Finally, I made it to Akabane, the place to be!! The place my drinking buddies have been visiting since they got transferred to Tokyo and it has become their regular spot. The cozy little restaurant was packed, but luckily there was one seat available for us. We were greeted with a warm welcome and ordered some drinks to start things off. We ordered the Green Curry Somen and also wanted to try the Thai-style omelette, but got scolded for being too greedy. The food took about 30 minutes to arrive, but the Green Curry Somen was delicious with its spicy kick. We then moved on to try the famous "penis sour" and "vagina sour" cocktails, followed by rounds of tequila shots. We had a blast laughing and drinking, and it was such a happy time. We headed to the next bar while still in high spirits. What a great experience in Akabane! It has a vibe similar to Osaka's Juso area. The people in Tokyo were so friendly and fun, and I have truly come to love Tokyo on this trip. Thank you for the wonderful time!

First visit in April 2017, on the TV show "Sakurai・Ariyoshi THE Night" a manga artist named Kiyono who loves Akabane was guiding the talent Dan Mitsu. The early visit to the restaurant seemed unwelcoming, so we decided to try again later. An hour later, we returned to find other customers inside, but the door was locked! After some hesitation, we were let in, and once inside, we were greeted by Wannida, the Thai owner of the restaurant "Wannida 2." The number 2 signifies that it is the second branch of the now-closed Wannida. The interior was decorated with Thai elements, and Wannida's character was as colorful as expected. We ordered a drink from the unique menu, and it turned out to be a Calpis Sour, catering to Kansai tastes. As we chatted, Wannida started cooking, causing everyone to cough due to the amount of chili she used. Despite the spiciness, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lively. We tried a dish with minced meat on top of somen noodles, which was spicy but tasty. We also ordered a Mango Sour, which turned out to be a hilarious twist on the menu. Wannida's sharp tongue and warm demeanor made for an entertaining dining experience. Despite the intense flavors, we left the restaurant satisfied, feeling like we had discovered a hidden gem in Akabane. Upon a revisit in winter 2019, we had to wait for Wannida to arrive to open the restaurant. Once inside, we enjoyed more spicy and delicious dishes, while also witnessing Wannida's unfiltered comments and interactions with customers. Despite the challenges, the unique charm of the restaurant made us eager to return in the future.

I finally got to visit the famous Mama Wani-da's shop that I wanted to go to. A regular customer took me there. Mama Wani-da was even more powerful than the rumors, and I was in awe. It took courage just to enter the shop, and the door was even locked (laughs). It was a very fun shop in a different dimension.

I read a manga called "Tokyo-to Kita-ku Akabane" and wanted to visit Akabane, so I went there. The owner, Mr. Wanida, was a good-looking man with a sharp tongue but kind to women (laughs). I heard that it's not easy to get in without knowing someone, but when I spoke up, I was able to get in right away. The place isn't very big, with table and counter seats available. Smoking is allowed. We ordered drinks, made a toast, and the appetizers took a while to come out (laughs). It was spicy, maybe Thai food? It went well with beer and soon the place got crowded, with people even standing and drinking. Despite that, customers kept coming in one after another from outside... I realized it was a popular place. The customers I met at Wanida's quickly became friendly and we enjoyed drinking together in this mysterious atmosphere... My friend who came with me got hooked and started going there regularly. By the way, even though we drank quite a bit, there was no sign of a hangover... I wonder if the turmeric that Wanida gave us worked its magic?

I visited the famous WaniDa 2 in Akabane, which is known for its unique atmosphere. It's a Thai cuisine bar run by WaniDa-san. I managed to get in today, despite the rumor that the entrance is locked when WaniDa-san is in a bad mood (lol). I was hoping to hear "Omae nanishini kita!" but instead, I got a simple "Aiteiru tokosu wa tte" (apparently a phrase he used to say when his Japanese wasn't good). A bit disappointing (lol). I did some research and really wanted to try the ◯◯◯ soup. The ◯◯◯ sour and ◯◯◯ juice were interesting choices. The Thai curry appetizer was delicious! Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from Thai cuisine, but it was surprisingly tasty! I also ordered a Tequila Shotgun and a Thai instant ramen. The ramen had a Tom Yum Kung flavor, sour and spicy with a hint of coriander, very delicious! I also had a highball. Although I didn't get to hear WaniDa-san's sharp tongue, the harsh comments from a Nordic-looking regular customer who arrived later were entertaining. It was more fun than watching a bad comedy show (lol). I had a great time experiencing the deep world of Akabane. It was a blast! The rating is lenient (lol). All that's left is to meet with Master Pei-Paa, then I'll have no regrets (lol). Thank you for the meal!!!

I had heard rumors about it, but it is definitely a funky, wild place. The owner, Wanida, is bold and outrageous, making the bar a deep and unique place where she is the star. After deciding on a 4th round in Akabane, we couldn't take the train back and thought about where to spend the morning. Suddenly, we decided to visit Wanida's place, taking a chance even though it seemed intimidating. Despite Wanida saying there was no food, we managed to persuade her to let us in. Looking at the menu, items like "Penis Sour" and "Vagina Juice Split" caught our attention, but we ended up ordering a "Calpis Sour" instead. The appetizer, a Thai stew with a strong coriander aroma, was served. Wanida even brought out some turmeric later on, but the memorable conversations with her overshadowed the drinks. In the morning, we closed the bar and went to a standing soba place with Wanida, creating another good memory. I want to go back and be poisoned by Wanida again.

In the bustling area of Akabane, there is a unique and distinctive restaurant that stands out among the rest. Run by the famous Akabane Beyonce, also known as Wanida, this restaurant in Akabane Iwabuchi has recently relocated near JR Akabane Station and is now named "Wanida 2". It's not a second branch, Wanida herself is here. What makes this place stand out is the entrance door with Wanida's face on it, which is locked. To enter, you have to press a button shaped like a breast next to the door, and Wanida will peek out from inside. If she likes you, she'll unlock the door for you, but if not, it's game over. Wanida's character is even more intense and unique than before, with a menu that includes homemade sausages and curries that are exceptionally delicious. The atmosphere and service depend on Wanida's mood and the chemistry with the customers. It's a thrilling yet calming place to dine, where you never know what to expect. Remember to support and watch over Wanida's restaurant experience, as it's a one-of-a-kind dining adventure.

Wanida Main Store has moved to Akabane Station and changed its name to Wanida 2. The Beyonce look-alike mama (who apparently was at risk of changing her title to "Buyonce" in the past) runs the place by herself. The store was featured in a drama set in Kita-ku Akabane, so it's always bustling with customers lately. The menu has shifted more towards drinks, with interesting options like dried squid. The early hours after opening might be a good time to visit. The food selection has decreased compared to the main store, but the drinks are unique. I can't drink alcohol, so I only know the taste of oolong tea, but the reviews are good. The Thai Green Curry is made from scratch with green curry paste, so it tastes completely different from what you get at other places or from a ready-made pack. The Sai Ua is a very spicy grilled sausage, also handmade like Wanida's dishes, quite stimulating. The Khao Man Gai is a menu item that Wanida makes when she feels like it, with a delicious homemade sauce. The Thai-style omelette is slightly rich in flavor, perfect with rice or sake. The Guerrilla Menu features Thai dishes that Wanida sporadically creates, often with unique ingredients and ranging from mild to spicy, always delicious. All the Thai dishes at this restaurant are homemade, prepared with care and using various spices. Many people may imagine Wanida as a character from manga or TV, but visiting the store will change that perception. Personally, I think this restaurant offers the best Thai cuisine.

At a mysterious alley off the side street of Akabane OK Yokocho, a sign lights up for "Wanida 2" where the menu is all in hiragana. I ordered the Bai Mak Rue (kumquat leaf), Lemongrass, and various Thai herbs-infused sausage called "Sai Ua," along with a spicy appetizer. I drank plenty of "nam bie" (chuu) and ended the meal with "Taikare So-men-tsuki" or Kanom Chin. This was my first visit here, and as rumored, the owner Wanida's character is fantastic! I must revisit soon! 😂

On a late night weekend, I happened to be watching TV and came across an interesting documentary show where a popular actor was living in Akabane and interacting with the local residents. During the show, "Akabane's nuclear warhead" known as the Thai izakaya mama, Wanida-san, made an appearance, causing me to accidentally spill my drink in surprise. I had visited "Wanida" a few years back and had a great time, but every time I tried to visit the place afterwards, it was always packed with local regulars and I couldn't get in, so I had stopped going. However, after seeing Wanida-san on TV, I decided to look up the current situation and found out that "Wanida" had closed at the end of last year, and now they have reopened as "Wanida 2". I visited the new place in mid-February. The location is in a narrow alley just to the left after crossing the pedestrian crossing in front of Akabane Station East Exit. Just like the previous place in Iwabuchi, the location of the new place is quite shady...it can be intimidating for amateurs. Since Akabane is a deep town with a variety of customers, I recommend checking out the inside of the store and using your own judgment before entering if you are a first-timer. On the day I visited, the place was bustling with regular customers and first-timers who seemed to have seen the TV show. I was able to get a seat at a shared table. The system of the place seemed to be all-you-can-drink beer or sour drinks with a cover charge, all for a flat rate of 3000 yen. The food seems to be made only when Wanida-san feels like it (and sometimes you have to make your own drinks too). First-time customers will definitely be surprised. However, this place is not just a "Thai izakaya" or a "Thai snack bar", it's "Wanida". Everyone comes here to see Wanida-san. I had a great time catching up with Wanida-san and the regulars, and it lifted my spirits. I would be grateful to be welcomed back when I visit Akabane again.

Located in the depths of the 1st outer street of Akabane, near the charming Chinese restaurant Chuo-tei, is "Wanida." The second branch of Wanida opened on November 11th, in a wild location between the road leading into the 1st street from Akabane East Exit and the road along the railway tracks. I've tried to visit twice, but it was always full. Tonight, I managed to get a seat at the counter, where I tried their Thai green curry on Japanese somen noodles. The curry was spicy and flavorful, with a strong coconut aroma. The kitchen is small, so they only offer a limited menu. The atmosphere is great, and the owner, who resembles Angela Aki, exudes a sense of gratitude towards the gods. The bill came to ¥1600, including a Sapporo Red Star beer. It was a unique experience, feeling like I had glimpsed the true essence of Thailand in the backstreets of Akabane.
