Visited a tonkatsu restaurant in Ikebukuro underground. Ordered the Hirekatsu set with 3 pieces. The set comes with unlimited rice, cabbage, and miso soup, all for 1400 yen, which is a great deal in Tokyo. The Hirekatsu pieces were cut into easy-to-eat sizes, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, very satisfying. There were two types of sauce available, both delicious.

When you want to eat tonkatsu in Ikebukuro, go to this restaurant. They serve cabbage (all-you-can-eat) first while you wait for your tonkatsu. There are two types of dressings for the cabbage, regular dressing and garlic soy sauce, both surprisingly tasty. The tonkatsu arrives, with thick and tender pork loin and crispy coating. You can choose various toppings like grated yam (today I chose raw egg). I will definitely come back again!

On a day off from drinking, I wandered around Ikebukuro Station looking for dinner. I felt like having katsudon, so I visited a restaurant, but as I ate, something felt off. The katsudon came with rice. I wondered if this was a mistake or if it was the standard. I finished the meal with the mystery unsolved. The katsudon was very delicious though! :)

I visited a tonkatsu restaurant called "Tonkatsu Daikichi" in Tobu Hope Center, located about a minute walk from the Ikebukuro station exit, on a weekday in July 2023 around 11:00 am. The cozy restaurant had a few customers already seated when I arrived. I ordered the "Hire Katsu Don" for ¥1,100 from the lunch menu. As soon as I placed my order, a plate of cabbage was served. It seemed customary to wait while eating the cabbage until the katsu don is served. After about 7-8 minutes, the Hira Katsu Don, miso soup, and pickles were served. The Hira Katsu Don had a good thickness of pork cutlet topped with chopped green onions, slightly runny egg, and not too sweet sauce, creating a delicious combination. With each bite of the generous portion of rice and egg-covered cutlet, I felt happy. I enjoyed the crispy pickles alongside the katsu don and sipped the miso soup, which complemented the dish well with its rich pork flavor and miso aroma. The cabbage could be enjoyed with shiso dressing and sesame dressing, but I preferred to drizzle tonkatsu sauce over it. The cabbage was refillable for free, so I savored it until satisfied. I sprinkled the seven spice chili powder from the tabletop packet on the katsu don and miso soup for an extra kick. I relished the flavor while savoring the pork's umami and scooping up the rice. After finishing the hearty meal of Hira Katsu Don, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles, I felt completely satisfied. The price of ¥1,100 seemed quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of the meal. "Tonkatsu Daikichi" offers a great deal for tasty tonkatsu right near the Ikebukuro station exit. I am interested in trying their fried fish, fried chicken, and curry from the lunch menu. I would definitely visit this restaurant again.

A colleague who temporarily returned from overseas wanted to eat tonkatsu! So we went to Ooyoshi, which serves lunch even on Sundays. They offer unlimited crispy cabbage, and the tonkatsu, both the loin and fillet, have a standard taste. Located underground, it feels like a traditional department store dining area at HOPE Shokudo.

During my work lunch break in Ikebukuro, I found a restaurant near the station where I could satisfy my craving for tonkatsu. I chose the meat lunch set for 1,000 yen, which was a good deal. The ham katsu had a strong presence, but the ham itself was a bit thin. The moist and thick fillet, along with the crispy and satisfying texture of the mille-feuille, made for a decently tasty meal. Thank you for the meal.

The score was not bad and I was interested. The set with cheese-filled pork cutlet is 1700 yen. I have no particular complaints, but I don't think I would revisit just to pay this price. The unique feature was having garlic sauce in addition to tonkatsu sauce. Thank you for the meal!

I visited alone around 1 pm on a regular day, and about half of the seats were taken. I tried the recommended lunch set A: meat lunch for 1000 yen at Daikichi. Cabbage was served before the meat, and I topped it with sesame dressing. About 10 minutes later, the meat arrived. The lineup included fillet cutlet, mille-feuille cutlet, and ham cutlet. For the price of 1000 yen, the quality was high. The ham cutlet was a bit thin, the fillet cutlet was tender and delicious. Cabbage was refillable, and the staff came to confirm if I needed a refill when it was empty.

May 24, 2023, Wednesday 18:30 There were seats available, with 3 groups of customers already seated. I ordered the premium 180g pork cutlet set meal for 2000 yen, mixed fry for 1650 yen, a small bottle of Asahi beer for 600 yen, and a cola for 300 yen. The batter on the food was moist, and the pork cutlet didn't have a strong taste of fat. It would have been nice to have some rock salt on the table.

I visited Tonkatsu Daikichi in Ikebukuro. The restaurant is located on the south zone of Tobu Hope Center on the underground floor of JR Ikebukuro Station (outside the ticket gates). This was my first visit. The opening hours are from 10:00 to 22:00. I visited on a Saturday around 10:30 am. There were only 3 customers inside the restaurant, which only has table seating. I was seated at a table for two. Menu I tried on that day: - Meat lunch set (1,000 yen including tax) * Rice and cabbage refills are free. Refills for miso soup are 150 yen. You can change to barley rice for an additional 50 yen. (Refills are white rice) After ordering, cabbage was served immediately with sesame dressing on the table. The cabbage was well drained and had a soft texture with a sweet taste. It was so delicious that I asked for a refill. The meat lunch set arrived in about 15 minutes, consisting of fillet katsu, mille-feuille katsu, and ham katsu, along with rice, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles. I enjoyed the different sauces and salt with each type of katsu. The fillet katsu was bite-sized, crispy, well-cooked, tender, and flavorful. The breadcrumbs used were large, providing a crunchy texture. The mille-feuille katsu was juicy and allowed me to enjoy the taste of the fat in the meat. The ham katsu looked large but was extremely thin, with the breading being thicker than the ham itself, making it less satisfying. The miso soup was served hot with pork, daikon radish, onion, carrot, and green onion. It had a unique taste due to the miso and pork fat flavors. The rice was cooked to a firm texture, but the quality of the rice seemed low and didn't suit my taste. I did not ask for a refill because it didn't appeal to me. The restaurant had a nostalgic atmosphere, and the service from the one staff member was efficient and pleasant. The fillet and mille-feuille katsu were satisfying, but the thinness of the ham katsu and the rice quality were disappointing. Considering the taste and value, I might revisit to try a regular fillet or loin katsu set. Overall, it was a decent experience.

I went to Ikebukuro Tobu Department Store's Hope Center to try the katsudon that I had been wanting to eat in the crowded Golden Week. Today, I had already decided to eat katsudon, so I looked at the menu. There were some lunch specials available on weekdays. The set meals come with unlimited cabbage and rice. I ordered the katsudon (1400 yen). It's a bit expensive for a katsudon. Right after ordering, cabbage arrived, which you can eat with sauce or sesame dressing. It's nice that they offer unlimited cabbage with the katsudon. After waiting for 10 minutes, the katsudon arrived. It looked very appealing. It had a large and thick tonkatsu, typical of a tonkatsu restaurant. The sauce soaked into the katsu and the rice was delicious. The miso soup was actually tonjiru (pork miso soup). The ginger flavor was quite strong, more so than the pork or miso, which I didn't really like. The egg was completely cooked and a bit firm, but overall, it was a tasty katsudon with a good balance.

Visited at 4:30 pm on a weekday. There were 4.5 groups of customers, so it was fairly busy for the time. Ordered "Hirekatsu set meal x3" and "Curry Loo". After ordering, cabbage was served right away. The cuts were thick, slightly dry, and a bit bitter, indicating the freshness may not be the best. After a while, the Curry Loo arrived. The ingredients were cooked to a thick consistency, with a slight bitterness and a hint of spice, making it a mature and flavorful curry. I was planning to eat it with rice, so I was a bit surprised that it came out first. Finally, the main dish arrived. The Hirekatsu was delicious! Incredibly tender and juicy, with a satisfying thickness despite being slightly small. The crispy coating was crunchy and light. The garlic sauce was very tasty, with a sweet and strong garlic flavor. I wish all tonkatsu sauces tasted like this. Discovered wasabi after the meal, which was on the table from the start but I was too focused on the garlic sauce to notice. I must come back to try it with wasabi. Despite the slightly disappointing cabbage, the Hirekatsu was impressive. Really delicious! The curry had cooled by the time the rice arrived, which was a bit of a letdown, but it still tasted great. Considering the quality of the Hirekatsu and the generous set meal, plus the Curry Loo, the price of 1700 yen is incredibly cost-effective. The fact that they are open all day is also convenient. I will definitely go back! Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant around 7:30 PM on Monday. The restaurant had 4 tables for 4 people and 5 tables for 2 people. When I entered, there were more solo diners. I ordered the regular pork instead of the premium one because it was sold out. They served cabbage first, which was roughly cut. The cabbage was served immediately, and after a 10-minute wait, the pork arrived. The taste of the regular pork was really average. If you're going to order, I recommend getting the premium or higher. The pork didn't have much fat, so it might be good for those who don't like fatty meat. The meat was juicy, and when you bite into it, the juices overflow. The taste was neither good nor bad, just average.

I visited this restaurant for the fourth time in two years. I had tried the tonkatsu and pork loin before, but they were too salty and spicy for me. Today, I ordered the fried fish and shellfish lunch with kushikatsu. It was delicious and not too salty. I enjoyed the fish dishes, and I look forward to trying the meat dishes next time. Thank you for the meal.

Visit on Saturday around 5:00 PM. There were only 2 or 3 groups of customers in the shop, so we were seated quickly. I ordered a set meal with 4 pieces of pork cutlet and a crab cream croquette as a side dish. Cabbage for self-service came out first, and the set meal arrived in less than 10 minutes. The batter was crispy and delicious, but the oil felt a bit heavy. There were two types of sauce for the tonkatsu: regular and garlic miso sauce, and the latter was quite addictive. The interior of the shop is not very clean. I don't think I will willingly come back again.

Meat lunch set for ¥1,000 includes rice, miso soup, pickles, and unlimited cabbage. Located inside Ikebukuro Station at Tobu Hope Center, there are plenty of tables but the turnover rate is not very high, so it seems crowded. The three types of meat were overall good. The ham cutlet was a bit thin for my liking, as I love ham. The cabbage comes with garlic sauce, and I prefer it that way, but be aware that it's quite garlicky.

Tonkatsu restaurant located inside Tobu Hope in Ikebukuro Station underground. Saw a line and the Tabelog rating was decent, so decided to try it out. Ordered the Special Premium Loin Cutlet Set for 1900 yen. Hmm, maybe I've been eating too much delicious tonkatsu lately. Felt like it was fried too much, and the rice and cabbage were okay for refills, but the rice was so-so and there were some wilted cabbage pieces. Maybe the regular set would have been better.

=R5.2=It's been 2 months since my last visit, and this time I visited on a holiday. I ordered the pork cutlet set with 4 pieces of cutlets. The serving style was a bit different this time, with the cabbage being served first. The pork cutlets were noticeably smaller than before, probably due to the increase in the prices of oil, wheat, and eggs. Rice and cabbage refills are free. I enjoyed a second serving of rice and finished my meal feeling satisfied. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Having dinner at a tonkatsu restaurant in the Tobu Hope Center underground. This is my first review, but I have been using this restaurant occasionally for a while. Lately, I have been enjoying ginger pork at tonkatsu restaurants. So, I ordered the following: Ginger pork set meal for 1,200 yen, Asahi Super Dry small bottle for 500 yen (additional), Kakuhai Highball for 470 yen. I like ginger pork with pork loin. I think the pork loin ginger pork at tonkatsu restaurants is quite good. However, I found out that they use pork belly for their ginger pork when I saw the menu photo. But I thought it would be okay to have pork belly once in a while, so I ordered it. While drinking beer and waiting for a while, the set meal arrived. It looked quite delicious. Although there seemed to be a lot of onions on top, underneath, there was plenty of meat laid out. It was pork belly, but the meat was tender, sweet, and nicely grilled, very delicious! The ginger flavor was there, but the seasoning was quite salty! So even though the rice should have been appetizing, the rice served that day was not like the rice you would expect from a tonkatsu restaurant... What happened!? I usually get a rice refill here, but I didn't feel like it this time. Did they change the rice? Was it a storage issue? It's a shame that the delicious side dish was ruined by the rice (>o<") In the end, I didn't ask for a rice refill and just ordered a highball. Even the highball had lost its carbonation and the taste was weak, making it somewhat unsatisfying. It was my first visit in a while, and I felt a bit disappointed... The meat was the star, but the fact that the rice wasn't tasty was quite disappointing.
