Jubilo
I used to work in the Tama area of Tokyo for a while. I would take the JR Nambu Line from Kashimada to Tachikawa, all the way to the final stop in Tachikawa. Tachikawa, Hachioji, sometimes Fuchu and Kokubunji as well... By some twist of fate, I ended up working there. During my commute to Tama, I would often visit a favorite shop of mine that is part of the same series as this one. It's a bakery inside JR Tachikawa station, where you can buy freshly baked bread while transferring from the Nambu Line to the Chuo Line. It's amazing that you can buy freshly baked bread inside the station. If the timing is right, you can buy soft and fragrant bread. Among the various breads at Quignon, my favorite was the scones. Scones are usually decently tasty, but they can be a bit dry and hard to eat, right? However, Quignon's scones are made with a lot of cream, so they are milky and moist. Seriously, you can eat them without coffee or tea, they are that moist. It was shocking when I first tried them. They completely overturned my concept of scones! Quignon has several shops along the Chuo Line, including in Koganei, Kokubunji, and Kokuritsu. I had always wanted to visit their Ueno shop, and finally had the chance to go there. The shop is located inside Echika Ueno, right next to the stairs leading to platforms 11 and 12 where the Joban Line comes and goes. It's a takeout-only shop, with no seating area. In addition to their regular items like plain scones and chocolate scones, they also have about three seasonal scones available at all times. The variety of scones changes slightly depending on the season, so there's the fun of repeating visits to Quignon. At the Tachikawa shop, you choose the bread yourself and place it on a tray, but at the Ueno shop, you order and the staff picks it up for you. This style makes me a little uncomfortable... the pressure of "Please place your order" (sweat). Today, I took out about three scones. They were put in a plastic bag for me. Oh, this shape. They also have round scones, but Quignon's scones are triangular. Warm them in a 500W microwave for about 20 seconds, and they become fluffy and fragrant. So, let's dig in! - Strawberry Scone (230 yen including tax) Limited edition for December and January. The strawberry scone goes perfectly with the milky scone. The acidity of the strawberry adds a nice touch. - Apple Cinnamon Scone (230 yen including tax) Limited edition from December to February. The moist scone with cinnamon has a pleasant aroma. The dry apple adds a crunchy texture, sweetness, and acidity. - Yuzu Scone This is a limited edition for December and January. The refreshing aroma of citrus fruits is delightful. It also contains yuzu peels, providing a generous amount of acidity and a subtle sweetness. Winter limited scones, enjoyable and delicious scones! Yes, Quignon's scones are delicious no matter how many times you eat them. It's worth it to switch to Ueno Station instead of Tokyo Station for these! Thank you for the meal.
