Yesterday, I had some time for lunch around Ueno. I was considering going to the Atre near the station or trying the Thai cuisine under the elevated tracks in Ameyoko. In the end, I decided to go to "Yang Guifei Yangtanguan," which I had planned to visit from the beginning. The name of the restaurant is a stylish play on "Yang Guifei." The vinyl at the entrance also has a Chinese vibe. When I entered, I was surprised by how clean and neat it looked. Since I was dining alone, I was guided to the counter seats. I was instructed to order from my smartphone in Chinese. The process was simple. I scanned the QR code on the table (called "二维码" in Chinese) to access the menu and placed my order with a press of a button. It's nice that you can order from the regular menu even during lunchtime. As I was dining alone, I opted for the lunch lamb soup. I initially planned to order the lamb offal soup, but somehow I felt like having meat instead of offal. When the dish arrived, it looked like this. The large bowl was reassuring! The soup, poured to the brim, had the aroma of lamb. There was plenty of coriander in it. This time, I chose rice instead of naan. It came with pickles. The soup was filled with tender lamb meat. Slurping the soup made me break into a sweat. It felt like my body, weakened by the summer air conditioning, was coming back to life. They mentioned, "If you find the taste mild, feel free to add salt and pepper," but it was not mild at all! It had a strong salty flavor, yet it was simple and delicious. The table's lamb oil chili oil was delicious too! The chili oil, with the flavor of lamb oil, was not only great when added to the soup but also delicious on its own, so I ended up putting it on my rice and eating it. If only they sold this chili oil separately. The payment was convenient as they accepted PayPay.

I made a reservation around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and visited the restaurant. There were many dishes using lamb, and as a lamb lover, I was thrilled. Especially, the lamb dumplings and soup with coriander were delicious. If you don't mind lamb, I highly recommend trying this restaurant at least once.

Sheep offal soup set 880 yen Sheep meat skewer 200 yen * 2 pieces During lunch, there is a great value lunch set available. The sheep offal soup set (sheep soup with offal, served with naan and pickles) is 880 yen, while the regular sheep meat soup set is 1180 yen. The sheep soup here tasted similar to what I had in Shandong Province when I took the first sip. Upon some research, I found out that the sheep soup in this restaurant has a flavor similar to the Northeastern region of China, resembling that of Shandong, with a relatively light seasoning overall. However, the aroma and aftertaste were slightly lacking compared to the authentic Chinese version. The variety of offal is relatively limited, with only sheep tripe and heart included. The naan is similar to Hua Juan, with green onions inside and a salty taste. It tastes delicious on its own, but the flavor doesn't complement the sheep soup very well. The sheep meat skewers are made from regular sheep leg meat, not too fatty, with a good chewy texture and tasty flavor. Overall, the food is close to the authentic Chinese taste, and the lunch set is reasonably priced (dinner can be a bit expensive). I believe you won't be disappointed if you visit this restaurant.

This is my second visit in a week! The spare ribs are amazing. They have both grilled and boiled options, but personally I recommend the grilled ones with a strong cumin flavor. We visited with four people and the spare ribs disappeared in an instant. There are also various other lamb dishes available, so I definitely want to visit this restaurant again!

This is my first visit. As someone who loves lamb meat, this might be the perfect restaurant for me. The lamb chop was delicious with a strong cumin flavor. Other dishes like lamb shank were also delicious. I plan to invite my friends and revisit soon.

On June 9, 2023 (Friday) for dinner, I took the Shinkansen from Miyagi to Tokyo to match my partner's work end time. We requested to eat at this place: - All sheep hot pot... All sheep hot pot (medium)... Soup with sheep meat, bones, organs, tongue, and heart - Grilled sheep spare ribs - Spinach and sheep meat salad - Stir-fried sheep meat and leeks - Boiled sheep tripe We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful taste of sheep.

Located right near Ueno-Okachimachi Station, this place has a semi-basement feel to it. It's across from Okachimachi Eizushi, and it's the third sheep specialty store to open in just 10 days. They offer a variety of dishes like rare lamb, grilled lamb, and stewed lamb. When I visited in the early afternoon, there were about 5-6 groups of customers already there. The interior has a counter with more than 10 seats and table seating. The staff greets you in Japanese at first, but then switches to Chinese. I ordered the lamb soup, stir-fried lamb with leeks set meal, and two bottled beers. The lamb soup was delicious with plenty of lamb meat and cilantro. The stir-fried lamb with leeks was also tasty, although the rice was a bit lacking. The cold edamame stir-fry that came with it was spicy and paired well with the beer. The bottled beer was served at room temperature, which was a bit unexpected. Overall, the food was great and I would definitely come back, maybe next time I'll try a lemon sour. The restroom is unisex, and they accept PayPay.

On Friday night, I made plans to have dinner with a friend and we decided to go to Ueno without a reservation. I heard that Chinese cuisine is popular around this area, so we were wandering around looking for a place when we came across this restaurant. It seemed like it had recently opened, the restaurant wasn't very big but it had a clean and welcoming atmosphere, with all the tables full. According to my Chinese friend, the food here is authentic Chinese cuisine, so we decided to give it a try. If you don't drink alcohol, you can enjoy plenty of meat dishes and side dishes until you're full for around 3000 yen per person, which I think is a great deal.

Lamb soup with naan for 1,180 yen. The lamb soup had plenty of meat in it, which was surprising. The taste of the soup was gentle and nice. You can adjust the flavor with salt, pepper, and special spicy oil. The naan was a bit hard compared to what I imagined. I didn't quite understand why pickles were served with it. The restaurant was filled with the smell of lamb, so if you don't like the smell of meat, you might want to reconsider. However, people who don't like the smell of meat probably wouldn't come to this restaurant anyway. Orders inside the restaurant are placed through a QR code on your phone. Payment with PayPay is accepted.

This is my second visit, but for some reason, I occasionally crave the taste. There is a famous restaurant in the Chinatown area, especially in the Singapore Noodle Poker Center, and compared to the chewy store I visited several times, the soup is milder, perhaps tailored for Japanese tastes. However, I still couldn't resist the temptation of the smell of lamb. Please make the broth richer. Thank you for the meal.

Lunch was available on the holiday. The soup contained offal, and there was no rice, but I had a naan with green onions to get some carbs. The restaurant is semi-underground, with both counter and table seating, and the interior is clean and welcoming for solo female diners. It is a chain restaurant. If you are sensitive to the smell of lamb, add more salt. Also, adding spicy oil can help reduce the smell. I ended up adding quite a bit of salt. I went because lamb is good for the body, and indeed, I felt warm afterwards. (Maybe because of the spiciness?) There was a lot of Chinese conversation in the restaurant, which gave me a taste of the local atmosphere. The set meal is reasonably priced at 880 yen, so I would like to go back again. "Hao hao."

It is located about a 1-minute walk from Ueno Station. The interior of the restaurant consists of a long counter and several 4-person tables. I sat at the counter. The atmosphere inside the restaurant, including the background music, customers, and staff, was mostly Chinese. Each table had a card with a QR code, which I scanned with my smartphone to access the menu and place my order. I chose the lamb offal soup with naan. The soup is made by boiling lamb stomach and organs in lamb bone broth, which is a popular dish in northern China. When I took a sip without adding anything, it had a delicate and light flavor. I then added salt, vinegar, pepper, and special chili oil to adjust the taste to my liking. Personally, I felt that a bit more meat in the soup would be better, but that can be supplemented with the lamb skewers on the menu. I believe that lamb soup, starting from this restaurant, will become a trend in Japan.

I went to the Yang Guifei Sheep Hot Spring in Ueno and tried their lamb soup with bread for 1180 yen. The traditional Chinese dish "Yangtang" was delicious. Yangtang is a soup made by simmering lamb meat and bones for a long time. The soup had plenty of meat in it and was very tasty. I ate it with bread similar to oyaki. It was guilt-free like ramen, so I almost finished the soup completely.

The main dish is sheep hot pot, but looking at the menu, I couldn't understand anything...! When I asked the staff, they explained that sheep offal hot pot includes sheep meat and offal, while sheep meat hot pot only has sheep meat. I'm not a fan of offal, so I chose the sheep meat hot pot. I tried a bit of the sheep offal hot pot my companion ordered, and the offal was tender and easy to eat! The set came with pickles for the cold dish and fried bread for the naan, which was chewy inside. The sheep hot pot had a gentle flavor and warmed my body up nicely.

Just before passing through Ameyoko at Ueno Station, there is a restaurant located in a crowded area. Although the shop is described as being underground, the entrance is actually at ground level, which caused me a moment of confusion. Upon opening the vinyl curtain door, I was greeted by a warm mist. It was a cold day, so just the steam alone helped warm me up. However, the shop had mostly counter seating, so there wasn't much space between neighboring seats, making it a bit uncomfortable. About 70% of the customers seemed to be foreigners, so they may not mind as much... Ordering was done through a QR code with Japanese text, so it was not a problem. I ordered the lamb soup and fried bread set. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. The soup was quite substantial, with a strong aroma of lamb that is not often found in Japan. However, the soup itself was simple in flavor, which paired well with the slightly crispy fried bread. The meat also had a unique aroma, but as I continued eating, it blended well with the soup. Salt, chili oil, and vinegar were available on the table for seasoning. I would like to visit again on a cold day.

Sunday lunchtime. When you open the door, you are enveloped in a strong sheep smell at this restaurant. The unfamiliar words flying around inside make it feel like Chinatown. The menu and ordering are done by scanning the QR code on the table. I finally ordered the "sheep meat soup" and "grilled lamb skewers" that I had been curious about. There is also a soup called "sheep offal soup" with sheep offal as the main ingredient, but I decided to pass on it this time. "Yangtan" is a soup made with sheep meat and organs. Some may feel uneasy about the smell. The soup has a wild aroma, quite unique. It comes in a large bowl with a milky white soup overflowing with lots of meat. And it's so tender! The cilantro and green onions topping help to balance out the sheep flavor. The addictive soup is irresistible, and you can also enjoy changing the flavor with table condiments. The bread that comes with it, similar to naan, with green onions mixed in, has a nice salty taste and tastes delicious when dipped in the soup. In the end, the large amount of soup made it impossible to finish, but I thoroughly enjoyed the sheep. The long iron skewer with lamb meat pierced on it, seasoned with cumin, salt, and chili. Despite the simple seasoning, it has a delicious taste. This would be great with beer at night for sure. About half of the customers are probably Chinese. The staff are also Chinese. Truly authentic Chinese cuisine! It was amazing. By the way, my right hand and stomach were emitting a strong "sheep smell" until the evening. But this Yangtan... it's addictive!

This shop serves a rare sheep hot pot in Japan. It is located in a back alley near Ameyoko, close to Okachimachi Station. When you enter the shop, you can hear Chinese being spoken, giving it an authentic feel. You order your food using a QR code on your phone. The main dishes include "Sheep Hot Pot (1,180 yen)" with sheep meat and "Sheep Offal Hot Pot" for under 1,000 yen. Sheep hot pot is said to warm the body and have benefits for dieting and anti-aging. When the food arrives, you get a bowl full of soup with plenty of tender sheep meat inside! The gentle flavor really feels like it's good for your body. You can adjust the taste with salt or chili oil, but personally, I found it delicious as it is. The special naan bread that comes with it has a salty flavor that pairs well with the soup. With plenty of sheep meat inside and such a great taste, it's worth paying over 1,000 yen. Eating this on a day when you're feeling under the weather would surely make you feel better right away. I was very satisfied with the sheep hot pot. Just be aware that you can taste the unique flavor of the spices, so if you're not a fan, take note. Also, the chili oil provided is quite spicy, so it's best to add it little by little.

[Shop Name] Yang Guifei Lamb Soup Restaurant[Nearest Station] 3 minutes walk from Ueno Okachimachi Station, 4 minutes walk from Ueno Hirokoji Station[Budget] 880 yen - 1180 yenVisited in March 2023[About the Shop] During the weekday lunch hours, I walked around the Okachimachi Station area looking for a place to eat. I noticed a shop in the back alleys of the Ameyoko area that seemed to focus on lamb dishes. I couldn't quite understand the lunch menu displayed outside the shop, but decided to go in anyway. The shop was located slightly underground, with stairs leading down to the seating area. Upon informing the staff of my arrival, I was directed to sit at an available counter seat. There was no specific announcement, but it seemed like the ordering system involved scanning a QR code at each table with a smartphone. This method of ordering has become more common, but it was surprising to see no instructions provided. Perhaps it has become so common that it is expected. As I pondered this, I looked around the shop. Behind the counter, I could see the kitchen where the staff were preparing the food. The customers consisted of solo female diners, female groups, and solo male diners in their 20s to 30s. There were also many regulars of Asian descent, adding to the authentic atmosphere.[About the Food]★ Lamb Offal Soup 880 yenI scanned the QR code with my smartphone and quickly looked through the lunch menu. The recommended dish seemed to be the "Lamb Offal Soup," so I ordered it without fully understanding what it was. I chose the naan bread as my side. After a short wait, the food was served. Alongside the main Lamb Offal Soup, there was naan bread and pickled mustard greens as side dishes. The soup, which I initially thought contained noodles, actually had lamb offal in it. The rich flavor of the lamb was enhanced by the well-seasoned broth, warming me up from the inside. The naan bread had a chewy texture similar to steamed buns, providing a satisfying fullness. The condiments like lamb oil chili sauce on the table allowed for customization of the taste, which was a nice touch. The pickled mustard greens were quite salty and seemed to be for flavor variation rather than pairing with the soup. After finishing my meal, I paid at the counter in the back of the shop and left. It was a satisfying meal.

There are many Chinese restaurants around here. The lamb hot pot was delicious, just like the one I had in China. The lamb meat has a unique taste, but I think those who like it will love it. It's also full of collagen. Despite being a fairly large bowl, I finished it easily.

❑Yokihi Yangtangguan - A popular lamb soup restaurant among Chinese residents in Japan that I had been curious about after seeing on SNS. Orders are placed directly through a QR code menu on your smartphone. The lamb soup was served in about 7 minutes. ◉ Lamb Soup ¥1100: There are options with lamb offal and just meat, but the base soup is the same with different ingredients. The meat-only option had tenderly cooked mutton that was flavorful with a slight lamb taste. It was enjoyable to customize the taste with the special lamb oil chili sauce and vinegar on the table. The special naan bread in the set was a bit on the soft side, but surprisingly paired well when dipped in the soup. ◉ Cumin Lamb Stir-Fry Set ¥980: Listed as a weekly lunch special, but seemed like a regular item. The ratio of onions was high probably due to the cost of lamb meat. It had a hint of spiciness from chili, but not overpowering, and the combination of cumin and mutton made it a satisfying meal. The included soup was lamb offal mixed soup, which was okay. The seating comfort was notably poor, so I ended up just having lunch instead of planning to drink lightly in the afternoon. The customers and staff seemed predominantly Chinese, catering more towards locals, so expectations beyond the food might differ. (3.43⇒3.44)

After visiting the science museum, I wanted to eat lamb so I came here. I ordered using the QR code on my smartphone. I started with braised lamb shank and had a highball but wanted to try an aged liquor. The stir-fried lamb and bean sprouts in vinegar sauce was refreshing. Then I had the whole lamb hotpot with plenty of lamb offal, which had a gentle flavor. The grilled lamb skewers were classic in taste, while the lamb kidney skewers might not be for those who dislike the taste of kidneys. The restaurant was clean and casual, and all the customers were of Chinese descent from start to finish.
