After the market moved to Toyosu, Tsukiji's outer market continues to bustle with tourists. We decided to try out this place, "Itadori Tsukiji Omote Store," which is one of the seafood restaurants operated by "Itadori" focusing on Tsukiji. This place offers seafood bowls during the day and various dishes at night. Surprisingly, we found it easy to get a seat on a weekend afternoon, perhaps because it's located one street away from the main road. There are also open-air seats across the street, where the food is being prepared. But first, let's refuel with a beer.
- "Draft Beer @670 (excluding tax)"
When it was brought to us, we were a bit disappointed by the color of the uni compared to the menu.
- "Original Seafood Hitsumabushi @2,980 (excluding tax)"
This hitsumabushi includes 12 types of seafood such as tuna, scallops, salmon, octopus, ikura, conger eel, etc. The price is based on domestic uni, and it would be ¥600 cheaper if it were foreign uni. The presentation is lacking, but let's try to enjoy it.
According to the recommended way to eat hitsumabushi, you can enjoy it in three ways. The overall portion is a bit small, so we started by eating it as a seafood bowl, which had a variety of seafood that allowed us to enjoy different flavors. However, nothing stood out as particularly good or delicious. The second serving is to mix it with the rice until it turns uni-colored, but personally, I found it more enjoyable as a regular seafood bowl without mixing the uni. The last way is to eat it like ochazuke, where the staff pours the broth for you. Unfortunately, the lukewarm broth was too mild and had a slightly fishy taste, not quite to my liking.
My husband ordered the luxurious bowl here.
- "Special Selection DX Bowl @3,180 (excluding tax)"
It includes red tuna, salmon, fresh white fish, bonito, squid, shrimp, negitoro, uni, ikura, conger eel, scallops, crab flakes, and tamagoyaki. The thick slices of sashimi were impressively arranged, and the taste was decent, matching the price. The uni here seemed to be in better condition than the one in the hitsumabushi.
Overall, our meal at Tsukiji Itadori Omote Store left us feeling a bit unsatisfied in terms of taste and fullness. We left without a complete culinary experience, ready to hop to another restaurant right after.
