I revisited Sakurada, an Edo cuisine restaurant located 2-3 minutes away from Tokyo, Asakusa, and Kaminarimon. I highly recommend their game and seafood charcoal grilling. The owner walks around the restaurant explaining in detail how to grill and season the food, which is very helpful. The interior of the restaurant is nostalgic, using building materials from a 90-year-old machiya in Kyoto. I pre-ordered the Sakurada Enjoyment Raijin Course for 5,500 yen (tax included). I reserved a sunken kotatsu seat. While enjoying beer and appetizers, a staff member brought a large sieve with the day's charcoal-grilled ingredients for us to choose three items from. I chose the chicken, marinated saury, and deer miso. The saury was incredibly delicious with its rich flavor. The chicken, grilled with just salt, was also very tasty, showcasing the natural flavor of the chicken. The quail ordered by my companion had a lot of fat on the skin and got charred quickly on the grill. After grilling, dipping it in homemade soy sauce was my favorite. The deer miso grilled dish requires attention as it tends to burn easily. It pairs well with hot sake. The deer grilled in a hoe was quite substantial. The fluffy egg grilled in the irori fireplace was delicious. The clay pot rice was not pictured, but it was satisfying. The final mitarashi dango was from Mitarashi Dango Chageki at Matsuo Taisha Shrine in Kyoto. It was grilled and then dipped in homemade soy sauce, which was delicious. The food was not only tasty but also plentiful. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the feast!

Today, I stopped by a sukiyaki restaurant called "Edo Ryori Sakurada" on a whim. Despite being located on the busy Kaminarimon Street, I had never noticed it before, haha. The restaurant had a very traditional atmosphere, with soothing Japanese music playing in the background. I decided to go with the recommended sukiyaki set meal for 1,500 yen. First, a pot of rice arrived, followed by the hot sukiyaki set about 5 minutes later. The timing was perfect! The portion was just right and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Sakurada used to run a restaurant called An Sakurada in Kuramae, so I knew the owner of Sakurada, but I had never actually dined there. They had a set menu where you could enjoy their specialty dishes for 3000 yen, but it was said to take a long time, so it didn't seem like a very welcoming option. Instead, I ordered the Wagyu sukiyaki set meal for 1500 yen from their regular lunch menu. A small pot and hourglass were brought to the table. The rice was cooked in the pot with high-quality rice. By the time the rice was ready, the Wagyu sukiyaki arrived as well. The beef was lean and more like a beef hot pot than sukiyaki. The rice was cooked in a soft Kyoto-style way and was delicious. I might have preferred the chicken hot pot over the sukiyaki. They only accept cash for lunch.

Located just a three-minute walk from Asakusa Station, "Sakurada" is a paradise of robatayaki charcoal grilling where history and modernity blend seamlessly. This restaurant, born from the renovation of an old tea house, exudes a charming atmosphere that makes you feel like you're traveling through time. The charcoal grills at each table create a special stage where you can experience the essence of the dishes right before your eyes.
We ordered the "Raijin Course" this time. The appetizers and side dishes that are brought out first are full of seasonal flavors, and the selection of four grilled skewers that come next, presented by the staff from a large sieve, is a fresh and enjoyable experience. In particular, the fluffy Edo-style scrambled eggs are like a soufflé and perfect for cleansing the palate. Furthermore, the grilled venison and wild boar in the pot have a perfect harmony of gamey flavors and the smokiness from the charcoal fire, warming not just the body but also the heart.
You can also enjoy simple yet luxurious flavors like the Emperor's dedicated rice, which is fluffy and delicious, and the miso soup in a bamboo pot. The meal concludes with grilled mitarashi dango, with a crispy exterior and a chewy interior that soothes the tired soul. The variety of drinks, especially the highball, with its perfect richness, is irresistible.
Sakurada is a must-visit renowned restaurant in Asakusa for those seeking delicious food. Experiencing the robatayaki-style dishes and drinks in this space is truly a blissful moment that you should experience at least once.

Today, I visited a restaurant specializing in game dishes. The restaurant is located in a historic building, which created a great atmosphere. I opted for a course menu where I could choose 5 items I liked. There were luxurious items like blackthroat seaperch, venison, and quail, as well as things I had never tried before, which made the experience very enjoyable! There was a fluffy egg dish that didn't rise properly due to insufficient heat, but it was still delicious! The sake was easy to drink, and I ended up having quite a bit, feeling a little tipsy, but I had a great time (laughs).

Based on the menu, it seems like the restaurant has a completely different atmosphere for lunch and dinner. At night, you can enjoy game meat grilled on a hearth. They offer bear, deer, boar, quail, duck, and more for you to grill yourself. The owner will kindly teach you how to grill, so you don't need to worry at all. Offering game meat of this quality at this price in Tokyo is exceptional.

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. It's a place I often visit. Grilled skewers cooked over charcoal and various Edo-style dishes in Asakusa! I was captivated by the charm of it all. The feeling of stepping back in time is irresistible (^ ^) The cost performance is great, with delicious fish, meat, vegetables, and senbei! Occasionally, even bear meat makes an appearance! There are also plenty of other game meats available. I have introduced it to my foreign friends and they loved it, and my friends from other prefectures who come to visit are also very pleased. Edo-style cuisine in Asakusa!

A lively izakaya where everyone gathers around a hearth to grill and drink together. The owner, who seems to be an old man, has a strong presence, and it's fun to choose what you want to grill from the variety of foods available. The food is delicious too! The restaurant is said to have been renovated from an old private house. Another restaurant I definitely want to revisit!

This place is interesting. The appetizer is clams and tuna simmered in soy sauce. The rich flavor is delightful. You can choose 5 grilled dishes. It's fun. I choose red tilefish, marinated tuna, chicken wings, golden eye snapper, and deer meat. They are all delicious. Grilled sake is also delicious, like being in the world of "Onihei". Fluffy eggs made with meringue in the broth. A soup and rice in a bamboo pot (pot made of bamboo). All of this for 4,400 yen. Add Onihei's chicken hot pot. It's a liver hot pot but has an Edo atmosphere. A fun restaurant.

I visited the famous game meat restaurant "Sakurada" in Asakusa. The interior of the restaurant is very charming. The game meat served at Sakurada is hunted by affiliated hunters. Starting from the appetizer of deer and boar stew. The deer meat is refreshing with a hint of grassy aroma. The boar meat is rich with flavor and packed with umami. Then there were five types of grilled game meat: duck, quail, boar, deer, and pheasant (probably). The duck is rich and surprisingly tastes like red meat, with delicious but not overpowering fat. The quail is refreshing with no gamey taste, similar to white fish. The boar is strong! The meat and fat are full of flavor. The deer still has a grassy aroma. They must have eaten a lot of grass during their life. We are grateful for their lives. The pheasant is refreshing and has more elasticity in the meat compared to chicken. Then there was bear meat. Surprisingly, there was no gamey taste, maybe because it was well processed. The meat is more elastic than boar with little fat. There was a slight hint of wood aroma. It didn't seem like a very big bear. I could only smell the aroma of what they had eaten, so I was aware that I was receiving their lives and ate with gratitude. Not only meat but also vegetables, what we eat is a life. That's why in Japan we say "itadakimasu" before a meal and "gochisousama" after finishing. It's a unique and wonderful culture. I think it's a great culture. I am truly grateful to the hunters, fishermen, and cooks who provide us with food. Thank you for the meal. I highly recommend Sakurada, a truly exceptional restaurant. The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Sakurada, came to greet us during our visit. He was also a wonderful person who protects and provides amazing dishes at the restaurant. I am sincerely grateful to Sakurada.

Before the meal, you can enjoy the Edo atmosphere with interior design that evokes a sense of history. The course starts with appetizers, small dishes, and charcoal-grilled skewers that you can choose yourself, featuring game meat, fish, and vegetables. You grill them over charcoal and enjoy them. The drinks flow easily as you indulge in this experience. Then, you can cook fluffy eggs over a hearth, enjoy sukiyaki, soup, and finish with rice. Finally, dessert is served. The Edo atmosphere, unique chopsticks, and the novelty of charcoal grilling over a hearth make it a great place to visit with friends or for a date.

This is a tranquil old Japanese house where you can enjoy charcoal-grilled dishes with game meat around the hearth at night. For lunch, they offer casual dishes like udon and curry. We tried the chicken hot pot set meal and deer curry, both of which were delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very calming and wonderful. We definitely want to visit again at night next time.

It was past 1:20 pm on Saturday. I was hesitating in front of a lunch restaurant when I was lured in by the smell of game meat skewers being grilled outside. I was able to sit down right away, but they warned me that it would take some time for the food to be served. Since I wasn't in a hurry, I decided to wait patiently. I ordered the Chicken Hot Pot for 1650 yen. While waiting and drinking alcohol, the food took longer to arrive than expected. After about 40 minutes of waiting, the food was finally served. It was a miso-based hot pot with chicken offal and kumquats. The soup was delicious with a hint of offal flavor. However, there was hardly any meat, just offal. I had thought it would be a hot pot with chicken meat, so I was a bit disappointed. As a hot pot with offal, it was okay. Thank you for the meal.

[About the Shop]
While walking along the main streets near Asakusa, I came across a shop that looked like a long-established Japanese cuisine restaurant with a signboard saying "Nabe Meshi (hot pot rice) in winter". I decided to stop and check it out. Surprisingly, this shop was open for lunch. The idea of having Nabe Meshi for lunch sounded appealing, so I decided to go inside. The interior of the shop had dim lighting and a lot of traditional Japanese furnishings, giving it a historical atmosphere. The customers seemed to be a mix of local workers and tourists.
[About the Food]
★ Chicken Hot Pot Rice - 880 yen
For lunch, you can choose from four types of hot pot rice: chicken, negima (chicken and leek), beef, and quail dumpling. I chose the chicken hot pot rice this time. After the meal, you can have oolong tea or coffee, so I ordered coffee. Soon, the food was served on a tray, including the bubbling main chicken hot pot, rice, miso soup, pickles, and a side dish of kinpira gobou. I tried the main chicken hot pot first. It was my first time trying this dish, and I could strongly taste the miso-flavored broth. The ingredients included chicken liver, gizzard, kinkan (kumquat), as well as green onions and wheat gluten. It paired well with the rice. I wonder if it's a regional specialty dish? The miso soup had plenty of ingredients and was flavorful. The pickles and side dish of kinpira gobou were also delightful. I enjoyed the coffee served in traditional Japanese tableware. After paying the bill, I left the shop. I felt the history of the place. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on a regular night. They have a style where you can charcoal grill your food on a table grill. They bring a tray with fish, meat, vegetables, etc. and you can choose what you want to grill yourself. They have good options like free-range chicken and blackthroat seaperch. I tried a variety of items and they were all delicious. The atmosphere is also nice (feels like old Edo) and I was satisfied!

Today's lunch was at "Sakurada" in Asakusa. It's a quaint wooden traditional Japanese-style restaurant (photo 1). Photos 2 and 3 show the lunch menu displayed outside the restaurant. I arrived right at the opening time of 11:30 am and was the first customer. I was seated at a small wooden table for two. I ordered the "Shamo Nabe Set Meal (¥880)" based on the menu outside. It took a bit of time, but after about 10 minutes, it arrived (photo 4). The bubbling hot Shamo Nabe was miso-based. It was a bit too hot for today's weather in Tokyo, so I ended up sweating a lot while eating. The taste didn't quite suit my palate... I might have preferred a regular beef dish. The restaurant seemed to cater more towards tourists, emphasizing its location in Asakusa, wooden structure, and ambiance. Although not shown in the photos, the set meal came with a choice of coffee or oolong tea, and for ¥880, it was reasonably good value.

On April 8, 2021, after attending my father's memorial service at Sensoji Temple, we had lunch here. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was charming, giving the feeling of traveling back to the Edo period. When we looked at the lunch menu, we were surprised by how affordable it was, so we didn't have high expectations. However, all the dishes were well-seasoned and delicious. I recommend the Edo-style sukiyaki hot pot, the sea boat-themed negima hot pot, and the Ise Matsusaka miso chicken grill for those who want to experience the Edo atmosphere. Especially today (April 8) was the "Flower Festival," celebrating the birthday of Buddha, so at Sensoji Temple, we were able to offer sweet tea to Buddha's statue. Thank you for the wonderful meal today! \(^o^)/

I went to Asakusa's "Edo Ryori Sakurada" for a self-organized meetup. I chose the "Kaminarimon Course," which consisted of a variety of Edo-style dishes. Starting with small dishes like marinated fish, deer meat, and bear meat, we then moved on to charcoal grilling. We gathered around a table with a built-in hearth, where we grilled skewers and other dishes under the guidance of the owner. Each person could choose three skewers for grilling, so I chose famous dishes from the Edo period like fighting cock, marinated fish, and deer meat. Next, the owner prepared "fluffy egg" on the charcoal, which was not only delicious but also had a rich broth. "Fluffy egg" is a dish that was served to Emperor Gosai during his visit to Nijo Castle in 1626, and it became popular among wealthy townspeople in Edo after the recipe spread. I chose duck wrapped in magnolia leaves for the next dish, which was surprisingly flavorful with a miso seasoning. For the small pot dish, I chose clams, which had a rich and delicious broth. After pepper rice, we had the opportunity to experience grilling Kogashi senbei and mitarashi dango. I usually don't enjoy demonstration-style cooking, but overall, I was satisfied with the dishes. The menu changes slightly according to the season, so I would definitely like to visit again.

Every time I passed by, I was curious about this Edo-style restaurant. The friendly staff happily answered any questions I had. The building has a lot of history, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. The rare Edo-style dishes, faithfully recreated from historical sources, are quite delicious. It was a very fresh experience.

I visited this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday along the Kaminarimon Street. The interior of the restaurant has a quaint feel, resembling a traditional Japanese house. According to the staff, the restaurant has a history of over 40 years. The lunch menu includes options such as sukiyaki, chicken hot pot, oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), and negima hot pot, all priced at 995 yen each. I ordered the negima hot pot. In less than 10 minutes, the negima hot pot was served. The broth was soy sauce-based, with ingredients such as taro, green beans, carrots, lotus root, and thick shiitake mushrooms. The flavor was refreshing, elegant, and delicious. The negima hot pot consisted of 3 slices of tuna and 3 pieces of leeks, which may look a bit scarce, but the soup had a strong tuna flavor. The pickles served were daikon radish, carrots, and turnips, likely homemade and well pickled. For dessert, they served rice cakes, which also had a refined and delicious taste. Although I didn't feel overly full, I left with a sense of satisfaction from enjoying delicious food.

Passing through the large noren curtain, the unique atmosphere doubles the enjoyment! Each table has a hearth installed. Today's order was a 3,500 yen course with additional dishes and a drink. I carefully grilled the robatayaki and enjoyed it deliciously. Finally, I toasted some senbei and returned home feeling satisfied.
