Goulash is a soup with a gentle flavor. It is a representative dish of Hungary, but it is widely enjoyed as a home-cooked meal in Central Europe, including Germany and the Czech Republic. It contains diced beef, carrots, and potatoes, seasoned with paprika powder, giving it a warm and simple taste. I wanted to try Goulash because of the manga "SPY x FAMILY." The character Yor, who plays the role of a wife, ends up making her mother's "Southern Stew" after cooking practice. This dish is based on Goulash, so I wanted to try it. After researching online, I found a Hungarian cuisine specialty restaurant near Meiji Shrine that offers a lunch set including Goulash. I decided to challenge myself. However, when I arrived after a 15-minute walk from Harajuku dragging a heavy bag, the restaurant was closed, even though it was not a regular holiday. Seeing my big bag, the owner took pity on me and decided to prepare lunch for me. Due to the pandemic, the restaurant only operates when there are reservations, and luckily, they had a group reservation for dinner the next day, so the chef was there to accommodate me. I was extremely grateful for their kindness. After a small salad, the Goulash I was looking for appeared. It was a small cup of soup as part of a mini-course of Hungarian-style stuffed cabbage. Despite being very hot, I couldn't stop eating the gentle and profound flavor that warmed my heart. It was delicious and satisfying. The main dish, Hungarian-style stuffed cabbage, was also soaked in a soup flavored with paprika powder. The taste was so intense, with meat and rice giving it richness, but the rice was not visible. Nevertheless, it was an excellent dish that made me want to eat it again. The restaurant originally dealt with high-end Hungarian pottery and was asked by the Hungarian Embassy in Japan to promote Hungarian cuisine. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the restaurant managed to survive and is now seeing a glimmer of hope. I hope that more and more people will get to know the gentle flavor of this hearty Goulash soup. I recommend making a reservation and trying it for yourself.

The lunch course (3,500 yen) was delicious, with a variety of appetizers including wine jelly, chicken liver mousse, two types of pork terrine (one with paprika powder and one with sage), cottage cheese with paprika powder dip, marinated cabbage, and homemade bread. The goulash was rich and hearty, while the Székelytárpos pork and sauerkraut stew was very tasty. For dessert, the Somlói Galuska, a custard cake with chocolate sauce, was just the right amount of sweetness and delicious.

Visited "Azufinom" in Sendagaya for lunch at a Hungarian restaurant for the first time. The restaurant is located on the basement floor and has a calm atmosphere with a white color scheme. I chose the 3,000 yen course for the day. Started with a ginger ale as a toast drink and cabbage marinated. The cabbage marinated had a nice acidity and tasted very fresh. Next was the soup, a Hungarian borscht made with paprika, beef, and vegetables. It had a different flavor compared to the Russian borscht made with beets. For the main course, it was pork and sauerkraut stew, with a hint of tomato flavor and sauerkraut commonly found in German cuisine. It was delicious, especially when eaten with bread. Finished with milk tea and a chocolate mousse dessert. The dessert had a nice sweetness, and overall, I enjoyed the luxurious Hungarian lunch course. Azufinom is a great place for special occasions, and I will definitely be returning.

Visit date: January 8, 2022 (Saturday) I went with two friends from junior high school! Before going to Meiji Shrine for the New Year's visit, we were looking for a restaurant online for lunch and found this place where we could enjoy rare Hungarian cuisine. The access from the station is a little over 10 minutes' walk from Harajuku Station. The restaurant is located on the basement floor down the stairs. We arranged to meet at the restaurant at 12:30, but there were already two groups of customers seated at the table. The two of us who arrived later were guided to the counter seats. From the menu, we ordered Hungarian-style stuffed cabbage rolls for ¥1800. It came with bread, salad, and soup as part of the lunch set. The salad was full of ingredients and had a sweet and sour taste, making it easy to eat. We had a soup called Goulash soup, which is a red soup. Goulash means "herdsman" and the soup contained beef. It was red like borscht but had a richer and chunkier texture due to the beef and vegetables. Hungarian cuisine apparently uses paprika in almost everything, which is why the Goulash soup is also red. Indeed, there were paprika slices in the salad as well. (By the way, the red color of borscht comes from beets. I learned this from my friends who came with me.) The main stuffed cabbage rolls had a slightly strong spice that I'm not a fan of, but the cabbage rolls themselves were well stewed and delicious. The sour cream cheese (probably) was refreshing and I liked it. Hungarian stuffed cabbage rolls apparently contain rice in the filling. The staff kindly explained the dishes when they were served, which was very helpful. It's easier to remember when you eat something unfamiliar while understanding what it is through explanations rather than eating something you don't understand. The interior of the restaurant was very stylish. This restaurant where you can experience foreign cuisine through food is wonderful. I would love to visit again. This time, I ate until I was full with the main dish, but next time I would like to try the dessert as well.

I visited for lunch. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite upscale and lovely. They offer a high-end prefixed course menu. It seems the chef is Hungarian. The paprika soup lacked depth in flavor and may not be suited for Japanese palates. The taste is unique and not commonly found in Japanese eateries, probably authentic Hungarian flavors. Honestly, I did not find it delicious. The owner? proudly talks about Hungary, which is interesting and informative, but it felt a bit excessive. I wish I could have enjoyed the meal in a quieter setting. If you are interested in Hungary, it may be worth a visit.

It was located about a 12-minute walk from Gaienmae Station, and it was easy to overlook. Once you entered underground, you found yourself in Hungary, with beautiful glassware, porcelain, and accessories on display and for sale. It has a close relationship with the embassy. That day, it was just the two of us, enjoying the luxurious experience of having the Hungarian hideaway all to ourselves. I couldn't help but hope for the taste to match what I had in Hungary, but that was being greedy. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful time and experience.

I visited the restaurant for lunch on the weekend, about a 15-minute walk from Harajuku Station. I ordered a dish that was a mix of sauerkraut and cabbage, similar to minestrone but not exactly. It was delicious. The meal came with salad, bread, and black tea, which was a good deal.

I tried Hungarian cuisine for the first time and the knowledgeable madam explained various things about the wine and ingredients. The dishes are not focused on butter, acidity, or umami, but rather on a comforting deliciousness. The Hungarian wine provided was well-balanced with tannins and fruitiness. The overall impression of the dishes, including the dessert, was relatively mild, but I was told that they employ a top Hungarian chef at the request of the Hungarian Embassy to provide authentic Hungarian cuisine. It was explained to me that this is true Hungarian cuisine. I think it's a taste that Japanese people will find familiar. Thank you for the meal.

Walking around the world to eat different cuisines - Hungary edition Located in a hidden place, so I got a little lost before finding the restaurant. When I descended the stairs, a high-class restaurant appeared. The interior of the restaurant was beautifully decorated (I forgot to take photos because it was too beautiful, haha). The prices were a bit high, but you could feel the owner's love for Hungary. Hungary was a powerful country long ago. I was surprised by the variety of wines, especially the three types of noble rot wines that were available - it was amazing! Of course, the food was incredibly delicious. I want to keep coming back for the noble rot wines (haha). The dishes were mainly Hungarian style, with a must-try being the paprika soup - a national treasure with lots of vegetables that really fill you up! The Hungarian-style stuffed cabbage rolls were also delicious, with rice rolled in cabbage and simmered in a flavorful soup. I never thought of that combination, but it was definitely tasty! Everything was carefully prepared, and the atmosphere of the restaurant, along with the owner's hospitality, made it a great place to spend time.

This was my first time trying Hungarian cuisine. All the dishes were made with paprika sauce, so I almost mistakenly thought that Hungarian cuisine is all about paprika dishes. They were all very delicious, but there was quite a bias in the taste. However, the Mangalitsa pork, which is considered a national treasure in Hungary, was exquisite! It was smooth, had a perfect richness, and the oiliness was not overwhelming at all. The simple seasoning was also great. The waitress (or maybe the owner?) seemed to really love Hungary and shared a lot of information with us. It's very nice to hear such stories when trying out foreign cuisine. Another unexpected delight was that the wine was really delicious. I only had white wine, but they were all lovely in terms of aroma and taste. I would like to try other dishes, so I would love to visit again.

I visited for lunch on a Saturday for a preview before using it for entertainment next week. It was a visit from quite some time ago (July 2018), but I feel like going back, so I uploaded it as a memorandum. Lunch set 1600 yen I ordered Goulash soup and Sekely cabbage pasta. It was my first time trying Hungarian cuisine. The owner of the restaurant kindly explained the dishes. Goulash soup is a soup for appetizers. It is a soup similar to minestrone made with paprika. It has a gentle and mild taste. Sekely cabbage pasta is the main dish. It is a stewed dish with pork and cabbage as the base, with a deep flavor using paprika. It is a comforting meal. The softness (meal and atmosphere) that makes you feel like you are invited to a Hungarian home is very pleasant. Thank you for the meal.

I casually stopped by a Hungarian restaurant that had high ratings on Tabelog. I thought I wouldn't be able to get a table, but it was just after opening so I could get in without any other customers. After that, customers kept coming in one after another, so it seemed like I was just lucky. I had no idea what Hungarian cuisine would be like, and I was a bit hesitant to order thinking it might be something like German sauerkraut and difficult to eat. But I was surprised! It was delicious! The staff mentioned that Hungary is a country of gourmet food. When traveling abroad, you might start craving Japanese food, but in Hungary, you could eat their food every day without any problem. I can understand that feeling! (Even though I haven't traveled abroad!) They also imported wine from Hungary and the furniture and tableware were imported as well, making it a unique experience that you wouldn't find outside of Tokyo. It was really delicious, so I definitely want to go back and try it for dinner next time.

I attended a university alumni reunion and had the 6,000 yen course, which included Hungarian cuisine. It was very helpful to have explanations about Hungarian dishes. The wine was also Hungarian and I had it by the glass, it was easy to drink.

Hungarian cuisine seems to be similar to Czech cuisine, so I decided to try it out! I walked from Meiji-jingumae Station, which felt far and hot. Inside the restaurant, a group of customers were having lunch while a lady was talking to them about Hungarian culture. I received an explanation of the menu from a beautiful staff member in slightly hesitant Japanese. I finally decided on the Chicken Paprikash with Hungarian-style pasta and the Lunch Pasta. The salad was tasty with sauerkraut, cucumber, and paprika. The Chicken Paprikash was delicious, with sliced chicken in a round shape and a smooth sauce. The pasta was fluffy and flavorful, and the Lunch Pasta was tomato-based with plenty of powdered cheese and pork. I enjoyed it with a beer. After the meal, they served tea because some customers are in a hurry during lunchtime. I walked back to Kitasando Station, which felt closer. Overall, I had a great experience and would love to listen to some Hungarian music while enjoying Hungarian cuisine next time.

[First Visit] After my regular dental check-up, I went for lunch. As I walked towards Harajuku, the number of people was incredible. It was filled with young people, which made me feel conscious of my age. After passing through the residential area, I finally arrived. Going downstairs and entering the restaurant, I felt the atmosphere. It was elegant and had a sense of luxury. The daily lunch starts from ¥900. I chose the ¥1500 set which included Goulash soup for an additional ¥100, salad, soup, bread, main dish, and tea. I chose the Seike Kaiposta for the main dish. The salad at the beginning had a crunchy cabbage with a gentle sourness resembling sauerkraut, it was delicious and I wanted more. The Goulash soup, similar to a minestrone using paprika, was a gentle soup without acidity, very kind to the body. The main dish Seike Kaiposta, a stew of pork and cabbage with a lot of paprika and cream, had an orange color. The umami and flavor remained consistent until the end, it was enjoyable. The bread was slightly firm with a unique texture, not chewy but rather crumbly, melting in the mouth quickly. Lastly, I had tea. The dishes were probably typical Hungarian home-cooked meals. The chef refined and elevated them into this restaurant's offerings. The Seike Kaiposta I had in Yokohama many years ago was a rough and rustic home-cooked meal, but delicious. Eating it after a long time, I remembered the taste from back then. Despite the dishes' simple appearance, the plates had a strong impact with vivid colors and a glossy finish. They were so beautiful that I wanted to have them. It was a wonderful lunch. Thank you for the meal. Note: Since they use very little oil, I felt really healthy after eating! I realized how much fat I usually consume. My tired stomach is really happy.

Located in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. A Hungarian restaurant just a 10-minute walk from JR Harajuku Station and Tokyo Metro Meiji-Jingumae Station. It's a bit hidden on a side street, and the restaurant is underground. There is a counter inside, making it easy for solo diners. The atmosphere is like being in a different world, with classical music playing, a piano, and lovely interior. They occasionally hold cultural events as well. For lunch, they offer a 1,000 yen set which includes salad, main dish, rice, and a drink. The salad featured white paprika from Yamagata Prefecture, which was a delightful surprise. I tried the pork loin sauté Temesvar style as the main dish, and even though I don't usually like green beans, the green beans simmered in paprika sauce were so delicious that I wanted seconds. The menu seems to have changed, so I look forward to visiting again soon.

I arrived at the restaurant a little before 12 o'clock on a weekday. I had never tried Hungarian cuisine before and I was finally able to go for lunch! The location is in an area called Oku-Harajuku, a bit hard to find, but a friend recommended it as their second visit, so they guided me and we finally found it. It's a very quiet and calm atmosphere in a corner of Harajuku, which is hard to believe. The restaurant is located underground, with the restaurant space on the left side as you go down the stairs, and the space selling Hungarian pottery and accessories on the right side. The very friendly owner guided us. There are 8 seats at the counter, which is spacious, with the kitchen at the back, allowing for a relaxed seating arrangement where you can also converse with the chef. There are two 4-person tables and two 2-person tables, all furnished with Hungarian furniture. The decor is reminiscent of European antique style. The tables are large and luxurious, with clean white tablecloths. There is a chandelier and downlights for lighting. Despite being underground, the restaurant is well-lit with natural light coming in through the dry area. The walls are adorned with Hungarian paintings and photographs, creating a Hungarian-themed interior with rich, calming colors. We were the only customers at the time, so we took our time listening to the explanations and choosing our dishes. I learned that Hungarian cuisine is characterized by the use of paprika in all dishes, which is healthy and nice. We ordered the lunch menu, specifically the "Main Lunch ¥1,000" which comes with salad and tea. I changed the main dish to "Chicken Paprika". The salad was served first, with lettuce and of course, paprika. It was a refreshing and delicious Caesar salad with Parmigiano. The main dish, "Chicken Paprika", had a vibrant paprika sauce that was visually appealing. The chicken itself had little seasoning, allowing the colorful paprika sauce to shine. It was a unique and delicious flavor that I had never experienced before. The side dish, "Galuska", was a rare find - small round dumplings that resembled gnocchi or suet noodles. It was light and refreshing, and complemented the sauce well. It was a strange eating experience but delicious. I would love to try it again. The dishes ordered by my acquaintances included the "Main Lunch ¥1,000" with the main dish being "Chicken Ragout", a mushroom and chicken stew with a different paprika flavor. It was also delicious. Another person ordered the complete set, "B Lunch ¥2,000", which included salad, tea, bread, soup, main dish, and dessert. They upgraded the soup to the traditional "Goulash Soup +¥100", which was a hearty soup with paprika, carrots, potatoes, and chunks of beef. It was like a rich minestrone, with only paprika as the base flavor. The main dish was "Szekelykaposta", a pork and sauerkraut stew with a rich paprika flavor. It was the most flavorful dish. I added dessert for ¥500, a classic chocolate dessert that was light and delicious. The set came with a tasty herbal tea. Since I had never been to another Hungarian restaurant, I can't compare, but everything was surprising and delicious.
