During the Obon festival, I tried to visit a whale specialty store in Tsukiji for a quick drink without a reservation, but it was full as there were only a few seats available. So, I had lunch first and then went back to buy whale cutlets as a souvenir. It was a bit pricey. I was told that if you reheat it in a microwave, it will become tough, so I reheated it in a frying pan. However, it was still a bit tough. If you are taking this out, it seems better to eat it on the spot.

The store was supposed to open at 11:00 according to the website, but it actually opened at 11:30. They said they were out of the famous shaved ice and whale skewers. If you plan to visit this store, it's a good idea to call ahead and ask. However, the fried whale was also a specialty and delicious.

Lunch was a little lacking so I decided to go out for some food - got some whale cutlet to go and ate it in front of the store. The sauce was very watery and there was a lot of it (be careful, it can drip). The whale meat tasted like a kind of oily fish and had a pretty strong fishy smell. Everyone was saying there was no smell at all in their reviews, so I wonder why... Maybe it was because there weren't many customers due to the coronavirus and the freshness had dropped. Honestly, I found the smell a bit off-putting...

It's about a 5-10 minute walk from Tsukiji Station. Tsukiji is so crowded with shops that you might miss it. I accidentally passed by it once haha. The name of the restaurant has changed, it used to be called Tōmisui. I tried the whale steak for ¥400. I wanted something simple, so I opted for a grilled whale skewer instead of fried options like cutlets or karaage. It was my first time trying whale! The waitress mentioned that it can also be eaten raw, so it was cooked rare. It tasted delicious, like a version of chicken liver without the strong smell, with just a hint of fishiness. It was light and tasty! I also tried the shirasu ice cream, but I forgot the price. The ice cream was delicious too! It was a milk-based ice cream with plenty of shirasu. Normally, I would expect a few shirasu sprinkled on top of vanilla ice cream, but this had a lot of shirasu! It was like having shirasu in every bite. Tsukiji is always crowded, with English being spoken all around. Just walking around is like a lesson in English haha. The food and experience were amazing, but the best part was the lovely smile of the waitress. When I asked if there was a place to eat, she showed me a small counter area and said it was the only place, but if I wanted to, I could sit there. She explained the menu items, thanked me when I threw away my trash, and said "thank you for the meal" when I left, all with a beautiful smile that warmed my heart. I didn't have time to visit other places that day, but I would love to come back to visit Hongoji or other shops in the area when I can!

Hello, I am a meat-loving guy! My first post in the Reiwa era is from Tsukiji Outer Market. There is a specialized whale restaurant in Tsukiji Outer Market. Even after Tsukiji Market moved, it is still crowded. I went for a daytime drink with friends. Day drinking is the best! We had various whale set meals and they were delicious. Then we went to Corridor.

When I was in elementary school, my favorite school lunch was whale tempura. Nowadays, I rarely have the opportunity to eat it. However, there is a rare whale cuisine specialty shop in Tsukiji's outer market. They also have whale tempura, so I decided to visit after having lunch in Tsukishima. It was crowded with people at Tsukiji's outer market, even more so than before the move to Toyosu. There seemed to be more foreign tourists than before. At the storefront, there were not foreign tourists, but middle school girls flocking. Middle school girls interested in whale? They also sell soft serve ice cream, probably because it's hot today. I'll have the soft serve ice cream later, but first, let's try the whale tempura. Oh no... "SOLD OUT". Then I'll have the whale cutlet. Phew, the last one! When I paid 200 yen, they dipped it in sauce, put it in a paper cup, and handed it to me. I bought it, and the whale cutlet was also "SOLD OUT". It was very crowded at Tsukiji's outer market. It's okay to eat while walking, but not while walking. There are trash cans available, so let's eat in front of the shop. Although it wasn't freshly fried, the whale cutlet was tender and delicious. It had no strong taste and was really tasty. The sauce was also good. I finished it quickly. Next time, I want to try the tempura. Thank you for the meal.

When I was a child, "whale" was a common food that I used to eat, but now it has become a rare and precious ingredient. This shop outside Tsukiji Market offers whale dishes that can be easily enjoyed. In the past, I would eat whale while drinking beer inside the shop, but this time I decided to buy some for a food tour around the market. One weekday afternoon, on my way back from work, I stopped by the market. Initially, I was planning to have a light meal without alcohol since it was daytime, but then I came across cupped fried whale outside this shop. I bought beer from another store and also bought the fried whale as a snack to walk around the market. With a paper cup of beer in one hand and a paper cup of fried whale in the other, I walked around the market without feeling embarrassed. The fried whale was tender with a distinctive taste of whale meat, well-seasoned with ginger to eliminate any fishy smell, and had a crispy texture that went perfectly with beer. I took a break in a free resting area to take some photos, then continued walking around happily in the middle of a weekday afternoon. However, my work was not completely finished, as I still had paperwork to organize and contacts to follow up with when I got home. With a lingering feeling, I finished my beer and fried whale, then hopped on the subway to head to the upcoming job site in a corner of the downtown area along the Toei Subway line, which is easily accessible from Tsukiji. Last year, there were many reviews from the Chiba and Kisarazu areas, but this year I am looking forward to visiting Tsukiji more frequently. Although the main market has moved to Toyosu, the outer market is still bustling with energy. Reviews from areas like Fukagawa and Nihonbashi may increase along with those from Tsukiji.

This is a whale specialty store located in the Tsukiji outer market. They were enthusiastically selling whale steak skewers at the storefront, so as a whale enthusiast, I couldn't just walk past. It is 400 yen for a skewer with 4 pieces. I thought it would be 100 yen per piece, but once I took a bite, that didn't matter anymore. It is indeed not fish, but the taste of whale, which surprisingly doesn't have a gamey flavor. It brings back memories of the beloved whale. Whales were the ones that supported our stomachs during Japan's high economic growth period in the Showa era. It can be said without a doubt that Japan's prosperity wouldn't have been possible without whales. I strongly recommend selling to foreign customers. This place is like the conscience of Japan.

I arrived at this restaurant wanting to eat delicious whale dishes. It is a whale cuisine specialty store located in the Tsukiji Outer Market. While they sell ice cream and other items for tourists at the storefront, once you go inside, you are surprised by the scene resembling a back-alley stall. Looking at the menu, there are many whale dishes available. As recommended, I ordered whale sashimi, whale bacon, and fried whale. Below are the items I ordered: - Whale sashimi set meal (1280 yen) On the wall, there are explanations about the types of whales found in Japanese waters, the names of different parts of whale meat, and various whale meat trivia. While reading with interest, the dish arrived. It came with 8 pieces of whale sashimi and rice with pickles. The sashimi was frozen and wrapped in its skin. When I tried it with ginger soy sauce, it was light and not fishy at all. It was actually too light in flavor. - Fried whale (280 yen) The fried whale was well-cooked and crispy, but when I tasted it, it was tough and only tasted like the batter. It reminded me of the school lunches I had as a child. My craving for whale cuisine was satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I had a task to go to Ginza on Sunday, but most of the restaurants I wanted to visit were closed on Sundays, which was a devastating situation. I expanded my search to Tsukiji Market, hoping to find some restaurants open on Sundays due to the influence of tourists, but it seemed that many places were closed on their day off, except for one restaurant that I finally found. I arrived around 12:45 pm and saw that they were selling takeout items like fried whale meat at the storefront. A friendly staff member guided me inside, saying that I could also dine in. There was only one seat available, and a very pleasant female staff member took my order. I ordered the following items: - Fried whale meat (a la carte) - Whale sashimi set meal - Whale cut steak bowl set - Draft beer I was pleased to find out that the steak bowl set could be served with the ingredients and rice separately, making it easy to share with my friend. They also allowed me to choose the amount of rice I wanted, with my friend opting for a smaller portion and me choosing a regular amount. It was nice to see such attention to detail. As I enjoyed my draft beer, the fried whale meat arrived. It paired perfectly with the beer. I also learned that this restaurant had completed the Asahi Beer Quality Seminar, so they were very diligent in maintaining the quality of their beer. The fried whale meat had a ginger flavor that was delicious on its own, but adding a touch of rock salt enhanced the taste even more. It was a versatile dish that went well with beer and could also be enjoyed as a side dish with rice. When the sashimi and steak arrived, accompanied by rice, miso soup, and potato salad, I was impressed by the quality of the sashimi. It was tender and had no fishy taste at all. It was made from Pacific minke whale, and it was truly outstanding. While the sashimi was excellent even without the ginger condiment, the steak had a more elaborate seasoning. It was a bit chewier due to the visible tendons, but it was clear that this restaurant specialized in whale cuisine. Just after 1 pm, a group of four people entered the restaurant, but they were told that there was only enough rice for two people. We were lucky to have arrived at the right time. The restaurant had various posters and signs that were fun to look at, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. With the friendly staff and the opportunity to savor whale cuisine in such a thorough manner, I will definitely make a point to visit this restaurant again when I'm in Tsukiji.

I've tried various soft serves before, but this was my first time trying shirasu soft serve! I was a bit nervous at first, but when I tried it, the shirasu wasn't as noticeable as I thought. It was a sweet and delicious soft serve. Tsukiji is great, isn't it? :)

When feeling tired from work, I planned an extreme commute to Tsukiji with my senior colleagues early in the morning. At that time, the market was still in Tsukiji before moving to Toyosu. We visited the famous whale restaurant, Kujiraya, but since we had already eaten seafood bowls at the first place, we only ordered whale soft serve ice cream! The black sesame-like powder on top of the soft serve is actually whale powder. When I tried it, it had a slightly salty and mysterious taste. It wasn't too fishy, so it was delicious. They also had sake soft serve, which I wanted to try, but we had to head to the office right away, so I had to give up on it (laughs).

Visited Tomyosui on a street just off Shin-Ohashi Street in March 2014. It's a shop run by a whale wholesaler. They are open even on Sundays, but only until 2 pm. I've tried their Tatsutaage and Shirasu ice cream samples outside before, but this was my first time dining inside. I was tempted by the Saezuri sashimi and bacon, but due to budget constraints, I ordered the sashimi set and Tatsutaage. First up was the Tatsutaage. I tried sprinkling a bit of Himalayan rock salt on it. It was served with miso soup with onions and tofu, which was sweet. Refills were free. The whale stew was recommended to be placed on top of the rice, as the gelatin melts and tastes delicious. The whale red meat and skin sashimi was served with ginger soy sauce. It was tender, flavorful, and without any fishy smell. It was probably minke whale. I've heard of Saezuri being used in oden, but I've never tried it, so I'd like to next time. The Saezuri sashimi & bacon alone cost almost 2000 yen, while the sashimi set was 1250 yen. Current rating: 3.54

This shop offers takeout options for fried dishes like whale cutlet at the entrance, but there is also a dining area at the back of the shop. Even though it was lunchtime, I was able to enter smoothly without waiting. Inside the shop, there is a calm atmosphere that feels like being inside a sake brewery, which made the dining experience very pleasant. As for the taste, I had the whale sashimi set meal, and it was delicious without any fishy smell. There are various menu options to enjoy, so I will definitely visit again if I have the chance to come back to Tsukiji.

At the storefront, they sell take-out whale skewers, and just next to it, there is an alley where you can sit at a tilted long table and enjoy your meal slowly. A whale specialist with over 20 years of experience carefully prepares the dishes. I had the mixed bowl for lunch, which included popular whale cutlets and whale tempura. The miso soup was comforting and homey. Their popular dishes include whale cutlets, whale tempura, whale yukhoe, whale liver sashimi-style, whale meat marinated in mustard vinegar miso, whale sashimi, whale tail meat sashimi, whale belly sashimi, and whale bacon. Whale meat is high in protein, low in calories, rich in iron, contains quality amino acids, and valerin. It pairs well with Japanese sake or white wine.

[Shiodome duty] A group of Keio lunch companions, all with refined tastes from Keio Yochisha and other internal backgrounds. Most members are female, so "quantity" is not a major factor in evaluation. Emphasis is on value for money rather than the amount of money spent. The best affordable lunches can be found in Shinbashi! Even if it's a bit more expensive, the quality is worth it in Tsukiji. At the top level, it rivals the top restaurants in the Shinbashi-Ginza area. Only establishments within and around Tsukiji are considered. Would you like garlic? ★★★★★ Torazou (Seafood Hittsumabushi), Sushi Bun (No. 1 sushi restaurant in Tsukiji) ★★★★ Tommy Na (Tomato Cream Pasta with Snow Crab), Tempura Kurokawa (Kakiage Don, Tempura Set), Sashimi Bar Kishigashira (Seafood Bowl), Oda Ho (Shrimp Don) ★★★ Yakitori Totoya (Charcoal-grilled Yakitori Don), Takeno (Seasonal Fish), Isokoya (Oyster Rice), Takahashi (Conger Eel Don, Simmered Fish), Yachiyo (Char Siu Egg, Tonkatsu) ★★ Torito (Oyakodon, Singapore Chicken Rice), Tenbo (Tendon), Toyochan (Omuhayashi & Fry), Suzuki Suisan (Uni Don & Grilled Fish) ★ Kitsuneya (Simmered Hormone), Yajiman (Asari Ramen, Shumai), Choseian (Soba + Tuna Shirasu Don), Nakaei (Indian Curry) Excluded from evaluation: Komeka (Evaluation not possible unless sitting with regulars), Paradijo (Impossible to enter without reservation), Kujira no Tomisui (Whale dishes, as preferences for whale meat vary by individual) [Kujira no Tomisui] Among the highly-rated restaurants in the Tsukiji gourmet rankings, the most popular establishment among connoisseurs is "Takeno," but (according to our circle and gourmet experts within the company), even people familiar with Tsukiji may not know about this place frequented by true connoisseurs: "Kujira no Tomisui." Yes, it's a whale meat specialty restaurant, a food ingredient that is unfamiliar to many, especially those young ladies who hail from upscale residential areas around Shibuya. Some may vaguely recall the whale specialty shop next to 109, but few have actually eaten whale meat. Therefore, this restaurant is excluded from evaluation. However, as self-proclaimed Tsukiji regulars who have indulged in gourmet lunches extensively, they have grown tired of most establishments within and around Tsukiji. That's why they believe that "Kujira no Tomisui" is a place where true connoisseurs dine. Honestly, whale meat does have a distinct taste and smell that may not be everyone's favorite. But the whale meat here is surely fresh and delicious. The freshness is outstanding. Whether it's sashimi or cutlets, even those who dislike whale meat can enjoy it here. The unpleasant smell is almost non-existent. It's a wonderful restaurant. We would like to give it a proper evaluation, but we are not fans of whale meat. Therefore, it is excluded from the ranking. Thank you for the meal.

When I visited Demisu water, I went in. After passing through a narrow entrance like an eel's sleeping place, I found myself in a whale wonderland. Are these whales used for whale research whaling? I couldn't ask, but the red meat sashimi was delicious. The fried dish also had a mild taste, similar to horse meat. Anyway, I had a drink.

Whale specialty restaurant that is incredibly delicious. Only open for dinner with full reservation in advance. The course menu is only 4000 yen, which is very affordable. When we reserved for 4 people, we were the only ones there and had a private dining experience. The manager explains each dish and brings them out personally. You can learn about the different types and parts of whale meat. This is the only place where you can enjoy the different flavors and textures of whale meat based on the part and dish. You will definitely be satisfied, so be sure to visit.
