So, I ordered two Hoppy drinks with negima (350 yen) and various skewers like tsukune (250 yen). Since I was seated at the counter, I could see the grilling process up close, which was enjoyable. The master griller, a kind and pleasant man, would take orders right in front of me and diligently grill the yakitori once an order came in. He would carefully check the grilling progress, ensuring that the skewers were crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of salt. Delicious! Although I didn't order it this time, the fact that they offer chicken sashimi is a sign of the freshness of their chicken. It's truly delicious without any unpleasant odor. In a casual setting, each skewer of Shamo chicken cost 400 yen! On the day I visited, they were almost sold out, and only Negima (leek and chicken) and wings were left. The Negima had a firm texture and was very satisfying to eat! I usually find wings troublesome to eat, but they had removed all the bones and put them on skewers, which I appreciated. I had high expectations for the Saitama Gotoji based on the good reviews on Tabelog. We ordered beer, yakitori skewers (tsukune, seseri, heart - each 180 yen), and potato salad. The appetizer was shirasu with grated daikon. The potato salad was delicious with a generous portion. The skewers arrived and they were delicious! The heart was rich in flavor and had a crunchy texture, the seseri was juicy, and the tsukune was soft with a strong flavor. The grated daikon with ponzu sauce was just okay. We couldn't decide between hotpot or sashimi, so we chose sashimi platter with 3 types and tataki. We also ordered beer. The sashimi was also very good with a great texture, flavor, and garnishes that made us want to drink more. They had a good selection of local sake, so we tried Tsururei in a tokkuri, which paired well with the food. We ended up drinking Matsunoju and Zaku as well, both were smooth and easy to drink. The prices were a bit high, but they had good COVID-19 precautions with vinyl dividers between each table. Overall, it was a great restaurant with delicious food and drinks. We also had the parent and child bowl set, which was chicken, egg, and rice. We enjoyed the leftover sukiyaki broth poured over rice. [Service] While the actual service was fine, it was inappropriate for the staff to stand in front of customers watching boxing, showing a lack of basic customer service skills.
