The nail appointment was approaching, and I was wandering around because I needed to eat lunch before heading to the appointment. I found a Chinese restaurant on the second floor under the overpass, and decided to try their special dish called "Daroumen" without knowing what it was. It looked like noodles with bean sprouts stir-fried in egg sauce. When I first took a bite, the hot and thick sauce was really delicious. I had to eat quickly because of the time constraint, but I wish I had more time to savor the dish slowly. It was so tasty. The Daroumen at Taikorou in Nihonbashi Yaesu Kitaguchi has a similar concept with noodles stir-fried with cabbage and topped with egg sauce, and both dishes are equally delicious. I will definitely go back again.

I ordered without knowing what it was, and what came out was a thick vegetable sauce soup with a lot of starch, with medium thick chewy noodles in it. The sauce was quite firm, making it difficult to eat with the noodles. I regretted ordering this troublesome ramen. However, both the sauce and noodles tasted good, so I would like to try a different menu next time.

This day was spent visiting various art exhibitions. We went to the "Tea Art Museum Exhibition," "Imamori Mitsuhiko Exhibition," "Insects in Japanese People's Lives," and "The Sea" before meeting up with friends for the finale at "Ancient Mexico." Afterwards, around 5:30, we headed near the restaurant and made a reservation over the phone. We climbed the stairs from a confusing entrance and were seated at the farthest table where we were presented with a menu. There were so many options that it was hard to choose. We started with the safe choice of spring rolls and fried dumplings, but they were out of fried dumplings. Many other items were also unavailable, so we asked for some recommended dishes. When we tried to order a rare type of Shaoxing wine, it was sold out, so we went with the restaurant's suggestion, which turned out to be delicious. We were told not to order more and to make all our choices at once because they had another reservation coming in. We were lucky to even get a table, as other customers who came after us were turned away due to reservations. When we asked for something like yakisoba after all our initial dishes were served, they said they didn't have yakisoba but could offer chow fun. Despite the somewhat unfriendly service, the food was very tasty. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Located on the second floor of a clothing store on the Ameyoko Line, this place is amazing. The ramen here has a deep-colored broth with a punchy flavor that pairs perfectly with the firm, medium-thick noodles. The chashu is also delicious, packed with meaty goodness. This energetic shop in the bustling Ameyoko area exudes a tranquil atmosphere that is very charming. ✨

I have been wandering around Ueno for about 20 years, but I have never been to this restaurant before. It's called Shin Toyo and it's located down a deep alley next to a hat shop, right under the railway tracks. It's a place that only seasoned locals would know about. I didn't know about it until now! I didn't know what to order since it was my first time. I ended up ordering the special yakisoba for 850 yen, while my husband ordered the fried rice for 700 yen and two Taiwan beers for 600 yen each. The kitchen seemed to have only one chef, so it took a while for our food to be ready, but it was delicious! The yakisoba had crispy noodles with a savory sauce, and it was so good! The fried rice was also tasty! The atmosphere inside the restaurant was a bit rough, with customers picking out bean sprout roots at their seats, but I would definitely want to come back for the delicious food. Thank you for the meal!

On Sunday, I went to Ueno for cherry blossom viewing. Many trees were not fully bloomed yet, with buds still tightly closed. The cherry blossoms will be in full bloom soon. For lunch, I went to Ameyoko after a long time. Somehow, there are now many daytime drinking spots that look like street stalls, and all of them were bustling with people. Among them, "Taiwanese Cuisine Shin Toyo" is a rare restaurant with a long history where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. It is located on the second floor of a clothing store down a narrow alley. It was my first visit in several years. I ordered the Lo Mein, Negi Tamago (leek and egg), boiled dumplings, and chicken and onion stir-fry set meal. The Lo Mein had a thick broth, almost like a sauce, with plenty of vegetables, crunchy bean sprouts, and beaten eggs, giving it a gentle and delicious flavor. It was so tasty that I even put the sauce on the white rice for a second helping. The boiled dumplings were chewy and the Negi Tamago was flavorful enough to enjoy on its own. The chicken and onion stir-fry set meal was slightly spicy and went perfectly with rice. I was pleased to find that the set meal came with egg drop soup. By the way, when searching for "Lo Mein," you'll find a completely different type of noodles from a B-grade gourmet dish in Nagano Prefecture. This mysterious Lo Mein with piping hot sauce that sticks to the noodles is a unique and addictive deliciousness that you can't find elsewhere! Thank you for the meal♪

I visited Ameyoko at the end of the year and decided to have lunch while I was there. The deciding factor for entering the restaurant was the menu board outside. There were some strange spellings, and "Omlas" and "Mapo" caught my eye, so I wanted to try them. However, the menu was limited at the end of the year, and they couldn't make "Omlas," so I ordered Pork Curry Noodles instead. The ramen part was quite ordinary, but the pork curry part was surprisingly delicious. As for the "Mapo," it was a taste I had never experienced before, making it hard to decide whether it was delicious or not.

Located in the tourist spot of Ameyoko, this place does not offer warm customer service. It's not a place to relax, as many people are drinking during the day. ■What we ordered◇Pork Chop Rice Look at the photo! A huge pork chop! It's delicious!! The pickled mustard greens are a nice accent.◇Black Fungus Soup x2◇Beef Vermicelli (for my husband)

In the summer, I crave sesame sauce chilled noodles. The chilled noodles at Shin Toyo are luxurious yet simple. The fragrant star anise-flavored chicken is generously served on top, and it is delicious. The service is always just right, making it a comfortable place to dine alone. Whether you order chilled noodles or any other dish, the portion size is sufficient and it is a staple for lunch in Ameyoko during the summer.

There are quite a few people who don't know about Ameya Yokocho. It's not in America. Anyway, in the middle, there is a Chinese restaurant called Shintoyo. I skipped the crowded Fish Sake and decided to try this place for the first time. It's quite deep. As I climbed the stairs, a female staff member peeked out and said it's "back there." I sat at a window seat and looked at the menu. Oh, there are not many options for lunch. Oh no. I asked the female staff if this was all for lunch, and she said "yes." I ordered the liver and leek dish. The liver was delicious. It's not too salty, and the vegetables are crisp, with bamboo shoots adding a nice touch. I had two beers and the liver dish, which ended up costing 1,980 yen. I made a mistake as the prices were excluding tax. The liver dish also had a limit. I wanted to try the boiled dumplings. People who came in later were ordering things like century egg, which were being handled by the male staff. It's not fair.

There is a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant in Ameyoko. Going up to the second floor of that building in Ameyoko is a bit exciting. It is a Chinese restaurant with a Taiwanese influence. When I visited during lunchtime, there were no Taiwanese dishes on the menu, so I decided to try the Negi Liver Tsukemen instead of the set meal. When I tried to order the Negi Liver Tsukemen, I was informed that all the tsukemen were priced the same at 900 yen. I thought it was 800 yen, but oh well. The dish was served quite quickly. The Negi Liver stir-fry was soaking in the dipping soup. The noodles were ordinary Chinese noodles with an oily coating. The flavor was exactly like liver and leek stir-fry. The soup had a tangy Chinese flavor. The noodles were smooth. I found that the Negi Liver tasted better without being dipped in the soup. I thought rice would be a better match than noodles. Finally, when it came time to pay, I realized that the price was actually 990 yen, not 900 yen as I had thought. So, it's a little bit on the expensive side.

I went to Ueno and visited Shintoyo for the first time in a while. It was still bustling as usual. I ordered Taiwanese beer, water dumplings, Paikou noodles, and fried rice. The total bill was 3080 yen. Hmm, a bit expensive? Thank you for the meal.

The angle of the photo is not good, but there are bean sprouts and pickled mustard greens between the paiko and white rice. I personally like the crispy texture of the curry-flavored paiko along with the crunchy bean sprouts and pickled mustard greens. It goes well with white rice. This restaurant is great for enjoying delicious food and drinks, whether as a meal or as a snack. However, their signature dish, the raamen, was too hot for me, so I only tried it once. I usually go for the paiko bowl for lunch, and it's always delicious.

After leaving Ueno Market, we decided to try Chinese food at Shin Toyo, a place I had been wanting to visit. I ordered a shochu highball for 400 yen and we all raised our glasses for a toast. The appetizer was fried peas. We ordered clams (1200 yen), stir-fried water spinach (1200 yen), dried tofu threads (700 yen), pickled vegetables (500 yen), homemade dumplings (500 yen), three fresh dumplings (500 yen), Taiwanese sausage (600 yen), bamboo shoots (500 yen), mapo tofu (1000 yen), and pig's feet. The pig's feet dish was left to the chef's choice, but I specifically requested the dried tofu threads because I like their dry texture. The other dishes were all delicious as well. I quickly switched from shochu to Shaoxing wine. I wonder how many bottles we finished? There was a lady sitting alone at a table when we arrived, and she kindly shared information about the restaurant and the food with us and other customers. We thought she might be the head waitress, but it turned out she was just a regular customer. The restaurant's owner apologized for her talkative nature, but I found her interactions quite charming. The owner's hospitality made us feel like we were dining at a familiar place. Tomorrow is a work day, so it's time to wrap up. As we climbed the steep stairs, we were greeted with delicious food. Thank you for the feast.

Recommended dish: Soy sauce simmered clams, Shaoxing rice wine with rock sugar
A deep place loved by regulars, the entrance is a bit hidden but once you enter, it's just like a normal restaurant. The clams simmered in garlic soy sauce are delicious. Due to the current pandemic, some menu items are not available. It's nice that you can order rock sugar with Shaoxing wine.

Dinner on November 27, 2021 (Saturday) with my partner. We got off the bus in front of Ueno Matsuzakaya and headed back to Ameyoko. We checked out a couple of places but didn't feel like any of them suited our mood, so we decided to try this restaurant that we found through a search. It's located on the second floor behind Ueno 610 America-ya, an American casual wear store. It was 4:32 PM, just after a group of tourists had left, so we were the only customers there. I ordered a draft beer, which came with tasty peanuts as a complimentary snack. We ordered handmade gyoza (500 yen), fried pork cutlet in curry style (700 yen), and stir-fried pork with egg, wood ear mushrooms, and vegetables (900 yen). The fried pork cutlet arrived first, which I thought was a bit strange since I had forgotten that I had eaten tonkatsu for lunch. The curry flavor was enjoyable. The stir-fried pork dish was a bit different, with the egg seeming to be cooked separately and added later, and the pork having a thick cut, which was okay. The gyoza was average. I had another glass of draft beer, and the total bill came to 4400 yen. The restaurant advertises itself as serving "Taiwanese small dishes," so it's likely run by people from Taiwan. Even though I only understand about 7% of Chinese, the conversations I overheard were in Mandarin, but the atmosphere was much calmer, softer, and less noisy compared to mainland Chinese restaurants (laughs). Today's new COVID-19 cases were 16 in Tokyo, 19 in Osaka, and 122 nationwide.

On Saturday around 7 pm, we visited with 3 people. As always, the restaurant was bustling. It was almost full, but we managed to squeeze in. The proprietress was as kind as ever, especially to customers who drink a lot. We had 2 bottles of Shaoxing wine, stuffed spring rolls, Kung Pao chicken, and San Lao Mian. The total bill was 10,500 yen. We were very satisfied.

This is a Taiwanese Chinese restaurant in Ueno. The restaurant is located on the slightly complex 2nd floor. I visited during lunchtime at 13:45 on a holiday, and there were no other customers. The restaurant is a bit cramped. The menu is more like a regular Chinese restaurant in town rather than Taiwanese cuisine. I ordered the spicy stir-fried eggplant set for 800 yen. The spicy stir-fried eggplant was cooked well and quite delicious. It had a bit of a spicy kick, which made it enjoyable with rice. The portion size was quite generous. However, the rice itself was not tasty, with a slight smell and dry texture. The soup was average in taste but was served quite warm, which was a bit of a concern. The salad seemed to have lost some moisture after being cut for a while. Maybe it's because of the price... The spicy stir-fried eggplant itself was quite delicious.

I had a lot of drinks earlier, so I decided to go to a higher-end restaurant listed on Tabelog. When I went up to the second floor and said there were two of us, they directed us to a specific seat. I ordered a bottled beer and a highball, but the glass for the bottled beer looked like a non-breakable water cup from a school cafeteria. We toasted and I thought to myself that it was good. The fried leek and egg dish seemed popular among Tabelog reviewers, so I tried it and found it delicious with a dry texture of leeks and a soy sauce-based sauce. The mapo tofu had a rich color and was very tasty, not too spicy. The Chinese lady at the restaurant seemed expressionless as she continuously made dumplings. When I called her, she seemed a bit scary. That's right, the food was delicious!

I got off at Ueno to grab a light meal, but the area around Okachimachi was overflowing with people. Everywhere was quite crowded due to the large number of people. With the guidance of a friend, I finally found a place that was not too busy. The staff was eating their meal when I arrived, but they welcomed me warmly. The interior of the restaurant had a very homey, Taiwanese vibe.
- Roasted peanuts (appetizer)
- Pan-fried dumplings with crispy wings. High-level deliciousness.
- Stir-fried water spinach, a must-have when eating Chinese food.
- Dried radish and egg omelette, my first time trying it and it was easy to eat.
- Dried tofu, a unique tofu noodle with a salad-like texture.
- Zha Cai, not just regular pickled mustard stems but stir-fried with vegetables. The intense flavor goes well with alcohol.
- Shrimp rolls with a firm skin texture and packed with shrimp flavor.
- Shaoxing wine, the cheapest bottle was recommended by the auntie, and it turned out to be delicious with a unique aroma. A trustworthy restaurant that recommends truly delicious items.
- Chu-hai, refreshing and enjoyable. I was introduced to a great hidden gem of a restaurant. I definitely want to come back here.

On July 1st, Thursday at 6:30 PM, I couldn't get into Chinman due to it being extremely crowded, so I ended up here. Since it was nighttime, I started with some appetizers. Stuffed intestines for ¥500 and three fresh dumplings for ¥500. The filling in the dumplings was mainly chives, eggs, and shrimp, but it was overwhelmingly chive-flavored. I had a beer for ¥550, then switched to a lemon sour for ¥400, which was too sweet, so I switched to a shochu highball for ¥400. Finished off with beef soup noodles for ¥800. Now, can you guess the total bill? The answer is ¥3800. Surprisingly, the appetizer fee was ¥650!! It was made with Chiba-grown peanuts, haha.
