JR Ikebukuro Station East Exit is home to the Seibu Department Store Ikebukuro Main Store, a large-scale department store. Located on the B1F is the Seibu Food Hall (Sweets & Gifts), where you can find TOKYO Tulip Rose Seibu Ikebukuro Store, a Western confectionery shop. The mastermind behind these sweets is Rihito Kanai, who studied confectionery making at the Tokyo Confectionery School and trained at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo and in Paris. One of his signature creations, the Tulip Rose, features delicate langues de chat cookie craftsmanship forming a tulip shape with a rose made of melty chocolate cream blooming inside. To put it simply, it's like using Yoku Moku's Cigare cookies to create the outer tulip part, filling it with pie filling, then shaping the chocolate cream into a rose. The focus on appearance and visual appeal is evident. The shop is operated by Grapestone Inc., which also manages Sugar Butter no Ki, Nenrin-ya, Kamakura Gorohonten, Tokyo Banana World, Gin no Budou, Butter States, PAQ and MOG, Jaga Boulder, Kissa-ten ni Koishite., Tulip Rose, Berryl Be Cut, NUT STOCK Sanemori, Captain Sweets Burger, Cresson Riverside Story Karuizawa, and other brands. Visiting around 1 pm on a weekday, there was a line of about 5 people. Rumor has it that on holidays, the line can get much longer. A sign reads "Due to popular demand, up to 30 boxes per person," so there seems to be no need to worry about quantity. The Tulip Rose box containing 6 pieces costs 1,242 yen, with 2 pieces each of Berry, Passion Mango, and Caramel Nuts, priced at 207 yen each. Upon opening at home, each piece is individually wrapped in a transparent plastic cup to prevent deformation. The tulip shape on the outside is not layered petals but rather made by folding a single piece of dough, which is interesting. The taste is like Cigare. The rose-shaped cream may melt if the temperature is too high, so caution is advised when carrying them around. On this day, with temperatures around 30°C, they were fine. However, leaving them in a car during the day would be disastrous. The Mango flavor was too sour, but the Caramel had a good balance.
