KINTAN, a yakiniku chain expanding in the heart of the city. I originally planned to visit "Yasaimura Daichi" in Akasaka, but it seemed like their lunch service had ended, so I ended up here instead. Upon entering, I was seated at the counter facing the open kitchen. There, I saw large chunks of meat being prepared, which I found impressive, but if you're not a fan, it's best to let the staff know early on to change seats. Each KINTAN branch seems to have its own unique lunch menu, and this week at the Akasaka branch, I chose the "All-You-Can-Eat Curry Lunch Set" (1,480 yen). I confirmed with the staff that the amount of meat for this set was 150g compared to the 160g in the regular KINTAN Yakiniku Set (1,380 yen), meaning you pay 100 yen for 10g of meat and unlimited curry. I also upgraded my salad to a Caesar salad using a coupon from the restaurant's app. After ordering, the yakiniku, curry, rice, soup, kimchi, and namul were served within 5 minutes. At this point, for a 1,500 yen lunch, it was already exceeding expectations, and with the Caesar salad and dessert included, it was a great deal. Now onto the yakiniku. The meat was already marinated, so it was flavorful. The grill was set to low heat, but the surface quickly charred, so it's best to cook it quickly. The beef tongue was thin but had a nice chewiness, giving a great beef tongue experience (for those not used to eating beef tongue at yakiniku restaurants). The kalbi was also thin but had a good amount of fat, resulting in a juicy and delicious flavor when grilled to perfection. The Platinum Pork and Seiryu Chicken were also tasty. Next was the all-you-can-eat curry. It was Green Thai Curry and was spicier than expected, making it enjoyable with the rice. I ended up getting seconds of both the rice and curry. The soup was a Korean jjigae, also with a spicy kick. It was full of ingredients and paired well with the curry. Just then, the upgraded Caesar salad arrived. It was fresh and well-dressed with Caesar dressing. It was a generous portion for 2-3 people, and although the staff kindly offered a regular salad refill, I had to decline due to being full. For dessert, there was strawberry panna cotta, with a simple and enjoyable strawberry milk-like flavor that helped cleanse the palate after the spiciness. I paid with a card, stamped the app, received a candy after the meal, and left the restaurant. The ambiance and service were great, and most importantly, the value for money was exceptional. This is what true charity work looks like.
