I used it to purchase a station bento to enjoy on the Shinkansen. While there are several attractive shops in Ekiute that sell bento, this one seems to be the one that handles bento from multiple companies including Sakai Kyoken. This time, I purchased a 900 yen chestnut rice bento from another company, and it was quite good.

On this day, my family went on a trip to Oarai. We bought bento boxes at the station before boarding the limited express train at Shinagawa Station. I chose a sandwich from Ofunaken (530 yen including tax), my father chose a karaage bento from Oozou (1,000 yen including tax), and my mother chose a chicken bento (900 yen including tax). The Ofunaken sandwich had two flavors of ham and cheese to enjoy. The sandwich bread was moist and soft. The ham had a strong mustard flavor, while the cheese had a rich margarine taste. It's a Kanagawa specialty, and it was my first time trying it. Thank you for the meal!

For dinner on this day, due to various reasons, I purchased a station bento box from a JR Cross store inside Shinagawa Station. I bought the "Tabi wa High Collar Karaage Bento" for 1000 yen and a can of Suntory's Highball. I don't usually buy station bento boxes except for the Chicken Bento, but I was drawn to the advertisement featuring Haruka Igawa and the 50 yen discount for purchasing the canned Highball at the same time. The bento box itself is a standard one supervised by the Japan Karaage Association. It seems that during the campaign period, the part of the package that says "Supervised by the Japan Karaage Association" has been replaced with "Recommended by Suntory Highball" and the product name includes "Tabi wa High Collar." The contents of the bento box I ate at home included two pieces of katsuobushi-flavored and yuzu pepper-flavored karaage, seasoned egg, dried daikon radish salad, and kombu tsukudani. Each karaage was soft and surprisingly delicious. Despite the time that has passed since it was made, there was no noticeable deterioration in taste. Overall, it was a reasonably tasty station bento. According to recent announcements, Nihon Bashidai Zou and Ofuneken will be merged into JR Cross's station bento division in April next year, and the functions of the Odai Factory of Omasu and the Ofuneken Factory will be gradually transferred to the Toda Factory of JR Cross. I am worried that the diversity of station bento boxes will be further lost in the name of efficiency.

When I ride the Shinkansen, I always end up buying a bento. It's fun to ponder which one to choose. After much deliberation, this time I went with the pressed sushi with kinmedai. Once on the train and moving, I open the package. Since it's still morning, I held off on the beer. The fatty kinmedai was delicious. But bento boxes keep getting more and more expensive, don't they?

After returning from a business trip, I purchased gin soda, beer, and snacks in Shinagawa Station. I had a solo party on the Shinkansen. Although the COVID restrictions have been lifted, I will enjoy quietly. The Fukagawa Meshi clams were large and chewy, cooked to perfection. They were the perfect accompaniment. I will definitely buy them again.

Hello, this is Hanedaman! Today, I had to take care of something right after work and had to travel by train, so I decided to boldly buy a station bento and eat it in the Green Car! Since I was traveling on a local line, I couldn't use the Shinkansen gates, so I bought it at this bento shop inside the JR gates! It's located near the platforms for the Tokaido Line and Ueno-Tokyo Line, so it's very easy to find! I was quite indecisive about what to buy, but I ended up choosing the chicken bento that has been around since I was a child! It was my first time pairing it with beer, and I found that even though it looks cute, this bento is actually made to go really well with alcohol! The fried chicken, smoked cheese, chicken rice, and scrambled eggs all complement the beer perfectly, and it was fun to mix and match while eating! I had a great time eating and drinking one can of beer, and before I knew it, I had arrived at my destination! It's nice to do something like this once in a while!

Today marks the start of my trip to Nara. I had to cancel my plans back in June, so this trip is truly a dream come true. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Shinkansen train I wanted, so I'll be taking a later one than usual. I thought about having lunch in Kyoto, where I'll transfer, but I'm not familiar with the area, so I decided to have a bento box on the train instead. I checked out the options at Shinagawa Station's ecute, but nothing caught my eye... There are some small shops selling bento boxes inside the Shinkansen gates, so I decided to take a look. I ended up choosing the Tori Zanmai bento box. It had seasoned rice and tsukune (chicken meatballs), which sounded good to me. My daughter wasn't impressed and bought a katsu sandwich from somewhere else. The Tori Zanmai bento box was just the right size, and the flavor was quite universal, so I'm glad I went with this choice.

I visited "Ekiben-ya Shinagawa-shuku" in Shinagawa Station around 11 am on a holiday in October 2020. The variety of ekiben at Shinagawa-shuku is not extensive. I purchased the "Fukagawa-meshi" for ¥900, which I remember eating a long time ago. I decided to take it back to the office to eat. The Fukagawa-meshi is a long, rectangular ekiben with an anago (conger eel) placed in the center. Made with clams, leeks, and burdock, the Fukagawa-meshi has a perfectly balanced flavor. The anago is soft and has a good texture. The ekiben is well-seasoned and delicious. It also comes with a small side of simmered dish and tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette), which is a nice touch. The Fukagawa-meshi goes well with beer and is enjoyable to eat. The blue leeks in the Fukagawa-meshi add a nice accent. The ekiben is well-prepared with small touches that enhance the taste. Although the price of ¥900 may seem a bit high, the consistent high quality is excellent. "Ekiben-ya Shinagawa-shuku" is a popular place to buy ekiben at Shinagawa Station. I hope they will expand their variety in the future.

Before boarding the Shinkansen for a trip to Kyoto, I bought an ekiben at Shinagawa Station. The Matsutake Mushroom Rice Bento costs 1512 yen and comes in a two-tiered box. The bottom tier contains Matsutake mushroom rice, which is quite delicious, while the top tier has a variety of side dishes including salmon and tamagoyaki. The flavors are typical of Tokyo cuisine and overall, it is quite tasty.

When returning to Ibaraki, I bought a station bento at "Ekibenya Shinagawa-eki"! I purchased the "Beef Bento" from Tokyo on this day! I also enjoyed it with my favorite highball in the Green Car. The contents included beef sukiyaki, beef soboro, seasoned egg, simmered onions, simmered carrots, and pickled vegetables. The sweetness of the sauce and the texture of the beef were irresistible. And the seasoned egg was delicious to bite into. After all, the Joban Line on the way home from work is best enjoyed with alcohol and station bento. Thank you for the meal!

This time, I took a walk around the area near Keikyu Kitashinagawa, visited Isshin-ji Temple and Shinagawa Shrine. At Shinagawa Station, I usually spend a lot of time selecting a bento box in front of the bento shop, but this time I decided to purchase Shinagawa Bento and Makunouchi Bento that I had been interested in before. Both are made by Ofuna-ken and are priced at around 1000 yen, which is reasonable. The staff that day was an elderly man, but he worked efficiently and I paid with my transportation card. However, I forgot to ask for a receipt... Do they not give it unless you ask? They also don't provide ice packs as a service. The Shinagawa Bento includes white rice topped with shirasu (baby sardines) and sakura shrimp, nori, vegetables, potato salad, fried food, tamagoyaki, kamaboko, and anago (conger eel)? It's a variety of flavors to enjoy. The seasoning is simple and mild, so you can enjoy it without getting too excited. Even though it's not luxurious or extravagant, eating a bento box somehow makes you feel like you're on a train journey. It's like the feeling you get when you taste something sour from a pickled plum. Are you in a drinking mood at home? If it had included Shinagawa negi (green onion) or Shinagawa kabu (turnip) that were popular in the Edo period, you might have been able to fully enjoy the historical atmosphere. With a good selection of bento boxes, a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, and easy purchasing, I would like to use this bento shop again. That's all.

Meat, fish, vegetables, and other essential side dishes are lined up inside the station bento. Each dish is seasoned with a good balance of flavors, making the bento overall very well put together. Truly a longstanding station bento shop. With a 120-year history, they are not messing around. This time, I decided to buy a station bento at Shinagawa Station for my business trip from Nagoya to Osaka. Since it was early morning and Ecute was not open, I ended up buying a bento at a station bento shop. I casually looked around the display case and purchased the "Station Bento Makunouchi" that looked good! I bought tea from a vending machine and off to Nagoya! This station bento is manufactured by Ofuna-ken, a super long-established company with a 120-year history in station bento. It seems that the initial station bento was just rice balls. It's amazing that such a long-standing company still sells cheap station bento. I confirmed that no one was sitting in the adjacent seat at Shin-Yokohama. The wrapping paper design is a mix of black and straw-colored washi paper, giving off a Japanese-style vibe. The black part is seaweed, the brown part is mixed rice, and the red circle is a design that enhances the abundance of pickled plums. It's a well-thought-out design when you look closely. Now, it's time to open it up! When I peeled off the wooden grain lid under the wrapping paper, a variety of colorful side dishes appeared. It's not overly flashy, but the small dishes of meat, fish, and simmered dishes are nicely put together. The simmered burdock, meatballs, and egg are subtly sweet and salty, with a hint of sweetness. The egg has a subtle sweetness. The pickled plum provides a sour accent, keeping your taste buds interested. The salmon and shrimp fry are seasoned simply. However, when you look at the overall picture, each dish has a moderate balance of flavors and no strange claims. It has turned into a very well-balanced and delicious station bento. Truly a station bento shop with a 129-year history, Ofuna-ken. If you're ever unsure of what to eat, I highly recommend the "Station Bento Makunouchi".

In October 2019, before returning home from Shinagawa Station on the Shinkansen, I decided to buy a bento box at "Ekibenya Shinagawa-eki" . There were many options to choose from, but since I was in Shinagawa, I chose the "Shinagawa Bento" for 1150 yen (tax included). I brought it home and the contents of the bento included: shirasu rice with sakura shrimp, fish cake, rolled omelette, simmered tofu and vegetables, whale cutlet, Kamakura ham potato salad, clams simmered in sauce, pork fillet with aromatic flavor, rice with seaweed, and simmered conger eel. The bento is packed with ingredients related to Shinagawa and Edo-style cuisine. It was delicious with many of my favorite items like simmered conger eel, shirasu rice, and whale cutlet. Thank you for the meal!

On the second day of my Tokyo foodie trip in autumn, I had lunch in Hiroo, got some morning bread, and arrived at Shinagawa Station at 15:15. I have gotten off at Shinagawa before, but this is my first time returning to Osaka from Shinagawa Station. To make it easier when I get back, I decided to have a "station lunch" for dinner. I got the following all inclusive of tax: Shirasu Bento for 1,080 yen and Fukagawa Meshi for 900 yen. I arrived home before 7 pm and only made miso soup with seaweed. The "Shirasu Bento" is one of the station lunches made by Ofunekan in Kamakura. It has plenty of domestically produced whitebait lightly fried in sesame oil to add flavor to the rice. It also includes cherry shrimp, soy sauce-marinated salmon roe, and plenty of seaweed in the middle, giving it a rich flavor. The side dishes include simmered vegetables (carrots, bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, and dried tofu) and pickles. It was a delicious bento that tasted great even when cold. The "Fukagawa Meshi" that I bought on my last trip to Tokyo is a local dish from Tokyo made with clams harvested in Edo's Fukagawa area. It consists of clams and burdock simmered in ginger soy sauce, served on top of rice with two pieces of seasoned conger eel on top of black seaweed, and boiled baby leeks. The side dishes include rolled omelet, simmered konjac, simmered carrots, green beans, small eggplant pickles, and pickled daikon. The overall taste is slightly strong, and even when cold, it is a delicious station lunch. I warmed it up lightly in the microwave. On the way back, I was able to see Mount Fuji at dusk from the Shinkansen window. And with that, my "Autumn Tokyo Foodie Trip" has come to an end. I indulged in food from Osaka to Edo. Although my work is getting busy and I have no travel plans for a while, my foodie adventures in Osaka will continue. Bon appétit! (●^o^●)

I researched for a bento box at Tokyo Station for my business trip. Tokyo Station is known for being expensive, both inside and outside, so I was considering getting something from a convenience store. However, I came across a Yokohama Pilaf Bento from Sakurayokan at Tokyo Station for a surprisingly low price of 660 yen. I decided to buy it and tried it on the Shinkansen. It had a western style taste with a flavorful consomme and pepper. It was delicious, and it even came with 2 pieces of shumai, making it a good deal. I think it's better than a fried rice bento. I would definitely buy it again. Thank you for the meal.

When riding the Shinkansen, I always decide to go with Fukagawa Meshi. But on this day, it was sold out. So I went with my second choice, the shumai bento. That was also sold out. That's when I tried the Kaizukuri for the first time. It's a specialty of Shinagawa. As we passed by Shin-Yokohama, I realized that the dish was full of shellfish on top of rice. While there were side dishes, it was mostly shellfish simmered in soy sauce, which made the taste a bit overwhelming and salty. I learned the depth of Fukagawa Meshi's flavors.

This season, I bought an 18-kippu for the first time in a while and decided to take a leisurely trip on local trains. I arrived at Shinagawa Station in the morning and bought a chicken bento there before starting my journey north on the Joban Line Green Car. I started eating the bento around the time we left the city. The fried chicken with a generous amount of breading paired with tomato-flavored ketchup rice is something I occasionally crave. Shinagawa Station has a variety of options including not only Shinkansen but also limited express trains, making it a convenient place to grab a meal before boarding.

Shinkansen train meal: Today I thought about trying a different bento, but ended up getting the Torimeshi bento again. Congratulations to myself! The rice is delicious even when cold, made with sticky rice and topped with minced chicken and egg. There are chicken meatballs, teriyaki chicken, and I added some fried chicken too. Today's lunch was all about chicken. Of course, I finished it all before reaching Shin-Yokohama station!

Shinagawa Station, past Ekiute and just before the Shinkansen platform on the right, there is a bento shop called Ofunaken. Next to it is Sakurakoen. I was told about the first bento sandwich in Japan. The ham sandwich with Kamakura ham has 4 slices, and the cheese sandwich has 2 slices. The taste is really good! It has a traditional feel to it. The ham sandwich is spread with mustard and comes in a box, giving it a slightly luxurious feel. I had it for breakfast on the Shinkansen today, but it's also perfect for a light snack when you're a little hungry.

I enjoyed the crab, salmon roe, and scallop bento with a generous portion. The rice is filling and the meal is not greasy, making it suitable for those who don't like oily bentos. I'm glad I chose this bento as I don't like salmon flakes.
