This is a shop that sells traditional Japanese confectionery versions of pressed butter sandwiches. It is located in Daimaru Department Store in Kyoto, and I had been wanting to try it for a while, so I decided to visit for the first time. They usually offer a traditional Japanese version as well, but this time I tried the limited-time chestnut butter sandwich. I used my Daimaru Matsuzakaya shareholder discount card for payment, which gave me a 10% discount, and then used a department store gift card, so it was a good deal. When I got home, I tried it right away. The chestnut cream inside was quite delicious. It tasted more like a Western confectionery than a traditional Japanese one.

Casually went to Kyoto with my wife and found an interesting cookie sandwich. Summary: Japanese Butter Sandwich [Genmaicha] for 1296 yen. A cookie sandwich with a diameter of about 30mm and a thickness of 15mm. The crispy cookie has a buttercream with a popping texture. The fragrance of brown rice comes gently from the butter and wheat. It has a delicious taste similar to traditional Japanese sweets. The shelf life is about one week.

When I visited the Ippa by PRESS BUTTERSAND store at Daimaru Kyoto, it was not crowded, so I decided to try the new store. It seems like they specialize in a Japanese confectionery line of the popular Press Buttersand. They also have stores in Tokyo and Nagoya, so maybe it's not that rare. I'm not a big fan of Press Buttersand, but I decided to buy it anyway. I bought the daifuku and dorayaki. The daifuku had a very soft filling, similar to buttercream with red bean paste inside. It felt more like a cream with butter flavor than a traditional Japanese confectionery. I ate it at room temperature, but I think it might taste better slightly chilled. However, since it's daifuku, chilling it might make the mochi too hard. The dorayaki had a more Western confectionery feel to it. The buttery texture was prominent, and the cake was soft and fluffy. It was an interesting snack.
