The health check-up was in Ebisu, which was great, but it ended at 3:30 pm... There are very few places where you can eat at this time in any town. I was so hungry and walking around aimlessly, and before I knew it, the station was right in front of me. Since I hadn't eaten anything since last night, my stomach and back were practically stuck together. I couldn't resist, so I rushed into a place without even knowing what kind of shop it was, and ended up trying my first Banh Mi!! Banh Mi is essentially a "Vietnamese sandwich". Here, there are around 10 menu options depending on the filling (pork, chicken, mackerel, shrimp, etc). I ordered the most popular one, the "Banh Mi Saigon". After a few minutes of waiting on a bench in front of the store, I received the Banh Mi wrapped in semi-transparent packaging. The filling included char siu, liver pate, cucumber, pickled vegetables, chili sauce, cilantro, etc. When I tried it, the bread was surprisingly crispy and easy to bite into. I was actually prepared for it to be like French bread, causing me to bleed in my mouth (lol), but it was delicious and didn't happen. The emphasis on "going on a bread training trip to Vietnam" was interesting. The sign also mentioned "homemade bread". Looking at the shop's website, it seems to be a bakery that focuses on traditional Vietnamese bread making. In addition to the bread, the liver pate forms the base of the flavor, while cilantro and chili sauce add an exotic touch. Quite tasty. I would definitely want to try Banh Mi again if I have the chance!
