On June 24, 2023, I visited Tohoku on the 2nd floor of Nakano Broadway for the first time. Although I often visit the 1st and 3rd floors of Broadway, I rarely go to the 2nd floor because there are no shops to shop at and the escalator goes straight to the 3rd floor. However, my wife mentioned that she wanted to try Tohoku, so we decided to have lunch there on a Saturday. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:37, and there were no other customers, giving the place a lonely feeling.
We sat at the counter and ordered ramen for 450 yen and fried rice for 550 yen. The total for individual items would be 1000 yen, but as a set, it was discounted to 950 yen, which was a bit of a deal. My wife ordered bean sprout noodles for 550 yen and dumplings for 450 yen, also as a set for 950 yen. The food was served quite quickly, with the bean sprout noodles arriving in about 3 minutes and all items arriving in about 8 minutes after ordering.
The ramen had a simple and nostalgic feel, with a chicken-based soy sauce broth that was not too strong, with a slight sweetness. The broth was flavorful and not too intense, with a good balance of umami. The noodles were medium-thick straight noodles cooked with a soft texture but still had a good chewiness. The pork chashu was small and tender, with a slightly sweet seasoning. The bamboo shoots were soft and had a flavorful broth taste. The other toppings included fish cake and a bit more green onions.
The fried rice had ham, fish cake, egg, and green onions as toppings, with a moist and slightly oily texture. It had a strong pepper flavor and a strong seasoning, but it was still tasty. The dumplings were large with plenty of juicy filling with a good amount of chives, giving them a delicious taste.
Overall, the food was delicious, the prices were affordable, and the set menu was a great deal. I regret not visiting this place sooner.
