The location is in a trendy area called Harajuku. The owner is very friendly, sincere, and considerate, making you feel like you're being welcomed into a relative's home. The restaurant only accepts one reservation per day due to the current situation, focusing solely on serving that one group of customers. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a variety of tempura dishes available. The oysters in particular are delicious, perfectly fried and served with a unique and rustic dipping sauce. It feels like a taste of the countryside, creating a cozy and heartwarming dining experience.

There is a very small restaurant in Urahara Harajuku, which may have a considerable history. I was the first in line, waiting about 10 minutes before the opening of the small restaurant. The owner asked if I had a reservation when he hung up the curtain. There are about 6 seats at the counter and only enough table seats for 4 people. The walls are filled with various faded and discolored signs, mostly related to entertainment, with hardly any from cultural figures. There was an old sign from Chiemi Eri, who used to have a mansion in Sendagaya. I ordered the "Matsu Tendon" but had to wait quite a while, despite being the first customer. There are also A, B, and C set meals available, but I really wanted to try the tendon. I actually wanted to order the tempura bowl listed on the menu, but the owner mentioned they also offer another dish at lunchtime, so I ended up ordering the "Matsu Tendon." Surprisingly, it was only 900 yen. It wasn't a large portion, but it had two shrimp, vegetables like mushrooms and shiso, and was overall satisfying. The miso soup had wheat gluten and tempura bits. Interesting. It also came with a small salad and pickles. I waited about 30 minutes, but finished eating in about 10 minutes. When settling the bill, the owner apologized for the wait. He handles everything alone and seems to cook slowly and carefully. How you perceive this may affect your overall experience, but I found the owner's demeanor to be gentle, and aside from the cramped space, I didn't mind much. It's interesting to find such a down-to-earth restaurant in this area.

Before the store opened, I arrived and waited a bit before entering. It was a weekday, but it seemed like there were reservations as the inside of the store was small and quickly filled up. Customers who arrived later had to wait for 40 minutes. Before eating, the owner explained things to us. The food was very delicious and I was very satisfied with the price. The oysters in winter are big and delicious, so the owner told us to come again.

After finishing work at Kitazando, I visited this place. Luckily, I was seated right away and ordered the 1000 yen set meal. I listened to the owner's warning about the hot tempura to avoid getting burned. The tempura was bite-sized and came in various types, light and crispy. Delicious. Unfortunately, the rice wasn't good that day. I usually come here for the tasty rice...

A local casual tempura restaurant. It offers a different kind of deliciousness and enjoyment compared to high-end restaurants. As winter approaches, it's the season for oyster tempura. They have oyster tempura set meals, but when I visited the other day, I was able to change the one item in Course C to oyster tempura. The owner, who always runs the place alone, has a craftsman-like consideration that is heartwarming. When you order a set meal, you will be served more than the guaranteed minimum number of vegetable tempura until you say stop. However, it is taboo to be greedy and keep ordering endlessly, testing the adult restraint and refinement. The miso soup with tempura crumbs, lemon pickles, and other side dishes also have a nice touch. It's wonderful to have such a charming and down-to-earth restaurant in the Jingu-mae area. Thank you for the delicious meal as always. (Sorry for the bad photo)

A long-established tempura restaurant in front of the shrine. The interior is filled with signatures of famous people, probably due to the location being popular for interviews. On this day, I ordered the lunch set C (¥1500-). It came with two prawns, three vegetable tempura, two seafood tempura, rice, miso soup, pickles, and more. The tempura was honestly quite ordinary but had a nostalgic taste. What was nice was that they generously served extra vegetable tempura in addition to the course. In an area where trendy, Instagrammable restaurants are increasing, finding a place like this is comforting. Tempura set meal. Chose the lunch option C for 1500 yen. There are different options for ABC with varying amounts of food. The tempura was freshly fried and piping hot, which was great. It's disappointing when it's lukewarm or cold. They had some unusual items like broccoli and Chinese cabbage! The set menu has a set number of items, but if they brought out more, I would definitely eat it all. I'm stuffed! You can also get a refill of rice, so in terms of cost performance, it's really great. The restaurant is small, so it might be tight for two people.

I found this place after having dry curry at MOKUBAZA. I entered alone at 2:39 PM on a weekday. There were 2 groups of 3 customers already there. I ordered the A lunch for 800 yen with a small portion of rice. The owner warned me that the tempura is really hot, so be careful! There are a lot of vegetable tempura dishes. If you don't want any more, just let them know. The vegetable tempura included shiso leaf, green pepper, burdock root, radish skin, enoki mushroom, sweet potato, onion, and finally shrimp tempura. The tempura batter was crispy. The quality of this meal for the price is amazing.

Today's lunch, I wanted to go to the popular curry restaurant "Yogorou" in Jingumae, but around 12:45, there was a line of about 10 people. Despite the Tokyo governor holding an emergency press conference last night due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, it seems that popularity here is unaffected (bitter smile). So I passed by and went to the tempura restaurant "Matsubayashi" a few shops ahead. This is a popular restaurant frequented by celebrities (colorful paper autographs cover almost the entire wall), but on this day, there were only 2 previous customers. Perhaps this place is affected by the new coronavirus. Prompted by the owner, who seemed to be managing alone, I sat at the counter in the back. I was handed a menu along with tea and a hot towel, and was recommended to try the lunch set which was a good deal. So, I changed my mind from the tempura bowl to the tempura set menu with choices A, B, and C, and ordered the B in the middle. "Is this your first time having our tempura? Be careful, it's hot," I was warned (laughs). The first tray that came out was extravagant. Along with tempura dipping sauce, salt, lemon, pickles, there were onion salad, oyster miso pickles, and rice and miso soup. While eating the appetizer, I waited for the tempura to be fried. The first tempura that came out were 3 types of vegetables like enoki and shiso. Again, I was reminded to be careful as they were hot. Then, various vegetable tempura like pumpkin were served, followed by 2 shrimp tempura. The shrimp had a crispy coating with a juicy texture inside, perfectly fried. A unique item was the "rice tempura. Please try it," they said. When I tried it, it was more like mochi than rice. "Would you like to try the oyster tempura?" I enthusiastically replied "Yes!" and a large oyster tempura was served. "This is our pride and joy tempura. Be careful, it's hot," the third warning (laughs). Indeed, it was hot, but delicious. The umami of the oyster was firmly locked in the batter. Although it was said to be the last tempura, after a while, I was asked if I wanted more vegetable tempura, and I cheerfully said "Yes!" for the second time. Cabbage, burdock, and 3 other items were served. Despite the casual atmosphere, the taste was top-notch. It was a satisfying lunch experience.

Nice. I treated a couple in my neighborhood to a meal because they said they were short on money. Money is important.

It was so good and a great deal! The freshly fried tempura was delicious♪ Instead of the 3 types of vegetables, they served 12 types, so I think a man could eat even more! The owner was amazing, managing everything alone and was very kind.

The tempura set meal with a variety of tempura dishes served hot one by one is a delight. I chose the C lunch set for 1500 yen without hesitation. The meal started with a deliciously sweet carrot tempura, followed by enoki mushrooms, baby corn, broccoli, daikon peel, chrysanthemum greens, and other tasty vegetables. Additionally, there was a side salad, pickled oysters, and New Year's rice cake tempura. The meal ended with two tempura pieces of oysters, squid, and shrimp. Despite feeling quite full, the owner asked if I wanted more, so I indulged in another round. I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, but it was a truly satisfying experience. I plan to visit again in the evening next time.

A mysterious tempura shop in the local shopping street that serves banana tempura. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming at night. It's a family-run business, and I can't help but worry about the grandmother.

I had the Matsutendon (900 yen) for lunch. It had a rich sauce with a crispy texture. The combination of crispy texture, sauce richness, and ingredients like shrimp, eggplant, carrot, shiso leaf, bell pepper, and pumpkin made this tempura bowl very enjoyable. It also came with a small salad, pickles, and miso soup for 900 yen. This is a great deal.
