When it comes to cost-effective donburi in Ikebukuro, I had been wanting to go for a while but never found the right timing. Today, around 2:00 pm, I suddenly decided to go. I ordered the Lunch Seafood Donburi for 1000 yen (comes with a side dish and miso soup). The interior of the restaurant is a very narrow space with the husband working in the kitchen and the wife serving and managing the tables. The menu is displayed all over the wall, and all the dishes have catchy names. The lunch menu is handed to you on a piece of paper, and the 1000 yen seafood donburi caught my eye, as well as the sashimi set for 1300 yen, but I decided on the donburi! When the donburi arrived, the shrimp tails were sticking out, there were about two clam shells, and the side dish was not so small - it was quite a generous portion. The side dish was a bonito fish simmered in broth with enoki mushrooms, and to my surprise, a large abalone was included. The taste was rich and sweet, a rice dish that would appeal to anyone. Even if the rice portion was a bit deceiving, I felt a strange sense of relief from the first bite. The miso soup had what seemed like watercress, and although it wasn't exactly what I expected, it had a slight fishy taste in the first bite. Depending on the part, there was a bit of a disappointment with the fish bone without much meat, but the broth itself was very delicious, with a rich flavor. And the star of the show, the seafood donburi! Salmon, yellowtail, amberjack, tuna, albacore, shrimp, mussel (suddenly a foreign touch, haha), thick rolled omelette, imitation crab, octopus, and scallops hidden inside the shells. I noticed that the ingredients in each bowl probably vary slightly every day! The scallops were small but firm, the salmon melted in your mouth, and the other ingredients were large and plentiful, with several slices in each bowl. I was wrong to think it was a rice portion scam. The shrimp was sweet and rich. However, I read a few reviews mentioning that the rice was not delicious. The expression "poor rice support" seemed fitting. Perhaps the way it was cooled or stored was not good, as it didn't taste freshly cooked (it's not vinegared rice!). I hope they improve this, as it's a bit sad. Nevertheless, I had a full and happy lunch, and the kind attentiveness of the owner made it a very pleasant time. Thank you for the meal! ✨
