel, salmon, avocado, asparagus, red sea bream, taro, and more. I ate and drank quite a bit, and since it only cost me 5000 yen per person, I thought it was a good value. Kindness towards those with sensitive palates: ★ ★ ★ The kushikatsu was hot when freshly fried, but it cooled down quickly enough to eat.

This time, our family of three reserved seats at the counter. We arrived at 5:30. We enjoyed the omakase course for a while, and an hour later the restaurant was full. The standout dishes from the omakase course were the half-cooked, tender and juicy sweetfish wrapped in shiso, the very tender beef tongue, and the fried avocado that my daughter loved. My wife's favorite was the gingko nuts. We finished with rice balls and red miso soup. The hot and freshly fried tempura skewers are highly recommended.

This is a classy and delicious kushikatsu restaurant. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building and has a cozy hidden gem atmosphere. I thought it would be nice to become a regular at a place like this. The kushikatsu is small and has a finely textured coating. It is a high-quality and elegant dish. I tried ordering individual pieces this time, but taking the time to enjoy a course of kushikatsu might also be a good idea. I would definitely consider revisiting this place. Additional note: Having mayonnaise on the table is very helpful.

Reasonably priced and fairly delicious kushikatsu! I went with an older person, so the steep stairs were tough. They served Kyoto-style dishes like nama-fu dengaku. The 10-piece course was a bit lacking, so we added beef and shrimp. It faces Shijo Street, so the sign was easy to spot. Good accessibility.

It felt like they were using different oils for frying based on the ingredients. The crispiness made it feel like you could eat as much as you want.

I haven't written a review yet, but... for lunch, I had Western food at Mikuni in Shinbashi and then returned to the hotel to rest. I was thinking of skipping dinner, but since I'm in Kyoto and starting to get a little hungry, I decided to call Kushi-bun for a reservation and luckily got 2 seats at the counter. We started with light appetizers like cabbage, pickled radish in miso, yuba, and pickles. The pickled radish in miso was really good, providing a mild flavor to complement the radish. The yuba was also delicious. For the kushi-katsu, we had a few selections: conger eel, shishito pepper, sweetfish with shiso, and quail egg. The kushi-katsu was light and tasty. We enjoyed beer and highballs as our drinks!

On the last night of my trip to Kyoto, I decided to have Osaka-style cuisine in Kyoto since I wasn't going to Osaka the next day. I ordered my skewers a la carte, starting from just one. Unlike Osaka's skewers, the sauce options here included medium-thick sauce, soy sauce, ponzu, salt, sansho pepper, and mayo, allowing you to customize to your liking. Everything was delicious, but personally, I prefer skewers without the medium-thick sauce. Still, I left satisfied. The waitress was efficient and pleasant, and her service added to the enjoyable dining experience.

I had an early dinner in Gion so that I could see the evening floats later on. I went to "Arashiyama Kushi Mon" that I had heard about. It was hot, so I started with a beer. They offer a course where you can leave the selection to them, but I chose my own items. The menu seemed pretty standard with common ingredients. It wasn't anything fancy, but I found the ginger skewer interesting and different. It was just okay in terms of taste and price. Thank you for the meal.
