I was choosing three bags for 1100 yen at the neighboring delicacy store when Hikobei's uncle called out at the entrance of the alley. His approach was not pushy, but very polite, so I decided to go there because the popular places were crowded and I was hungry. The main store was full, but when I went down the stairs next door, there was a new building. There were many menu options, including sushi and rice bowls. When I asked the uncle for a recommendation, he suggested trying the conger eel bowl. So, I ordered the conger eel bowl and my husband ordered the tuna bowl. The conger eel bowl was probably not something I would have ordered if it wasn't recommended. But when it arrived, it was a beautiful bowl with a large, soft, fluffy conger eel. It was full of conger eel, even in places hidden by the tamagoyaki and ginger. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness, and the rice was delicious. The tuna bowl was reasonably priced at 1600 yen. My husband even enjoyed my conger eel bowl (laughs). The fragrant seaweed miso soup was also delicious. Hikobei-san was the right choice for my first visit to Tsukiji. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal!

Having lunch outside Tsukiji Market. The inbound tourists have started coming back, bringing back the lively atmosphere to the Tsukiji outer market. On this day, I decided to try a new restaurant and stumbled upon a market-like place called "Hikobei." The menu mainly consisted of sushi and seafood bowls, with the cheapest option being a tuna bowl for 1600 yen, which is relatively affordable in the Tsukiji outer market area. I decided to go for the "Hikobei Sushi (4500 yen)" but ended up choosing the more budget-friendly "Limited Set (2900 yen)." The food was served promptly, and surprisingly, it came with Oolong tea. The sushi set included 6 pieces of nigiri, tamagoyaki, and miso soup. The rice portion was quite generous, and even though the number of pieces was small, I left feeling satisfied. Personally, I think it's better to go for the seafood bowl rather than the sushi at this restaurant. They accepted cash and PayPay for payment. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic but had a market-like charm to it.

Around 1:00 PM on July 8th, I was wandering around looking to eat a seafood bowl in Tsukiji. I was guided by Hikobei-san to a nice hidden alley. Since there were five of us, we were taken downstairs from the neighboring store. We ordered a tuna bowl for 1600 yen and a 400 yen oolong tea. It's a bit pricey for tourists, but the tuna was delicious! If there was a bit more quantity, I would have been more satisfied.

I casually walked into a sushi restaurant and ordered the seafood parent-child bowl, which was very fresh with thick slices of salmon and just the right seasoning of ikura on top of vinegared rice. The miso soup was also delicious with plenty of seaweed. Ah, it was so delicious! A blissful moment. Thank you! I bow my head and say, "Thank you for the meal." Ebisu shime.

I was planning to go to a standing sushi restaurant, but it was crowded with inconsiderate group customers who were taking their time chatting and not finishing their food quickly, causing the turnover to slow down. I got frustrated and decided to look for another restaurant. I found a place recommended by Terry Ito with a sign out front (located behind Marutake). I tried their famous conger eel and it was even better than expected, so tender and delicious! I also used a national discount coupon which was great. The sushi pieces were all large and filling, so I ended up getting full quickly. Next time, I think I'll go for a 2-piece set with conger eel.

This year, I visited a restaurant that specializes in conger eel. Every time, I always order the Hiko-bee Sushi, which is fluffy and has a great fatty taste. Of course, all the other sushi options are delicious too, but I particularly love the ginger here and always end up asking for more. The chef is very kind and his gentle words add to the experience. I always want to support small restaurants like this. Thank you for the wonderful meal! 🌟

On November 14, 2022, I went on a business trip to Tokyo and had sushi for lunch at this place. It was a bit hard to find the restaurant as it looked like a kitchen with a name on the back street. I entered at 12:20 pm and there were 13 customers on the first floor. There was no temperature check, but they had hand sanitizer at the entrance. I was seated at the counter as a solo customer. The sushi I ordered, called Hikobei Sushi for 4500 yen, arrived in 15 minutes. Although the presentation was a bit messy, the quality of the fish, especially the tuna and eel, was good. The staff communicated through earpieces, but they should be mindful of their tone and content. Overall, I was satisfied and full. Thank you for the meal.

Outside Tsukiji Market Street, I was thinking of buying some delicious snacks at Tsukiji Yamahachi and enjoying them with beer at home, when I encountered a grandpa's catch. Since it was a sushi restaurant I had never been to, I decided to go along with the catch. Just down the narrow street next to Tsukiji Yamahachi, there is Hikobei, a sushi restaurant frequented by Terry Ito. Sitting at the counter, I ordered a draft beer for 600 yen and a tamagoyaki for 400 yen. After taking a sip of the beer, I ordered the tempting tuna bowl for 1980 yen, but the chef recommended a special offer for today only at 1500 yen. He said it had the best parts of fatty tuna. The rice used was my favorite Tsuya Hime. It was truly delicious, with a satisfying bite. After one mouthful, my face was filled with smiles. The miso soup was also excellent, with a flavorful broth. I also requested a takeaway of the 300 yen bonito ginger simmer. I could already picture my wife's delighted expression at tonight's drinking snack. The total bill was 2800 yen. I paid with PayPay and said "pepe"! Thank you for the wonderful meal. I will definitely come back!

I went to a hospital near Tsukiji and decided to have lunch in the Tsukiji Outer Market on my way back. After exploring the market, I ended up going to Hikobei. I simply had a tuna rice bowl. The seafood in Tsukiji is really delicious.

It's a lively restaurant. Despite seeming small, there are rooms downstairs. The staff were very polite and welcoming. The sushi had firm and large rice portions. Some of the fish slices were a bit thin. The premium option had large pieces of conger eel and the staff explained that the quality of the fish is different. Sea urchin was a bit scarce this year due to red tides. The egg was described by the chef as having a unique taste without dashi, but it was just a delicious regular egg. Tsukiji is fun, but still so expensive!笑

I visited Hikobei for the first time, a restaurant in Tsukiji Market known for its frequent visits by celebrities. I ordered the tuna bowl, which had thick slices of fish and was very satisfying. Despite living in this world for 27 years, I still can't gauge the right amount of wasabi and ended up crying while eating due to the gap between my senses. Then, the kind waitress, who seemed to sense my dilemma, gave me a tuna simmered dish as a service. Thank you, dear mother. But that's not it. Visited around 2:30 pm on Saturday. Initially got lost, but a kind gentleman helped me find the store. Warm and friendly atmosphere with a motherly figure, a sister with an exotic vibe, and a fatherly presence. Ordered the three-color maguro bowl for 2,100 yen. It arrived shortly after ordering, with miso soup and a sample of maguro simmered in soy sauce. The sashimi had no fishy smell and was delicious. The small rolled omelette was a nice touch. The pickled ginger and vegetables were a perfect palate cleanser. Enjoyed every bite until the end. Considered buying the simmered maguro but hesitated, fearing it would be too filling. Regretted not buying it later. If I come back, I'd like to try the conger eel bowl.

The eel bowl was incredibly delicious. The eel was very tender, sweet, and melted in my mouth. It seems to be run by a couple a little off the main street. As a bonus, they also served a minced tuna dish that was also incredibly tasty.

Hikobei, located in the heart of Tsukiji, is a cozy restaurant known for its fresh seafood bowls and delicious sushi. The red curtain at the entrance stands out on the bustling Namiyoke Street. The interior is more like an izakaya than a traditional sushi restaurant, with a small counter and a few tables. I ordered the "3 kinds of tuna bowl" and it was beautifully presented with medium fatty tuna, lean tuna, and negitoro on top. The addition of extra fatty tuna on top was a nice surprise. The flavors were amazing, especially when paired with wasabi soy sauce. The vinegar rice was also delicious. The service included a tasty dish of "simmered tuna and ginger" which was a perfect match for drinks. The owner recommended trying their eel bowl next time, as it is also a specialty of the restaurant. The restaurant recently reopened after the lifting of the state of emergency, and I look forward to returning to try the eel bowl. Total cost for the meal was 2750 yen.

Unagi donburi and shigure-ni. The eel in the unagi donburi was fluffy and sweet, with a very gentle flavor. In addition to akami tuna, there was also toro (complimentary) sashimi. Each piece was large, with a rich tuna flavor, very delicious. The rice was vinegared, but for the eel, non-vinegared rice might have been better. The shigure-ni had a strong ginger flavor, with a bold punch. It would also be delicious as a topping for rice or sandwiched in toast. But the best pairing would probably be with beer (couldn't drink since it was during work). They also have a great selection of sake! The grilled tuna collar the man next to me ordered looked really delicious... I'll come back on Saturday to try each dish separately with a beer.

Recently, I tend to visit Tsukiji often because all the shops are not crowded, there are few people around, and you can relax. I was invited by a friendly female caller and entered the shop. It seems to be a shop famous for conger eel. I ordered nigiri sushi, and the conger eel was simmered well enough to melt in my mouth and was delicious. It was a very hot day, and the toppings ended up getting warm, which was a shame. (But it couldn't be helped as the windows were fully open for ventilation.)

(2020.06.25) Tsukiji Day 2 Although there are fewer people walking around Tsukiji outside the market compared to yesterday, it seems that people are slowly starting to return to tourist spots as the travel restrictions across prefectures have been lifted. It will take some time to fully return to normal. Restaurants are trying their best to attract customers by saying things like "You can sit right away" or "You can sit comfortably", but one lady approached me and recommended a sushi restaurant called "Hikobei" at the back of the building. She was a bit older than me and had a clean and kind appearance, and her gentle tone was very pleasant. Intrigued by her recommendation of the delicious conger eel, I decided to visit the restaurant. The menu at the restaurant featured conger eel on all the usual sushi dishes, as well as a special mixed bowl with conger eel and tuna called the "Pride Bowl". The main conger eel had been carefully prepared by removing the sliminess from the skin, simmering it for about 10 hours, and letting it sit for a day. The result was a tender and flavorful conger eel that was so soft you couldn't pick it up with chopsticks. The elegant taste of the simmered broth soaked into the conger eel, and I learned that before the pandemic, they used to prepare around 500kg of conger eel each month due to its popularity.

I went to Hikobei for my second stop in Tsukiji exploration! I usually buy drinks here and eat while walking around, but this time I decided to dine in. Even though I had already eaten sushi, I ordered the Hikobei Sushi Set for one person. I sipped on some sake while waiting. The sushi that came out was big and looked delicious. The variety of toppings included conger eel, botan shrimp, sea urchin, salmon roe, fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, lean tuna, yellowtail, and scallop. The conger eel was fluffy and flavorful, with no bones to worry about. I especially enjoyed the trio of fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, and lean tuna, each offering a different taste and texture. Even though I ordered the small rice portion, the large toppings made each piece very satisfying to eat. It was a delightful experience enjoying delicious sushi while chatting with the head chef and staff!

It was a typical disappointing restaurant catering to Tsukiji tourists. They served soggy frozen tuna and thinly sliced, overly sweet eel rice bowl. Despite being cautious, I still ended up at this kind of place. The prices were reasonable, but overall it was a very disappointing restaurant, including the service.

[Shonan Kazuya's SNS Information] Twitter Instagram Blog [Review Content Here] Holiday Food Walk *Late December Food Walk Review With all my work for 2018 completed, I decided to go out on the first day of the new year. Last year, I visited Tsukiji Market, but this year, with the market moving to Toyosu, I wondered if I should go there instead. Or perhaps I should visit Ameyoko, which is bustling with activity at the end of the year? If I were to buy sweets, Ameyoko would be fine, but for seafood, Tsukiji or Toyosu would be better. Since the shops inside Tsukiji are still operating outside, I decided to go to Tsukiji again this year. To minimize wasted time, I had already decided on the shops to visit. I left home before 8 am and arrived at Tsukiji around 9:20 am. Although it wasn't peak time yet, many customers were already shopping outside Tsukiji Market. My first stop was for breakfast at a hidden sushi restaurant called "Hikobei," located about a 3-minute walk east from Tsukiji Market Station A1 exit on the Oedo Subway Line. While there are shops along the main street, the main restaurant is a hidden gem in the back alley. It was recommended by Terry Ito on the TBS program "The Best Restaurant in Life." When I told the male staff member outside that I wanted to dine there, the back alley restaurant was already full of customers. Another staff member (perhaps the manager) came out and offered a seat along the main street. I didn't mind as long as I could eat. I entered the restaurant. There were only a few seats at the counter, and only the one I sat at was available. The staff member asked if I had seen the restaurant on TV, to which I replied that I had. The influence of TV seemed significant. While I sometimes use TV or magazines as a reference for food walks, I don't exclusively aim to dine at places featured there. It felt a bit embarrassing to join the ranks of fickle customers, but I endured it for the sake of delicious food. The Hikobei Special set included 9 pieces with a big tuna belly, egg, and of course, anago sushi. The anago sushi was soft and melted in the mouth. It was indeed of high quality compared to what I've had before. The toro sashimi on top of the akami is a service from the restaurant. Eating this was a luxurious experience. The sweet and plump shrimp and the melty toro were delicious. It was a very luxurious breakfast. It was rare to have simmered oyster sushi. The anago's deliciousness lived up to the rumors. I'm curious about the anago donburi as well. Although the restaurant was crowded, it's better to visit a reputable establishment rather than wait in a half-hearted line and pay a high price for a meal. The staff were very friendly and provided good service. This is just the beginning; the real adventure continues! I will continue my tour of Tsukiji. The next day, I will go to buy gifts for a mochi pounding event at my relative's house. [Hikobei] Chuo-ku, Tsukiji 4-10-13 TEL 03-6278-8565 9:30 am - 3:00 pm Closed on Wednesdays *Open on Wednesdays if it's a public holiday
