I arrived at the restaurant a little before 12 o'clock on a weekday. I had never tried Hungarian cuisine before and I was finally able to go for lunch! The location is in an area called Oku-Harajuku, a bit hard to find, but a friend recommended it as their second visit, so they guided me and we finally found it. It's a very quiet and calm atmosphere in a corner of Harajuku, which is hard to believe. The restaurant is located underground, with the restaurant space on the left side as you go down the stairs, and the space selling Hungarian pottery and accessories on the right side. The very friendly owner guided us. There are 8 seats at the counter, which is spacious, with the kitchen at the back, allowing for a relaxed seating arrangement where you can also converse with the chef. There are two 4-person tables and two 2-person tables, all furnished with Hungarian furniture. The decor is reminiscent of European antique style. The tables are large and luxurious, with clean white tablecloths. There is a chandelier and downlights for lighting. Despite being underground, the restaurant is well-lit with natural light coming in through the dry area. The walls are adorned with Hungarian paintings and photographs, creating a Hungarian-themed interior with rich, calming colors. We were the only customers at the time, so we took our time listening to the explanations and choosing our dishes. I learned that Hungarian cuisine is characterized by the use of paprika in all dishes, which is healthy and nice. We ordered the lunch menu, specifically the "Main Lunch ¥1,000" which comes with salad and tea. I changed the main dish to "Chicken Paprika". The salad was served first, with lettuce and of course, paprika. It was a refreshing and delicious Caesar salad with Parmigiano. The main dish, "Chicken Paprika", had a vibrant paprika sauce that was visually appealing. The chicken itself had little seasoning, allowing the colorful paprika sauce to shine. It was a unique and delicious flavor that I had never experienced before. The side dish, "Galuska", was a rare find - small round dumplings that resembled gnocchi or suet noodles. It was light and refreshing, and complemented the sauce well. It was a strange eating experience but delicious. I would love to try it again. The dishes ordered by my acquaintances included the "Main Lunch ¥1,000" with the main dish being "Chicken Ragout", a mushroom and chicken stew with a different paprika flavor. It was also delicious. Another person ordered the complete set, "B Lunch ¥2,000", which included salad, tea, bread, soup, main dish, and dessert. They upgraded the soup to the traditional "Goulash Soup +¥100", which was a hearty soup with paprika, carrots, potatoes, and chunks of beef. It was like a rich minestrone, with only paprika as the base flavor. The main dish was "Szekelykaposta", a pork and sauerkraut stew with a rich paprika flavor. It was the most flavorful dish. I added dessert for ¥500, a classic chocolate dessert that was light and delicious. The set came with a tasty herbal tea. Since I had never been to another Hungarian restaurant, I can't compare, but everything was surprising and delicious.
