After bookmarking it years ago, I finally made a visit to Nakano and Broadway. I got lost as soon as I reached the second floor. I ordered a set of fried rice and ramen with gyoza. The soy sauce ramen had a nostalgic Showa era look and taste, with delicious soup. The gyoza was piping hot. The fried rice had a mushy texture but the simple ingredients like green peas, egg, naruto, ham, and strong salt and pepper seasoning made it tasty. I kept mispronouncing the shop's name but finally learned it. The owner's commitment to serving only delicious food was admirable. I will definitely go back when I'm in Nakano again, and next time I'll make sure not to get lost!

On June 24, 2023, I visited Tohoku on the 2nd floor of Nakano Broadway for the first time. Although I often visit the 1st and 3rd floors of Broadway, I rarely go to the 2nd floor because there are no shops to shop at and the escalator goes straight to the 3rd floor. However, my wife mentioned that she wanted to try Tohoku, so we decided to have lunch there on a Saturday. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:37, and there were no other customers, giving the place a lonely feeling. We sat at the counter and ordered ramen for 450 yen and fried rice for 550 yen. The total for individual items would be 1000 yen, but as a set, it was discounted to 950 yen, which was a bit of a deal. My wife ordered bean sprout noodles for 550 yen and dumplings for 450 yen, also as a set for 950 yen. The food was served quite quickly, with the bean sprout noodles arriving in about 3 minutes and all items arriving in about 8 minutes after ordering. The ramen had a simple and nostalgic feel, with a chicken-based soy sauce broth that was not too strong, with a slight sweetness. The broth was flavorful and not too intense, with a good balance of umami. The noodles were medium-thick straight noodles cooked with a soft texture but still had a good chewiness. The pork chashu was small and tender, with a slightly sweet seasoning. The bamboo shoots were soft and had a flavorful broth taste. The other toppings included fish cake and a bit more green onions. The fried rice had ham, fish cake, egg, and green onions as toppings, with a moist and slightly oily texture. It had a strong pepper flavor and a strong seasoning, but it was still tasty. The dumplings were large with plenty of juicy filling with a good amount of chives, giving them a delicious taste. Overall, the food was delicious, the prices were affordable, and the set menu was a great deal. I regret not visiting this place sooner.

I visited for lunch. The location is on the second floor of Nakano Broadway. The interior has 8 counter seats, and it has been open since a few years after Nakano Broadway opened in 1966. It is a popular ramen shop since the high economic growth period in Japan. The business hours are 11:30-14:30 (last order), and the store is closed on Sundays and Wednesdays. There is an episode about former Tokyo Governor Yukio Aoshima, who was a resident of the condominium in the upper part of Nakano Broadway, also frequented the shop during his time as governor. I enjoyed delicious ramen and gyoza. I would like to visit again.

It's been a while since my last visit. I had a Chinese rice bowl and a beer. I really wanted to have some dumplings too, but I suddenly felt unwell at a different restaurant yesterday. I was sweating a lot and had chills, so I couldn't eat much and ended up leaving the restaurant in that state. I couldn't eat anything the whole day and my condition didn't improve. Because of that experience, I was a bit hesitant while eating the Chinese rice bowl today. However, it was incredibly delicious and perfect for my recovering body. The sauce was just right. I also enjoyed the beer. So, I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to my health yesterday. Next time I visit, I hope to be in perfect health and enjoy some dumplings as well (laughs).

On Tuesday, it was sunny with a temperature of 26°C. I entered the restaurant at 12:15 and there were 1/8 seats available. I ordered the Chinese rice bowl for ¥550. The staff was handling everything alone, so it took some time for the food to be ready. The bowl arrived 12 minutes later. It was filled with cabbage, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms, all cooked in a thick and hot starchy sauce. The Chinese soup had a delicious flavor of salted chicken broth. Be careful when entering the restaurant as the escalator right inside the Broadway building leads directly to the 3rd floor (the restaurant is on the 2nd floor).

I visit this place once a month. This time, I had the bean sprout ramen. The slightly thick sauce topping is irresistible. The ginger in the dumplings is cut into big chunks, crunchy and delicious. It's addictive! Simply delicious. Next time, I'll try the Chinese rice bowl and conquer all the main dishes. I'll definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal.

Today I had Cantonese noodles, gyoza, and beer. I always think, this is the best! and feel deeply moved. I like modern ramen too, but I love these traditional noodles more than the modern ones. I really hope that these kinds of restaurants will continue to exist forever. The Cantonese noodles have a soy sauce soup with a thick, flavorful sauce on top, which is really good. The gyoza is filled with chopped meat, giving it a satisfying texture. And of course, gyoza and beer go hand in hand! When we ordered together, my wife ordered fried rice, and the total came to 2,150 yen. Later, I realized they gave us a 100 yen discount. It's these little gestures that are hard to come by. It was a blissful lunch! I will definitely go back!

There was some business in Nakano, and on the second floor of Nakano Broadway, there is a place called Tohoku e Tohoku, written as "Tonpei" and pronounced as such. It seems to have a history of nearly 50 years, with a cool interior where an older lady next to me kept asking Siri where the nearby department stores and Comme des Garcons were located. It was a charming place where I couldn't decide what to eat, but opting for the set was a good choice as it was 50 yen cheaper. The fried rice was moist and had a rich flavor, embodying the essence of a typical Chinese town dish, making it a delightful taste. The dumplings also had a strong garlic flavor and were generously filled, making them delicious. I wish I had a beer to accompany the meal. I was amazed and grateful for the incredible cost performance of 450 yen for ramen, 550 yen for fried rice in these times.

I had a bowl of five-ingredient soba and also some dumplings. It had been a while since my last visit. The owner had been unwell and had taken a long break. The taste was still the same, which made me feel relieved. The five-ingredient soba had a salt-based seasoning, which was just right for me as I had drunk too much the day before. I regret it.

The cost performance is amazing! It's impressive that they continue to offer ramen and fried rice at this price in the Reiwa era. The ramen is light and simple, you can eat as much as you want. Located in the drinking district of Nakano Walker, it's easy on the stomach and loved by many. The fried rice is fluffy and flavorful. The dumplings are delicious with a strong garlic flavor.

2F of Nakano Broadway. Visited Tonpei. The establishment seems to be a few years after the opening of Broadway 55 years ago, but the exact timing is unknown. Prices are very cheap, with ramen for 450 yen, tantanmen for 550 yen, fried rice for 550 yen, and Chinese rice bowl for 550 yen, among others. If you order two items, you get a 50 yen discount. It used to have a wide variety of menu options like a typical Chinese restaurant until around 2020, but now it only offers moyashi soba, wonton, and gyoza. Simple. I heard that the fried rice was delicious, so I ordered fried rice and ramen with half the noodles. The fried rice had naruto, ham, egg, green onions, and green peas. It had a flavorful seasoning typical of a Chinese restaurant, and perhaps because of the sesame oil, it was both fluffy and shiny. The ramen was a traditional Chinese noodle soup made with chicken and pork. The noodles were thin. Menma, green onions, and small slices of char siu had the typical flavor of a Chinese restaurant. The owner seemed intimidating and unfriendly at first glance, but once inside, they were surprisingly kind and considerate, creating a charming gap in their demeanor. This might be the best fried rice in Nakano Kita-guchi. Thank you for the meal.

I went on a tour of Chinese restaurants in Nakano. This time, I visited Tohoku-san. I ordered a beer, gyoza, and fried rice set during the day. The restaurant was quite small, with only a counter and limited space. The beer was handed to me by a regular customer. When the gyoza and fried rice arrived, there was not enough space on the counter. However, everyone was friendly and told me it was okay to use some of their space. It was a place where people shared and showed genuine kindness. I also made room for another regular customer who came later. They thanked me for it. While enjoying my beer and gyoza, I was approached by the person I gave my seat to, who said, "I'm jealous! Beer and gyoza are the best combo, right?" I raised my glass in response and enjoyed the fried rice that the chef energetically prepared. The sense of unity between the owner and customers in the restaurant, made possible by its small size, was unique and special. I will definitely visit again!

One of the epicenters emitting a particularly pleasant aroma on the 2nd floor of Nakano Broadway. This shop has been on my list to visit for over a decade. Finally, I managed to enter. The quiet owner with a younger support staff in the kitchen. The interior of the shop screams Showa era. The prices also reflect the Showa era. The entrance may seem intimidating, but it's important to experience everything inside. - Fried Rice: ¥550 (with soup) There is only one fried rice menu. Without hesitation, I decided to order the fried rice, but then I saw the fried rice and gyoza set for ¥950, so I ordered that instead. The sound of oil sizzling in the hot pan started, followed by vigorous stirring. The clanging of metal against metal sounded great. Soon, the fried rice was ready. A simple and nostalgic Showa-style fried rice with ham, egg, green onions, and peas. It had a rough charm to it, reminiscent of old-school Chinese fried rice. The ham added a great umami flavor. It was really good. - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/friedrice_jp/ - Blog: https://friedrice.exblog.jp/ - Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/friedrice.japan

There are many reviews, but personally, this always crowded shopping street. The back alleys have become shuttered shops, but I hope they continue to do their best in this corner. Stopped by Tonpei-san on Broadway in the middle. It's a cheap town Chinese restaurant as written on the menu. When it comes to Tohoku, it's fried rice. The simple but nostalgic taste of Naruto, red ham, leeks, and egg still remains. The perfect amount of heat gives it a fluffy texture and the aroma stimulates the appetite... yummy. The ramen is also very simple. But it's a familiar taste, so you can order with confidence. This fried rice with this soup. Pepper goes really well with it, haha. It made me feel like I was back in my student days. There used to be many cheap ramen shops scattered around the city in the past with that taste... even though they've closed down, there was a town Chinese restaurant called Daisangen in my hometown. The ramen was an amazing 180 yen. The taste is similar to the one in Tohoku... maybe they are from the same school?... The recommendation level is average. Among the genre of cheap town Chinese restaurants, the casualness is of a high standard.

Nice to meet you, I'm Chappy Jinbo. I'll ask for your help. The restaurant is located at 5-52-15 Nakano, Nakano-ku, called Tohoku (Tonpei). It is on the 2nd floor of Nakano Broadway. The phone number is 03-3386-3601. The nearest station is Nakano Station. This time, I entered during lunchtime and chose the fried rice from the menu. It costs 490 yen. The restaurant has a Showa-era Chinatown vibe that I personally don't dislike. The fried rice has a stable, old-school Chinatown taste. If you consider it staying within 500 yen, it's not bad at all... That's what I thought personally. It felt nostalgic. That's about it. See you later.

I visited the restaurant a little before 12 o'clock on Monday for lunch. Although the usual opening time seems to be after 12 o'clock, it happened to be open on that day. The elderly couple running the place seemed to be straight out of a Showa-era ramen shop, with no pretense of friendliness. The prices were very reasonable, with ramen priced at 390 yen including tax. I ordered the Moyashi Soba (470 yen including tax), which features a simple chicken bone soy sauce broth with a topping of bean sprouts, a traditional ramen menu item. The medium-thin curly noodles had a nice chewy texture that I enjoyed. The couple sitting next to me ordered gyoza and beer, and the delicious-looking fried rice became something I look forward to trying next time.

During lunch, I strolled down Broadway looking for a new restaurant to try. I found a Chinese restaurant next to a sushi place. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered fried rice and dumplings and waited for a while. Two groups of customers were watching TV. The owner of the restaurant was also watching with them. The food took a while to come out and the taste was just okay. Thank you for the meal.

If you go straight from Nakano Station to Sun Road, you will find a commercial facility called Broadway. The building is called Broadway, even though the road is narrow. On the second floor of Broadway, there is an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant called "Tohoku." Despite not being able to find it on the mall map or brochure, the restaurant is actually there. The chef, wearing a white coat, greeted me and started preparing the ramen I ordered. The ramen had a mild salt flavor and the noodles were smooth and easy to eat. It was a basic and satisfying ramen experience. I will definitely visit again. The location of the restaurant in this building's second floor might be a bit tricky to find without some prior knowledge. Despite being drawn to the hobby shops, the escalator goes straight to the third floor. Nakano Broadway is quite an odd building, isn't it? Finally arriving, even after spending quite some time during lunchtime, the place is packed with people of all ages. While many traditional Chinese restaurants are quietly disappearing, it seems like depending on the crowd, this type of restaurant is still popular. In the kitchen, the master and madam are working hard! Stirring and washing dishes non-stop... The space is so narrow that they have to efficiently divide tasks to pass each other. By the way, I wonder where all this oil smoke is being ventilated to haha. I ordered gyoza and "gomoku" soba. I'm starting to really like gomoku soba. It's interesting how even though they may look similar, the taste can vary depending on the restaurant. This restaurant's version is loaded with ingredients. The soup has a slightly deeper color. Is this the standard color for their tantanmen? Plus, it has a vibrant mix of toppings. The slightly wavy thin noodles are my favorite type. And, the flavor of the soup brings back memories with its nostalgic aroma. The popularity of traditional Chinese restaurants may have a strong element of nostalgia. You get 6 gyoza for this price! It makes you want to order a beer too! The gyoza has a nice balance of skin and filling, and it pairs well with just vinegar. Despite being a counter-only restaurant in an old mixed-use building, it fully captures the essence of traditional Chinese dining! It's like an adventure and highly recommended!
