I'm the only one who craves tempura for lunch before a big meeting, right? I just found out for the first time that "Tsunaha" and "Shinjuku Tsunaha" are different, even though they used to be the same over 40 years ago. The variety may be a bit limited, but each piece of sushi is large and satisfying enough for lunch in my opinion.

The underground floor seems to be a hidden gem. While some of the shops on the first floor were quite crowded, the basement floor was empty. #Shinagawa #Tempura #Wakayu #Plum shiso tempura #Sea bream #Asparagus #Cheese #Egg #Squid #Shrimp #Tempura bowl #Highball #Lunch

Today is the day to take my mother to the hospital. But before that, we had a tempura lunch at Tatsunoya in Wing Takanawa. The prices are reasonable and the quality is solid. It's a great restaurant. I don't usually go to chain restaurants, but I really like this place. Since my mother has a small appetite, I opted for the lightest lunch set A (1280 yen). It's amazing that you get such a substantial meal at such a low price! The set included shrimp, squid, pumpkin, eggplant, bell pepper, and small shrimp tempura. I forgot to take a picture of the later plate with bell pepper and small shrimp tempura. I ended up eating my mother's portion and two plates in total (laughs). The tempura batter was crispy and crunchy in some parts. The shrimp were a bit small, but since it's tempura, it wasn't a problem. It's really great to get this much food at such a low price. The portion size was just right. I ended up feeling quite full after eating my mother's leftover portion as well. The table next to us had a group of women in suits, and there were also a few solo diners in business attire. It's a casual and reliable tempura restaurant where you can eat comfortably.

At 4:00 pm, I had a late lunch. I ordered tempura with shrimp, taranome (buds of the Japanese angelica tree), nanohana (rape blossoms), renkon (lotus root), eggplant, and dried shrimp. I forgot to take a photo of the tempura alone. This place specializes in tempura, so when you sit at the counter, they serve you freshly fried tempura right in front of you. It's not a super fancy place, but the prices are reasonable and the food is good. The taranome this spring was delicious, especially with a highball. I skipped the rice at the end and just had a tasty miso soup. I passed by a standing soba place earlier, but I'm glad I held out until now. Thank you for the meal.

※Please note that this story is from September last year, 2022. I went to Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa in Shinagawa. Simply put, it's an aquarium. I ended up taking a lot of photos of jellyfish for some reason. And a few penguins too... There were many other animals displayed in various ways that day. I was planning to have lunch somewhere inside Wing Takanawa... I still had some Keikyu Department Store vouchers left, so I wanted to use them. I looked around inside Wing Takanawa, and everywhere was crowded with people waiting, except for Tenpura Tsunahachi. It was lunchtime, I think. We were able to get in easily, had our meal, and by the time we left, the seats were all filled. I can't remember if there were people waiting in line outside the restaurant.

Just a short walk from Shinagawa Station, there is a tempura restaurant inside Wing. Despite the gloomy weather, I was surprised to see quite a crowd. I went for lunch and chose the tendon. The freshly fried tempura with sweet sauce was delicious. There was more tempura than I had imagined, and personally, I was satisfied with the portion size. It might be a bit much for those with smaller appetites. Located in the office-packed Shinagawa area, it's a great spot for a salaryman's lunch.

The area around Shinagawa Station is usually crowded and expensive, so I usually avoid eating there. However, I found a delicious and reasonably priced restaurant. When I placed my order, I was asked if I wanted extra rice, and the bowl I received was huge. I sat at the counter and the tempura was fried after I ordered, so it was hot, crispy, and juicy. It's a casual place, so I would definitely like to visit again in the future.

Tempura chain restaurant called "Tsunahachi". I stopped by as I wanted to eat delicious tempura. The interior of the store is not very spacious as it is a tenant shop, but it is well-maintained. I ordered a tempura bowl with shrimp and squid, priced at a slightly high 1,300 yen. The taste is stable and delicious, typical of a chain restaurant. However, the squid was a bit too soft for my liking. Overall, it was neither good nor bad. I think it's a convenient place to eat delicious tempura when you want to.

During Shinagawa Week, for some reason I was in the mood for tempura from the morning. I remembered there was a tempura shop inside Wing Takanawa, so I decided to visit Tsunahachi. Tsunahachi is known for being established around 100 years ago and for being the first to offer ice cream tempura. I felt like having a hearty tempura meal, so I treated myself to the Lunch Tempura Set (2,200 yen including tax). The set included 2 prawns, squid, needlefish, 4 types of vegetables (green pepper, eggplant, shiitake mushroom, pumpkin), conger eel, and small shrimp tempura. The prawns and green peppers came out first, followed by the rest. Only tempura dipping sauce was provided on the counter, and it seemed that salt would not be served unless requested. The prawns were a bit small and the batter was quite thick, not as crispy as I expected. Honestly, none of the tempura was to my liking. The conger eel had a slightly fishy smell. You can see the kitchen from the counter, and it was quite messy and disorganized. I later found out that this Tsunahachi branch is not listed on the website of the Tsunahachi in Shinjuku. I'm not sure about the details, but it seems like this branch is operated separately. It's quite different from the image of Tsunahachi in Shinjuku. Thank you for the meal.

Shinagawa Station, Takanawa exit, 1-minute walk. Cross the big intersection towards the Prince Hotel, and you'll find a dining area underground. The original store is in Shinjuku, boasting a history of about 100 years. Now, with more branches, it is famous for offering tempura at affordable prices. This time, I had the Ebi-Tenju for ¥1,750. When you open the box, you'll see so many shrimp tempura that you can't even see the rice underneath. The contrast between the moist and crispy parts, with the sauce, is great. I enjoyed biting into the shrimp tempura and mixing it with the sauce-soaked rice, along with miso soup and pickles. I finished it in no time as the service was quick, and I was out within 15 minutes. In times like these, being able to eat quickly and leave promptly is a good thing. Thank you for the meal.

I went to this restaurant a while back and wondered why I went there, but it turns out my wife got vaccinated around here through her workplace and we had a meal together afterwards. Sorry for the personal story. And I was surprised to find out they only served non-alcoholic beer at the time because alcohol was prohibited. It's funny how you forget about these things after a year. Anyway, I ordered the tempura set meal. It's not as fun to order without alcohol, but the tempura was crispy and decent. I hope next time I can enjoy some sake with my meal.

The difference between just "Tempura Tsunahachi" and "Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi" was not clear to me. Both versions of the tempura bowl had a similar impression with a slightly sweet and light sauce. However, this place had a more rustic and pleasantly rough atmosphere. The restaurant "Tempura Tsunahachi" is located near Shinagawa Station, right across the pedestrian crossing from the west exit, and it is situated underground at the Wing Takanawa building. I opted for the "Squid and Shrimp Tempura Bowl" which had large pieces of squid, medium-sized shrimp, onion, dried shrimp tempura, green pepper, and pumpkin. The tempura was covered with a lid to steam and soften the batter before eating. The slightly sweet sauce gradually blended well with the rice, creating a good balance. The addition of dried shrimp tempura in the bowl added an interesting texture and flavor. Overall, I found the tempura bowl satisfying, especially considering the affordable price of 1,230 yen. This place has a light and easy-going atmosphere, which I enjoyed.

I entered as soon as the store opened at 11 a.m. and there was no wait. I was seated at the counter and ordered the Tempura Set A for 1200 yen. The tempura consisted of about 7 different kinds and was freshly fried on the spot. However, I was disappointed by the thick batter on the fish, shrimp, and green pepper tempura. The mixed tempura, eggplant, and pumpkin were crispy and delicious, but the dipping sauce was a bit weak. I had to ask for salt separately, which was a letdown in terms of service. The tea was not refilled even when it ran out, and the staff at the back were chatting instead of attending to customers. I was disappointed by the quality of service and taste, despite the generous portion size. I was surprised to find out later that I could have gotten a free ice cream tempura with a coupon. I wonder why this place has such high ratings when my experience was underwhelming. If you plan to visit, maybe try using the coupon for the ice cream tempura?

*Lunch Visit* (Food) Lunch Tempura Set B @ 1,090 yen! Tempura 1: Shrimp, smelt, squid, green pepper Rice, miso soup, pickles Shrimp is good, but I love the smelt tempura! Tempura 2: Conger eel, small shrimp tempura I had the tempura on top of rice to make a tempura rice bowl. (Ambiance & Service) The restaurant has both counter seats and table seats. This time, I sat at the counter and enjoyed freshly fried tempura while watching the chef at work. (Overall) Enjoying a luxurious tempura lunch in Shinagawa! I am happy to have my favorite tempura ingredients. Eating tempura freshly fried on the spot is the best!

Located in the Shinagawa Wing dining area, this restaurant is mainly focused on Japanese cuisine. The prices are slightly higher compared to other eateries, even during lunchtime. Being situated underground, it was a peaceful dining experience without the usual crowds. The tempura had a generous portion size, filling me up nicely.

During a company event in Shinagawa three years ago, we had lunch at "Tsuna Hachi." This time, we decided to go straight to the restaurant after the morning program ended. While they had a tempura set for lunch, I opted for the seasonal "Shrimp and Winter Vegetable Tempura Set" as I didn't want the same as last time. The second round brought out tempura featuring "Shiitake mushrooms" and "Onion and Dried Shrimp Tempura," making for a luxurious tempura set. We also got to enjoy "Ice Cream Tempura" with a coupon from Tabelog, leaving us feeling very satisfied.

On Sunday afternoon, I casually went alone and was able to get in without any trouble, but it was quite crowded. It seems like reservations are necessary for large groups. The entrance area may seem quiet, but customers keep coming in one after another. There are mostly older people, but young couples and solo men at the counter also come in. It's bustling during the early afternoon.
I haven't had tempura in a while, so I wanted to have a proper tempura meal. I chose Lunch B because it had the variety I wanted - no smelt in Lunch A and 2 shrimp in Lunch C. I also added oysters for an extra 550 yen for two. I also wanted a drink, so I had two glasses of Prosecco. It was good and went well with the tempura. The oyster tempura was plump and delicious, and the tempura in the lunch set was also good. I especially liked the small shrimp tempura, which was crispy and tasty. The miso soup with seaweed was a nice touch too. Overall, everything was delicious, but the small shrimp tempura stood out the most to me today.

◆Shinagawa Tempura Tsunahachi◆During Golden Week, I visited Shinagawa Tempura Tsunahachi. Coming back from a trip abroad, I was craving Japanese food. Even at night, they have quite affordable menu options. I ordered the tempura set meal for 1,750 yen. The rice was delicious. (Maybe because I just came back from overseas, it tasted even better.) Also, they offer free rice refills, so of course, I had seconds. The tempura was good enough considering the price. The staff were friendly too. I will definitely visit again.

I usually go to Tsuna Hachi in Shinagawa Intercity, but it's a hassle to get there from Keikyu. So, I decided to try Tsuna Hachi in Shinagawa Wing. They have a lunch set with sashimi of horse mackerel and tempura, which I was looking forward to. They don't have it at Intercity. When I tried to order it, they said they didn't have horse mackerel in stock (T_T). I ended up getting the oyster set instead. It was delicious, but it made me feel a bit heavy. Also, the ventilation in this restaurant is not that great, so my suit ends up smelling like grease. A bit disappointing (T_T).

The tempura set meal with plenty of shrimp, anago, and kakiage is priced at a reasonable ¥1,800. Served in multiple portions at the table, so you can enjoy it hot. There are many items so you will feel satisfied. For those with small appetites, you can choose tempura a la carte with just rice. In addition to tempura, there are also appetizers available, making it suitable for drinking as well. It is conveniently located near Shinagawa Station. There are counter seats and table seats, so it is suitable for both individuals and groups. The table seats can accommodate up to 4 people comfortably. It's convenient and easy to enjoy freshly fried tempura. On Saturday night, the restaurant was always full. The staff were working hard, but the service was a bit slow. The conversations between the cooks at the frying station were a bit preachy and distracting. There are condiments like tempura dipping sauce, salt, and curry salt on the table. Personally, the tempura batter didn't sit well with me, and I ended up feeling heartburn from the anago towards the end. The last kakiage was a bit overcooked and tough in some parts. There are probably multiple fryers, so it might have been just a one-off, but it was disappointing.
