Yesterday (Friday, November 18, 2022), I had breakfast at "Takase Ikebukuro Main Store" in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo. This time, I used the second-floor cafe for breakfast. During my previous stay in Tokyo, I often had dinner at the restaurant on the upper floor. Ikebukuro is like a second home to me, and when I lived in Shakujii Park in Nerima-ku during my student days, I naturally started using Ikebukuro Station, and I frequently passed by Takase on the east side of the station. Many people who use Ikebukuro Station East Exit probably walk past this store. The convenient location may be one of the important factors for the long-standing success of this store. Takase was established in 1920, which was the 9th year of the Taisho era in the Japanese calendar. The fact that this store has been operating in the heart of Ikebukuro through the Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and now Reiwa eras is quite remarkable. I arrived at the store around 10:00 am. Since I found the breakfast at the hotel to be a bit expensive, I decided to visit Takase. When I arrived at 10:07, all the window seats were taken. It had been a while since I visited this store, and I would have preferred a window seat, but it couldn't be helped. The morning set menu is available from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. I ordered the "C Set" (Pizza toast, salad, boiled egg, with a price of 700 yen) and chose a hot coffee as my drink. For more details on the menu, please refer to the images. The cafe was being managed by an elderly lady who was responsible for serving, bussing, and cashiering. It was quite busy as more customers continued to come in. My "C Set" arrived 12 minutes after ordering. It was a simple breakfast with a typical pizza toast. The boiled egg was to my liking, not too soft. The salad dressing was French dressing, which I also enjoyed. The acidity of the French dressing is distinctive and appealing. The hot coffee came with milk in a stainless steel milk pitcher, which was a nice touch. Overall, I had a delicious breakfast at Takase after a long time. In respect of its establishment in 1920, I give Takase a perfect score of 5.0 on "Tabelog." It was a delightful meal.

Located in front of Ikebukuro East Exit Station, Takase Main Store on the 3rd floor is a long-established Western-style restaurant founded in the Taisho era. The atmosphere of the restaurant is retro and charming. The interior is a bit small, but the service from the staff is excellent. The clientele is mostly elderly. The soup, salad, hamburger, and shrimp fry were all delicious, with a higher quality than your average Western-style restaurant. I look forward to trying the beef stew and omelette rice next time. I have become a repeat customer.

I went shopping in Ikebukuro and decided to try the Takase an-doughnuts that were popular among my acquaintances. They are sold in the bread and pastry section on the first floor, so they may be a popular item. The doughnuts are generously coated with sugar, but the amount of red bean paste inside is modest. They are light in terms of filling. Personally, I prefer less sugar and more red bean paste. They come in a pack of 5 for 400 yen, making them a great choice for souvenirs.

The shops in the underground area of Ikebukuro Station are all crowded and cramped, so I headed to the second floor of Takase. I ordered a cake set with a Savarin. The Savarin had a fluffy dough with plenty of cream. It had a scent like apples, no, maybe this is apricot? The dough was soaked with an abundance of rum, making it excellent.

I revisited the restaurant on the weekend with my friend as everywhere else was crowded. Although there were already about 6 groups waiting in line, the staff were taking orders quickly. I ordered the omurice, which had been unavailable last time due to a shortage of eggs, and my friend ordered the hamburger that I had recommended. We waited for about 20 minutes, and once we were seated, the salad and cutlery were already set up as ordered. Within 3 minutes, our dishes arrived. The service had definitely sped up since my last visit. The restaurant operates on a 60-minute time limit, but with the food coming so quickly, it wasn't a problem. The taste wasn't incredibly delicious, but it was familiar and comforting. I saw elderly people enjoying huge portions of pilaf and mixed fry, and a slightly overweight couple ordering extra rice, which caught the attention of other customers. It was a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. People come here for the comforting taste. Thank you for the meal.

I had passed by the store front many times in August 2023, but the Demi sauce omurice had left a lasting impression on me, so I decided to visit the restaurant that was not listed in my search. It was very crowded during lunchtime, but I managed to find a seat. I checked the menu and ordered the omurice with ketchup sauce and a drink set with iced coffee. The restaurant had a nostalgic feel, with the staff in traditional Western-style uniforms, bringing back memories of my childhood. In about 10 minutes, the omurice, salad, and iced coffee arrived. The portion was generous, with plenty of ketchup sauce that was rich and satisfying. The egg was thick and had a hint of buttery aroma. The rice was ketchup-flavored and slightly milder in taste but piping hot. I blew on each spoonful to cool it down. The dish also included mushrooms, green peppers, and ham. The ketchup was rich and sweet, perfect for relieving fatigue. The combination of generous portion, piping hot temperature, and rich ketchup flavor made the omurice very enjoyable. I savored the bitterness of the iced coffee and finished the meal. Thick egg, buttery aroma Rice, ketchup-flavored Ketchup, rich and sweet Ingredients: ham, green peppers, mushrooms Omurice: 1100 yen Drink set: 300 yen Thank you for the meal.

I visited for the first time! In one word, it's a cafe full of Showa era vibes! I ordered something called French pilaf. It was like a dish filled with a boy's desires and the taste was good. My friend ordered omurice, which also looked delicious. The person next to us ordered a hamburger, which looked big and tasty too. I look forward to coming back again. Thank you for the meal.

On a day when I went shopping in Ikebukuro on my day off, I had breakfast at "Takase" in front of Ikebukuro Station. The western confectionery shop "Takase" in front of Ikebukuro Station East Exit has a cafe and restaurant, and on the second floor cafe, they offer a morning service. When you go up the stairs to the second floor, you will see a showcase of nostalgic food samples. From parfaits and shaved ice to sweet red bean soup and cakes... it's like a cafeteria where you can choose your favorite. As soon as you enter the store, you will see the cakes in the showcase. The cakes sold on the first floor can be enjoyed in the cafe on the second floor. I visited on a Sunday morning around 10 o'clock. Despite the early hour, the store was almost full. Customers of all ages, including families, were there, creating a lively atmosphere. The atmosphere inside the store is nostalgic, with a huge air conditioner reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s. Morning set menus are available between 9:00 and 11:00 on weekdays and weekends. There are four types of sets: B, C, D sets, and a morning cake set. There used to be five menu options. In addition, there are various cake sets, shaved ice, and parfaits. Although cakes in the morning were tempting, my wife ordered the B set with toast (650 yen) and I ordered the D set with a hot dog (720 yen). First, coffee, salad, boiled egg, and "koshi-an" that comes with the B set were served. I heard it was a service, so I requested it. With this, you can make a sweet red bean paste toast. The salad had tomatoes and lettuce with French dressing. Soon, the toast was also served. The toast was about 6 slices thick and beautifully toasted to a golden brown. The standard portion is one and a half slices of bread (3 pieces), with strawberry jam and butter. The toast was perfectly toasted, crispy on the outside, and moist and fluffy inside, very delicious. You can enjoy it with just butter or add sweet red bean paste for extra sweetness. My husband's hot dog that he ordered was also served. A simple combination of lettuce, cucumber, sausage in a hot dog bun, you can also request ketchup or mustard, but we had it without any sauce. The hot dog with delicious bread had a satisfying taste, especially when eaten with the boiled egg. My wife found the bread so delicious that she couldn't resist asking for seconds. This morning set includes free refills of coffee, and the B set comes with all-you-can-eat toast, which is a nice bonus. We added one more serving (2 slices) of toast, had coffee refills until 11 o'clock, and leisurely enjoyed our morning. Having breakfast in a traditional cafe like this is special, and the bread, whether it's white bread or hot dog buns, is delicious. The toasting technique makes it even more delicious, far better than breakfast at home. We chatted about how it would be nice to have breakfast at Takase when we have errands in Ikebukuro, and headed home. Definitely a place we will visit again.

I came for lunch because I had been curious for a while. It's a local Western-style restaurant. I love the retro atmosphere and the sense of trust that comes from running the shop in this area for a long time. I ordered the limited quantity Japanese-style grated hamburger and salmon fry for 980 yen. The crispy salmon fry with tartar sauce was delicious. The Japanese-style grated hamburger had a flavor that Japanese people would enjoy, not the trendy juicy overflowing hamburger, but a solid traditional one. The rice was cooked just the way I like it, and the iced tea was perfect after the meal. I hope that this kind of restaurant will continue to thrive in this area. Please keep providing delicious and affordable meals in the future.

I have been to the 9F cafe a few times, but this time I tried their daily lunch set for the first time on the restaurant floor. It consisted of chicken steak, fried white fish, and a generous serving of salad, a classic Western meal. The flavors were simple but not greasy, providing a comforting lunch experience. Considering the current situation, the price of 950 yen (including tax) at this location is very reasonable. It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Ikebukuro East Exit and enjoy a leisurely meal.

I had visited cafes before, but this was my first time at a restaurant. It was during summer vacation, so by the time we left, there was a line forming, but we were lucky to get in within a few minutes. The place had a retro atmosphere, like an old-fashioned Western-style eatery, and you could see Ikebukuro Station from the window. There were so many menu options, but I decided to go with the daily special. That day, it was white fish fry and chicken in tomato sauce. It came with salad, macaroni salad, rice, and a drink for only 950 yen, which was a great deal. The crispy fry and tangy tomato sauce on the chicken were delicious, and the portion size was just right. I'm looking forward to trying the hamburger with a sunny-side-up egg next time.

Located a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station, Takase Ikebukuro Main Store is a long-established Western confectionery shop founded in 1954. The store has a classical atmosphere, with a wide variety of cakes and baked goods on display. Popular items at Takase Ikebukuro Main Store include their shortcake, Mont Blanc, and éclair. The shortcake features a fluffy sponge cake with plenty of fresh cream. The Mont Blanc has a rich chestnut cream filling that is fragrant and delicious. The éclair has a crispy pastry shell and a not-too-sweet chocolate cream filling that is delightful. The cakes at Takase Ikebukuro Main Store are not only visually appealing but also delicious in taste. Furthermore, the staff provides attentive customer service, allowing customers to leisurely enjoy their cakes. If you are looking to buy cakes in Ikebukuro, Takase Ikebukuro Main Store is a highly recommended shop. Takase @ Ikebukuro August 2023, second Saturday, 3 pm. Visited for a coffee break. First, entered from the Green Boulevard side and bought some bread. The variety of cakes and breads is abundant, and there are many popular original products unique to this long-established store founded in 1920. Then, went around to the back for a coffee break. Based on the sign at the entrance, the decision was made quickly. Recommended: Coffee Float, 430 yen. "A little luxurious - why not try it with ice!?" A classic taste at this price is a delight. The coffee itself is delicious, so enjoying it as is without ice is also a great option. The ice cream topping is nostalgic, a taste that seems to have been passed down through the ages. A modest ice cream that doesn't interfere with the fragrant coffee. It's a masterpiece. Many elderly people frequent this "cafe", but it's also popular with young couples and solo female customers. Cooling off and savoring the nostalgic summer flavor. Next time, I want to try the "Showa-style Western food" at the restaurant. Will come again.

I suddenly felt like eating a hearty meat dish in Ikebukuro and was wondering what to order when I remembered a hamburger special that was on TV in the past. Although this shop was not ranked number one on the show, based on the atmosphere of the restaurant and the type of hamburger, this was the place I wanted to visit the most. The taste was outstanding. It wasn't the trendy 100% ground beef patty, but the strong flavor that didn't lose to the demiglace sauce was amazing.

I visited the restaurant for breakfast on a weekday morning. I arrived just in time for the morning hours, and there were still customers coming in for the morning set. I ordered the pancake morning set. The pancakes were soft and fluffy, with a chewy texture. There were two pancakes, which were just the right size for a light breakfast or snack. In addition to butter and syrup, there was also strawberry jam, which complemented the pancakes perfectly. Of course, you can't go wrong with pancakes, butter, and jam. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

During the Obon holiday? The summer vacation has started, but it was quite crowded even on weekdays in the evening. I ordered the pudding a la mode for 820 yen, and the simple yet nostalgic appearance was exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking how I wanted this elongated dish while watching the busy customers coming and going. It's very pleasing to see that this long-established shop is still popular. I hope it continues to thrive forever.

I couldn't find the entrance to the restaurant and ended up going to the wrong side... The 3rd floor I arrived at in the elevator turned out to be a clinic?! I was worried. Luckily, a Takase employee who happened to be in the elevator showed me the way and I finally made it. I had to wait for about 10 minutes at 2:30 pm. It was very hot because there was no air conditioning. They took our order while we were waiting, so the food came out as soon as we were seated. The omurice had a nice fluffy egg which made me happy. I asked for extra ketchup but I think they gave me too much? Even though I like it salty, I just managed to finish the ketchup. The dressing for the salad was not enough so I asked for more. They gave me a lot in a small dish. Yay!

Met up with friends from Kansai for a meal after work in Ikebukuro. Ended up deciding on Takase for lunch and tea. We were unsure of what to order, but decided to try the daily special which included fried food, gratin, salad, rice, miso soup, and a drink. The daily special was more like homemade cooking rather than the usual restaurant dishes like hamburgers or curry. It was simple but cheap. We moved to a different floor for tea, and enjoyed the retro feel of the Prin a la mode. The place was a bit cold so we couldn't stay long. It was difficult because they kept trying to seat more people even though our group wasn't complete. We bought some bread at the end, and found some additive-free bread which was a first for us. The Apollo and Danish donuts were delicious as always, and I also liked the cream-filled fried bread with mocha. Takase may not have the best food, but it's a classic and we still enjoy it.

I finally visited this shop after receiving bread from a friend and wanting to try it out. I had lunch and then moved to the dessert floor where I had a fruit anmitsu. The lunch was cheap, delicious, and filling! It felt more like eat and go rather than savoring the food, but I was very satisfied!! The cafe floor had very strong air conditioning, so it was too cold to relax comfortably, which was a shame. The melon was hard and not sweet at all, so I wished I had ordered something else. The attitude of the staff gave me the impression that because it's a popular shop, they might not pay much attention to customer care. Nevertheless, the bread was delicious (lol) so I bought some to take home. It's always nice when a popular shop has polite and considerate customer service, but unfortunately, this shop didn't give off that vibe.

I have visited the coffee lounge on the 9th floor of the long-established Takase, founded in 1920, after receiving sweets from a friend in Itabashi. The menu mainly consists of drinks, cakes, sweets, sandwiches, etc. The hospitality for beer is excellent, as mentioned by senbero.net. The charcoal-brewed coffee is priced at 680 yen, and you can also get a bottled beer with snacks for the same price! The snacks include a generous amount of mixed nuts and potato chips on a plate. I enjoyed a Kirin Lager in a small bottle while overlooking Ikebukuro Station, which was a fantastic location for enjoying a delicious beer. My companion had the Mixed Sandwich Set (1000 yen) with vegetable and ham sandwiches, which were quite filling. The iced coffee had a good balance of bitterness and acidity, making it delicious. The 3rd floor is a restaurant mainly serving Western cuisine, so I would like to try that next time. Thank you, Takase!

After finishing my plans earlier than expected, I found a cafe above a well-established bakery in Ikebukuro station where I could have a quick drink. They serve black beer in a mug and also have alcohol available. I was a bit hungry but decided not to order any food since they provided a generous amount of mixed nuts and potato chips as a snack with my beer. The view from the 9th floor of the building was nice, and it was conveniently located near the station. You can also make reservations for a table. Unfortunately, one of the elderly male staff members had a somewhat brusque attitude, but the other staff members were fine. Just be aware that they only accept cash.
