"Motchan yaki" is a dish where domestically sourced beef offal and mixed offal are grilled on a hot plate with plenty of vegetables, creating a juicy and flavorful dish. At first, it may resemble a hot pot like "motsunabe," but as the moisture evaporates, it becomes crispy and aromatic. The sauce, based on a rich soy sauce, is accented with fried garlic and yuzu pepper, making it perfect for pairing with the "Aisome Highball," a sweet potato shochu mixed with carbonated water. "Yamaya" is known for its mentaiko, and the "mentaiko tamagoyaki" made with a whole piece of mentaiko wrapped in rolled egg is a must-try for mentaiko lovers. The mentaiko inside is cooked just right, almost raw, giving it a delicious taste. Another must-try from Hakata is the "Hakata specialty sesame mackerel," made with firm mackerel from the Genkai Sea, cut into easy-to-eat pieces and served with a sweet soy sauce and ground sesame. The "Hakata bite-sized gyoza" served on the hot plate is enjoyed with yuzu pepper instead of vinegar soy sauce, following the Hakata style. For dessert, instead of "chanpon" in the remaining sauce of the "Motchan yaki," the "Umadashi mentaicha-zuke" was chosen, a delicious choice for mentaiko lovers. With a side of wasabi, it was a fantastic end to the meal in Hakata. Delicious!

As the hot pot season is coming to an end, I was craving motsu-nabe and decided to try out Yamaya near my office for the first time. It's conveniently located near Shinagawa Konan Exit. I made a reservation for a counter seat, but they prepared a table seat by the window for me, which was much appreciated. I could see Shinagawa Station from there. The pickles, mentaiko, and rice appetizer made me want more rice, haha. The food at Yamaya was consistently delicious. The draft beer was poured with care, so I ended up getting a refill. It was a bit disappointing that the closing time seemed to be earlier, and I felt a bit rushed towards the end.

The meal at the famous restaurant Yama-ya in Fukuoka was excellent. We opted for the course menu this time, which was affordable, generous in portion size, and priced at only 3,500 yen. Adding the all-you-can-drink option brought the total to 5,500 yen, which was still satisfying. The drink selection was extensive, with a variety of beers, sake, and sour cocktails available. I will definitely be going back.

This is a shop located about a 5-minute walk from Shinagawa Station Konan Exit. It is an izakaya owned by Yamaya, famous for its mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and their motsu nabe (offal hot pot) is delicious. I visited on a Saturday at 7:00 PM. There were a few empty seats available. However, customers without reservations were being turned away, so it seems like all the seats were reserved. I ordered the Mentaiko Potatoes Salad for 500 yen, which is mashed potatoes topped with layers of mentaiko and boiled eggs that you mix together before eating. When you come to Yamaya, you just have to order mentaiko, right? I also ordered the Sesame Mackerel for 980 yen. It's a place where you'll want to try Kyushu specialties, but this dish was a bit on the smaller side. While enjoying the side dishes, the motsu nabe is being prepared. The motsu (offal) is large and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture. You can also enjoy drinks with yuzu, allowing you to savor Kyushu's specialties.

On a regular day just before 11:50 am, there were about 3 groups of customers ahead of me. As more customers kept coming out, I decided to line up. At this shop, you order and pay at the entrance before being seated. I was able to sit down within a few minutes of lining up. I was torn between the spicy cod roe fried chicken and the cod roe with pickled mustard greens, but since I could enjoy the pickled mustard greens freely, I chose the fried chicken set meal for 1300 yen. When I saw the food, I thought it was a bit expensive for 1300 yen, but considering that I could enjoy the pickled mustard greens and pickled mustard greens freely, it wasn't too bad. The fried chicken didn't particularly stand out in terms of flavor, but it was simply delicious. I was able to enjoy the pickled mustard greens with tea, and it was indeed flavorful. Completely authentic, just like the original Yamaya store in Fukuoka. The mentaiko (spicy cod roe) is all-you-can-eat and I am so satisfied that it's scary. Am I going to be executed for this? The lunch, with each person getting their own heavy hot pot, costs a little over 2000 yen. It's just perfect for eating rice. This was my first time at the Shinagawa store, and it had a lively atmosphere. I came with my child, and luckily, the table closest to the entrance (with a partition) was available. They kindly let me park my stroller there. Amazing service. I love you, Yamaya.

Sometimes I suddenly crave mentaiko (spicy cod roe). At those times, I go to Yamaya for lunch and eat plenty of white rice with mentaiko. However, recently, due to the influence of COVID-19, the style has changed. On this day, I went to this restaurant without worrying about that style, and had mentaiko and motsunabe (offal hot pot). First, I tried the freshly made mentaiko delivered directly from the factory. It had a slight chewiness and was light and delicious, better than the ones usually bought as souvenirs. I personally would be even happier if it had a bit more punchy spiciness. It's perfect for sipping on some alcohol. Then, I tried various Fukuoka specialties. First, the iron pot gyoza. Each small and thin-skinned gyoza in the iron pot is perfect with beer. It has a strong garlic flavor, which might be the complete opposite of the large Utsunomiya gyoza, but a taste that everyone loves. Next was iwashimentai, where mentaiko is spread on the internal organs. It has a great taste, but dealing with small bones can be a hassle. I actually prefer sanma mentai. Next was not a Hakata specialty, but a specialty from Yobuko, Saga Prefecture, ika shumai. It's really delicious, but when compared to a truly delicious ika shumai, it seems to be a lower rank. I wish the coating was a bit more fluffy. While snacking on karashi takana (spicy pickled mustard greens) and yamaimo yaki (grilled mountain yam), the main dish was motsunabe. Among them, I had heard about a spicy motsunabe called mala motsunabe and went there to try it, but it turns out it was a limited menu from last year and they're not serving it this year. What a shame... So, I was considering having a regular motsunabe when I heard about a menu like motsu yakinabe for this summer, so I chose that. It was incredibly delicious. I like regular motsunabe, but this was also very tasty. The slight charring of the motsu added a good flavor, enhancing the richness of the taste. I would love to eat this exceptional dish again. The service was great, and it was a very nice restaurant experience!

The prices keep going up, but the allure of all-you-can-eat mentaiko (spicy cod roe) never fades. And before you know it, they've even added all-you-can-drink dashi (broth) to the menu. It's winter, so there's a boom in wanting to eat hot pot. I went to Yama-ya, which is known for its motsunabe (offal hot pot) and lunchtime all-you-can-eat mentaiko (spicy cod roe) offer, which is irresistible to those who love purines. The restaurant is well-known in Tokyo, with a great location near Konan-guchi, so it's always busy even at night. I ordered motsunabe first, but it took a while to arrive, so I ended up ordering some dishes to satisfy my hunger. The seasonal vegetable salad, Yama-ya's three types of appetizers, Hakata bite-sized gyoza, miso-flavored motsunabe, mentaiko potato salad with half-cooked egg, and onigiri arrived in that order. The appetizers were disappointing, especially the smelly karasumi (bottarga) which was nothing like the picture. The gyoza needed a few more minutes to cook for that crispy texture. The miso in the motsunabe was too sweet, so I had to add yuzu pepper to make it bearable. I was completely unsatisfied until I tried the potato salad, which was a saving grace. I also made the mistake of ordering onigiri, which was disappointing. Overall, I would recommend this place for a mentaiko lunch, but not much else. Thank you for the meal.

After several years, I used it again and the price had gone up. However, the unlimited servings of mentaiko, takana, rice, and miso soup were still the same as before. The delicious side dishes also had a good amount of volume. All in all, I am satisfied. Recommended for those who love mentaiko or want to eat heartily.

I visited the restaurant at 11:30 am. Since it was still early for lunch, there were only a few customers. Acrylic boards were placed on each table and counter seat. The benches were spaced out more than 1 meter apart, ensuring enough distance between customers. However, I was a bit concerned that the hand sanitizer was hard to find, and chopsticks and seasonings were already placed on the table where others could touch them freely. As it approached noon, more customers started to come in. It seemed like many of them were salaried workers from nearby major companies. I ordered the fried chicken set meal for 1300 yen (tax included). You can have unlimited refills of spicy cod roe and rice. The fried chicken had a thin coating with a strong flavor of onion soy sauce. It was juicy and delicious when you bite into it. The spicy cod roe was not too spicy, so I generously topped my rice with it and enjoyed it with the fried chicken. Of course, I had a refill of the spicy cod roe. It was a blissful moment. The pickled Chinese cabbage and boiled vegetables were light in flavor. The miso soup had a gentle and pleasant taste. The taste and portion were good, but I felt that the pricing was a bit high unless you have a refill of the spicy cod roe. It's a good place for young customers with a hearty appetite to satisfy their hunger with extra rice and spicy cod roe.

I lined up at the Shinagawa store before noon. There were a few salarymen, but we were seated quickly. I feel like I need to eat the karaage here at least once every few months or I'll have withdrawal symptoms. It might not be the traditional way, but the chicken karaage dipped in mentaiko sauce is addicting. The flavor and spiciness are irresistible. During lunchtime, you can have unlimited refills of white rice, mentaiko, and takana, so I always end up gaining about 1kg after eating here. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, and the personal space is spacious, so I always leave satisfied whenever I come. There are several lunch menu options, but I always end up choosing the karaage set! It takes a bit of time for the food to come out, but when it does, it's freshly fried and satisfying. Even though the karaage is already filling, the unlimited mentaiko in front of me makes me eat more and more rice than usual. I was very satisfied with the unique taste of the chicken karaage. When I left the restaurant, there was already a line of people waiting to get in.

I stopped by Yamaya for lunch, which is always crowded with long lines, but due to the impact of the coronavirus, the number of people had calmed down. The inside of the restaurant was arranged with proper spacing and had good air circulation with fans running, creating a very calming atmosphere. I ordered the simmered chicken and vegetables (Chikuzen-ni) set meal. The Chikuzen-ni had a refined dashi flavor that soaked into the vegetables and chicken, making it very delicious! The mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and takana (pickled mustard greens) that were always on the table were now served in small dishes for unlimited refills. You could easily eat multiple bowls of rice until you were full. The price was 1,182 yen before tax, not exactly a one-coin or single bill payment, but with this volume and the fact that you can have unlimited mentaiko and takana at Yamaya, I was personally very satisfied!

It's a short walk from Shinagawa Station to Minamiguchi. I arrived during lunchtime on a weekday and there were a few salarymen waiting in line. This time, I had the fried chicken set meal. All set meals come with unlimited servings of mentaiko and more! The rice was so delicious and I couldn't stop eating. Thank you for the meal!

I had some business at Shinagawa Station and was looking for a place to have lunch, so I decided to try this place. I had always wanted to try Yamaya. I had the fried chicken with spicy cod roe flavor. The all-you-can-eat spicy cod roe was much appreciated! Three servings of spicy cod roe was enough. It was delicious!

It's a bit pricey, isn't it? Rice refills are free. Mentaiko and takana are all-you-can-eat. I can't stop eating rice ^ ^ The mentaiko is easy to eat because it's not too spicy. Yeah. I went there at lunchtime today. This is my second time, or rather, it's been three years. When I arrived in front of the store before 11:30, I saw that the menu prices have gone up. In 2016, it was around ¥1000 including tax, but now it's over ¥1200 depending on the item. Looking at the menu, I saw that the items marked with an "X" were unavailable due to the oven being broken, including hamburgers and grilled fish. So I decided to go with the "Fried Chicken with Spicy Cod Roe Flavor Set Meal" for ¥1280 including tax. You can still eat as much cod roe as you like, just like before. I paid at the front before entering the store and my order was confirmed. Since I was alone, I was seated at the counter near the entrance, and after waiting for about 6-7 minutes, my meal was ready. In front of me, there were mustard pickles and spicy cod roe placed on a small plate. I left the mustard pickles aside and piled the spicy cod roe generously on top of the rice - a luxurious serving in terms of quantity! The fried chicken was okay, but I was more than satisfied with the spicy cod roe rice. The menu doesn't offer just spicy cod roe rice, so I started eating, stuffing my mouth with a perfect 1:1 ratio of rice and cod roe - delicious! It's something I can't do at home, so it's worth it. The fried chicken, which was more like a side dish, was tasty, but the volume felt unnecessary - the focus was on the spicy cod roe rice. I progressed smoothly with the spicy cod roe rice, finished my first bowl, and decided to get a refill. I hesitated, but ended up getting a refill. Since I asked for half the amount of rice, the thickness of the spicy cod roe increased due to the lower amount of rice - I felt concerned about the salt content. But it was too late to worry about it. I also finished the fried chicken and left the restaurant with a full stomach, even though I was feeling a bit uncomfortable. All that's left is to catch the train to my destination. I probably won't feel like eating cod roe for a while...

Popular Hakata cuisine restaurant (average ★3.38) that is always crowded and I was turned away before, but I was able to get in on Monday at 6pm. ◆The appetizer is cherry blossom horse sashimi, which is luxurious. The horse sashimi is tender and delicious. ◆Lager beer in a 500ml bottle, the glass was not chilled and no angel ring. That's disappointing. ◆Freshly made mentaiko, the most popular dish. Spicy with a fun chewy texture, goes well with beer and delicious. The saltiness is nice. ◆Mentaiko rice ball, the seaweed is peeling off. The amount of filling is small. The rice is barely edible. ◆Chicken rice ball, the chicken meat is soft and delicious. ───────────── Total 2,602 yen (including tax, per person) ~Impressions~ All seats are smoking, and the menu is listed without tax. The counter is a calm place to drink. I'm glad I was able to try it out as I was curious about it.
