Exploring Tokyo Izakaya! Taito Ward, Yushima Edition. Specializing in Oyster Hot Pot, a popular seafood izakaya named "Sakadokoro Tamazen" was visited for the first time! On a cold winter day with overcast skies, a group of gourmet enthusiasts gathered for an off-meeting at this renowned restaurant known for its fresh seafood and signature Oyster Hot Pot. Located in Yushima, this establishment has been in business since 1984 and is a hidden gem loved by many customers. The menu includes a variety of dishes such as sashimi platter, Oyster Fry, and Stuffed Shishito Peppers. The highlight of the meal was the Oyster Hot Pot, which was rich in flavor and featured generous portions of plump oysters. The group was impressed by the exquisite taste and quality of the food, and everyone left the restaurant satisfied and eager to return for more delicious meals.

I visited for the first time and regretted not coming here sooner. The sashimi platter was delicious and reasonably priced, but the highlight was definitely the famous oyster hot pot. It was packed with so many oysters! I've never had a hot pot with such a generous amount of oysters before. Adjusting the miso to my liking made it even better. It goes perfectly with alcohol. The retro Showa era atmosphere of the restaurant is also very comforting. I definitely want to come back to this place again.

However, the members other than me are different every time. Personally, I really enjoy it. Interestingly, we end up ordering the same dishes. So, I consciously try to order 1-2 different items. Well, they are all delicious so it's not a problem... I will visit again next month. Thank you for the meal.

Reasonably priced and cozy traditional izakaya. The sashimi platter, priced around 1300 yen, offers a generous portion. You can enjoy smoking while savoring home-style dishes, making it a place you'll want to visit regularly. Be cautious of the green chili peppers served with somen noodles, as they are extremely spicy.

Specialty dish, Oyster Clay Pot. It's delicious even in the summer. The flavor deepens as you eat, which is irresistible. It pairs well with a cold highball. Of course, the sashimi platter, tempura, and fried foods are also delicious and reliable. Great value for the price.

This is a great value restaurant. Start with the assorted sashimi, then try the fried dumplings, crab miso, corn tempura, sweet potato tempura, and finish with grilled firefly squid. I am satisfied and will definitely come back soon. I already have another reservation booked.

In the midst of the scorching heat, after sweating profusely and hopping between two bars in Ameyoko, I finally arrived at this place. Despite being the first one to arrive, I somehow ended up being the last one. After being laughed at by the women who had already arrived, we ordered drinks here. This shop, frequented by many reviewers, is known for its oyster hot pot, but the sashimi is also fantastic. Picking out about 1.5 servings for 3000 yen, we were excited even before trying it, as a platter of around 10 types of sashimi, with 3 slices each, was served. Sharing a bottle of shochu while enjoying the sashimi, we felt our bonds growing stronger, as stated in the menu.

I visited again! The food is still delicious! However, the restaurant is so cold, I wonder if the staff is not cold... I wanted to stay longer but it was too cold, so I had to leave. It's so cold, maybe I should have hot pot in this scorching heat haha. The potato fries here are made from fresh potatoes, they feel like fried chicken, but more moist and not crispy, but the taste is delicious! The edamame is always good and the salted fish roe was also delicious! Next time, I'll go for the hot pot haha. Thank you for the meal!

First time visiting this restaurant! It has a really nice atmosphere♡ I wonder if it's just for winter? There are quite a few types of hot pot dishes, so I have high expectations! The sashimi assortment starts from 1650 yen per person and comes with 3 slices of each type, so it's perfect for sharing among 3 people! The tuna was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality at this price. The warm tofu had a flavorful broth, which made it a great accompaniment to sake! The meat-wrapped long green pepper was so tasty!! We dipped it in the sauce provided! The edamame was in season and tasted so much better than frozen ones! I was tempted to order more! It was the first time this year! The sweet potato tempura was soft and homemade. The food and ambiance of the restaurant were excellent, but the staff... I couldn't help but think they could be a bit more friendly... Nevertheless, the food was delicious, so thank you for the meal! ✨️

The restaurant is famous for its oyster hot pot. The corn tempura was incredibly delicious, and the salt was tasty too. I enjoyed dipping the shrimp in it. They also offer reasonably priced Hakushu whiskey, which was a nice touch. The sashimi was also delicious. I want to come back in winter to try the oyster hot pot.

After a long time, I arrived early at Ueno Hirokoji for a party. The organizer mentioned they were having a quick drink until the next party, so we joined in for a 30-minute one-drink showdown. I can't remember the last time we met... Maybe it was a year or two ago? Looking at my food log, it seems like it was a year-end party 6-7 years ago! The person who arrived first had already ordered a bottle of beer, sashimi, and miso stir-fry. They also brought out glasses and a simmered dish as an appetizer. The total cost was unclear, but it was around 1000 yen per person for splitting the bill. It wasn't a set course, so it was a bit pricier, but considering the quality and affordability of the drinks, it's still a recommended place to enjoy.
- Taste: The sashimi, especially the yellowtail, was fresh with just the right amount of fat, making it delicious. The simmered dish (made with hijiki seaweed, lotus root, carrot, konjac, and bamboo shoots) had a rich flavor that paired well with alcohol. The eggplant miso stir-fry was also rich in flavor and a perfect match for drinks.
- Evaluation: Regardless of what you order, the seasoning is perfect for alcohol and reasonably priced. The place is often crowded with regular customers, so it's best to come early or make a reservation. The service might seem a bit curt unless you become a regular... Overall, the cost-performance ratio is slightly higher than the set course, so it's worth reconsidering. This long-established restaurant gets a slightly higher overall rating of +0.1.

The sashimi is delicious! The slightly unfriendly staff somehow matches the atmosphere of the restaurant, making it strangely charming. Personally, I didn't find this attitude off-putting. It's a place where you can feel relaxed and want to visit again.

This is a restaurant located a 2-minute walk from Ueno Hirokoji to Kasuga Street towards Yushima Tenjin. The exterior looks quite worn out, but the interior is lively with regulars and businessmen enjoying themselves. It has a cozy izakaya atmosphere and serves typical izakaya dishes. I stumbled upon this place by chance on a Wednesday night around 9 pm after my first party. There were two groups of customers already inside. The interior was exactly like what I had seen on TV. Besides the standard izakaya menu, there were also recommended dishes written on a whiteboard, making it a tempting lineup. Despite it being my second party, I ended up ordering more food than I thought I would. We started with a toast with Asahi beer and a carbonated shochu called "Gold Black Tansan." It had a rich and sharp taste, but being a carbonated drink, I couldn't fully appreciate it. Next time, I'll give it another try. The small dish of pickled clams was unexpectedly generous in portion and had a good vinegar miso flavor. The freshly fried Satsuma-age was hot and crispy, perfect with ponzu sauce. The assorted skewers were also substantial, with a noticeable coarse bread crumb coating. We shared and enjoyed the bell pepper, sweet potato, and chicken skewers. Unfortunately, I was too full from the second party and missed out on trying many other dishes. Stay tuned for the following dishes: an assorted sashimi plate and a hot pot of oysters. These dishes are said to be incredibly fresh and generous in portion. I will definitely be revisiting this place. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Tamazen, a long-awaited restaurant, with a senior who has visited there many times. We enjoyed the classic oyster hotpot and sashimi, which were delicious! Even just that was enough to fill us up, but we added fried river shrimp and water eggplant, and we were very satisfied! There are many classic izakaya menu items, and it is a great izakaya that cannot be fully described in one visit. The restaurant is always full, so we had to be a little considerate of the staff, but we had a great time and would love to visit again.

I slipped in at the end of the oyster hot pot and enjoyed it. (It seems that you can make a reservation in advance for frozen oysters all year round) There are also chicken sukiyaki hot pot and gyoza hot pot. We ordered oyster hot pot (one serving), sashimi platter, tempura of fresh bamboo shoots, horse mackerel fry, two large bottles of beer, two lemon highballs, and two oolong teas. We started with tempura and fry. The fresh bamboo shoots were fragrant and plentiful. The batter was lighter than it looked. The horse mackerel fry consisted of three small pieces, but the flesh was thick and delicious! The batter was slightly thick, but the flesh was not overpowered at all. I was tempted, and the table next to us promptly ordered tempura and fry (laughs). The sashimi platter is determined by the number of people, but it was sufficient. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and firm! The mackerel lightly seared on the surface was excellent. So far, the satisfaction level was quite high, but when the hot pot arrived, it was a surprise! Well, I knew what to expect when I went, but seeing the real thing was still surprising, right? This is one serving, you know? How many oysters are in there? The staff cooks it and serves it when it's ready, saying "Here you go," so customers are not allowed to touch it. These oysters don't shrink at all! If you like a light taste, you can enjoy the oysters' flavor without melting the embankment. If you melt it all, it might be too salty. You can order udon or zosui as a finishing touch. It's a generous portion. I'm stuffed. By the way, the hot pot is 1980 yen, and the sashimi platter is 2000 yen. The total bill for two people was just a little over a 10,000 yen bill. It's quite a difficult restaurant to make a reservation at.

I made a reservation a month and a half ago. It's already March so it doesn't really feel like hot pot season (laughs), but there were plenty of oysters! In this photo, it looks like a serving for one person. The menu seems to be the same as usual, but everything looks delicious. Oyster hot pot, assorted sashimi, sweet potato tempura. The sashimi was delicious. Fresh and thick slices were lined up. The sea bream had a smooth texture, and the tuna, salmon, and others were very satisfying. And the oysters! In a clay pot, with big chunks of meat and watercress. There were also bamboo shoots. Even though it's not winter, I would love to come back here for the oyster hot pot. Thank you for the meal.

Dinner at Tamazen:
- Kaki no Dote Nabe (Oyster Hot Pot) ¥1980
- Sashimi Assortment ¥3000 (serves 3)
- Corn Tempura ¥650
- Octopus Vinegar ¥350
Located just a 2-minute walk from Yushima Station, Tamazen is a retro-style izakaya tucked away in a back alley. It is an old-fashioned, traditional izakaya that has even been featured in Yoshida Ru's drinking show. The highlight of the day is definitely the "Kaki no Dote Nabe" for oyster lovers. But before that, we started with some appetizers. A must-order is the "Sashimi Assortment" which was served in a generous portion enough for 3 people. The variety of sashimi was delicious and beautifully presented. The serving size of the hot pot was surprisingly huge. We ordered two portions for 3 people, but it was more than enough. The hot pot is filled with plenty of oysters, along with vegetables like cabbage, green onion, burdock, fish cake, mushrooms, and fried tofu. We enjoyed trying different ingredients throughout the meal. The miso surrounding the hot pot adds a rich flavor as it melts. For dessert, we chose Ojiya, which was a perfect ending to the meal. We ate and drank heartily, spending less than ¥5000 per person. Each dish has a generous portion, so it's best enjoyed with friends in a lively atmosphere.

It feels like déjà vu, but it's a different day and once again treated to a meal. Last time it was white fish, but today we have firefly squid and surf clam. Also ordered eggplant and shishito peppers, and couldn't resist getting some shiitake mushrooms too. Wow, the surf clam is unbelievably delicious, it just melts in your mouth. The eggplant and shishito peppers are always a safe choice, and the shiitake mushrooms are like a sumo wrestler's victory toast! The oysters were piled up so high that everyone I brought with me burst out laughing and took tons of photos. That's how word spreads, huh...

Today, I brought a guest to a restaurant that I had been wanting to visit for a while. I made a reservation for 3 people, specifying 1.5 servings of sashimi and 2 servings of hot pot. The amount of oysters served made me wonder what was going on, it seemed like a mistake. The sashimi was thickly cut and even the guest from the seaside was impressed. Even the white fish that I usually don't like was delicious, as well as the oil-free eggplant, meat-wrapped peppers, fried oysters, and hot pot. There were so many dishes that I couldn't even count. I already made a reservation to bring another guest next month, I can't wait to go back.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant ever since I saw it in an online article. Finally, my wish came true with a girls' night out in Yushima. We made sure to make a reservation in advance. It would have been torture if we had gone all the way to Yushima after work and couldn't get a table. The place was packed with customers about an hour after we arrived, showing just how popular it is. We ordered Asahi beer, which was surprisingly affordable at 550 yen for a large bottle. We also ordered some delicious white shrimp tempura and marinated mackerel from the whiteboard menu as appetizers while waiting for our hot pot. The tempura was crispy and tasty, and the marinated mackerel was just the way I like it. We had pre-ordered the oyster hot pot when making our reservation, as it is the main dish and needs to be reserved in advance. The hot pot arrived with a generous amount of oysters, making us all very happy. The miso broth surrounding the oysters smelled amazing and made us all hungry. The staff took care of the hot pot throughout the meal, which was greatly appreciated. The hot pot was filled with oysters and other ingredients, making it very filling and delicious. We finished off the meal with some rice, which the staff also served for us. Despite eating a lot and drinking some alcohol, the bill came out to be around 5000 yen per person, which was great value for such a high-quality meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and elegant, making it a perfect place for a special meal. I will definitely be visiting again in the future!

I wanted to eat famous oyster hot pot, so I made a reservation three months ago and finally visited. A huge amount of oysters, which didn't seem like just two servings, came out in the pot, and it was a delight for oyster lovers. I enjoyed melting miso and eating an overwhelming amount of plump oysters. Besides oysters, the sashimi (with a generous amount and great cost performance) and the crab omelette were also delicious!
