TACKNMON
Today is the Doll's Festival, which falls on March 3rd in the old calendar, equivalent to early March to mid-April in the current calendar. It is known as the Peach Festival because it is the season when peach blossoms bloom in the spring. I love eating peaches, but I don't think I've ever seen peach blossoms before. Now, let's talk about today's restaurant review.
Today's pick is Fukushoan, located about a 4-minute walk from Daikanyama Station in Tokyo. It's tucked away off Hachiman Street, in a spot with good airflow and sunlight, where a delicious soba restaurant awaits. I visited during lunchtime on a weekday, without any prior information, just stumbled upon it while exploring. The interior has a nostalgic Showa era feel, making you feel like you've traveled back in time. It's cozy and clean, with a TV in the corner. It's a unique blend of nostalgia that doesn't quite fit the typical Daikanyama vibe. The place was almost full during lunchtime, with some customers waiting. Clearly a popular spot. The food display outside also adds to the nostalgic vibe, almost feeling like a Hinamatsuri display.
The atmosphere and extensive menu options make it a favorite spot for me. Today, I ordered the Eel Bowl Set (with a large serving of soba) for 1300 yen. The set menu offers a variety of choices between soba and udon, with the option to add a large serving for an extra 100 yen. The dish arrived in about 10 minutes. It had a good portion size. The soba was nice and easy to eat, with a homemade feel to it. The color was pale, but the taste was decent. I should have asked about the soba percentage. The homemade broth was quite tasty, matching my preferences.
Moving on to the eel bowl, it wasn't particularly large but was plump and aromatic. The first bite was delicious, with a generous amount of sauce on the rice. However, the rice seemed a bit small and soft, which was a bit disappointing since rice is important. The side pickles were a nice touch. I finished off with some soba broth.
Overall, I'm excited to have found another great soba restaurant. It has a nostalgic charm and a calming atmosphere. The service was also pleasant. The neighboring customer's Nabe Yaki Udon looked tempting, so I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. Thank you for the meal. It's TakuMon signing off. Cheers!
