Today, I went to explore a new ramen shop, but it was my fourth visit and it was closed at 1 pm, even though I usually research and have a backup plan in mind. Today, however, I didn't have any preparations and there was another ramen shop along Showa Street. I searched around but couldn't find it (misjudged the block). It turned out to be a beef cutlet shop. I've lost my motivation to search further. I love meat, but tonkatsu is always made with pork, not beef. I'm not used to that in the Kanto region. However, in terms of my preference for meat as a carnivore, it goes like this: 1. Beef, 2. Pork, 3. Chicken. When it comes to grilling, tonkatsu is always made with pork. Trying out new dishes can expand your repertoire, which is great. The menu includes: Black Wagyu sirloin beef set - 150g for 2550 yen, 100g for 1850 yen, 200g for 3190 yen. Aonami set - 150g for 1600 yen, 100g for 1100 yen, 200g for 2070 yen. It comes with rice, salad, and soup. The Black Wagyu beef is of A4 grade or higher, which seems safer than the A5 grade that I usually avoid. They seem to recommend the 150g portion to regular customers. I decided to go for the 200g portion after debating, as I've been holding back for 20 years. The shop is quite narrow, especially the counter seats. I didn't notice it at first because the seat next to me was empty, but it's tight. I ordered without realizing how cramped it was. The dish arrived after 8 minutes. The Aonami set 200g portion is not bad at all. It's not one thick piece of meat as I thought, but three 50g pieces, making it a total of 150g. The meat is rare and red, but I forgot that I don't like it too rare. The quantity is 200g, but the meat flavor is lacking. It lacks depth in flavor, so it feels like eating the same thing repeatedly. The lack of flavor variety is disappointing. Some pickles would have been helpful, even just a little bit. I'm not a fan of the taste of beef. I should have gone for pork instead. Maybe that's why people in the Kanto region prefer pork. Miso soup was lukewarm, maybe it got cold. I don't eat raw vegetables, so no flavor change for me. I'm getting tired of it. I mistakenly ordered the 200g portion instead of the 150g portion. I overlooked the 150g portion in between! I knew it. It's a common occurrence lately, my brain is acting up. I'm feeling a bit disappointed. The raw vegetables will end up as food waste. Overall, this visit was a reminder to follow the rule of "first visit, trial, small portion". This is Gossan, not used to beef cutlets, not accustomed to the taste of beef itself, it's necessary. The price of beef is going up, so it's a bit expensive.
