*Waiting Time*
I arrived on Saturday at 12:00 and was the 4th in line. The place was probably full right after it opened at 11:30. I was able to get in without waiting at 12:30. I was seated at 12:30, served my bowl at 12:45, and finished eating by 13:10.
*Order & Price*
I ordered the tempura set meal for 1,430 yen.
*Atmosphere*
The place had a clean and fresh feel as it had just opened. There were counter seats, tables, and it seemed like there were also tatami mat seating at the back. The counter seats offer a good view of the inside. There were goldfish which added a relaxing touch. It seemed like there were many regular customers. The owner had many patches on their hands, which made me realize it must be a tough job.
*Service*
There were no papers to write your name on. One person was seated at the counter, and a group of 3 who arrived after me were seated before me. Since it might feel awkward to occupy a 4-person table alone, it was understandable. The warm tea was a nice touch.
*Impressions*
This is a restaurant owned by an acquaintance of an acquaintance. I had heard about it being in Higashi-Jujo about 3 years ago but never had the chance to visit. Finally, I visited after it moved to Akabane. The plates were all lovely. The plate for the assorted tempura was big and gave a luxurious impression. The miso soup was a red clam soup. The tempura, in general, had a light and crispy texture, giving a homey and nostalgic feeling. The dipping sauce was mild, with the coarse salt being a nice touch. The pickles were a mix of pickled shiba-zuke and thinly sliced cucumber with a mild and delicious flavor. The shrimp was served alive and was small but plump and tender, very tasty even down to the tail. The kisu fish was light in flavor but tender. The rape blossoms had a good balance of bitterness. The eggplant was small but tender. The kakiage had small cuts of squid, shrimp, and leeks, with the main focus being the tempura batter. The pumpkin was thick, plump, sweet, and delicious. The rice was shiny and delicious, and even though I asked for a small portion, it felt like a regular serving.
*Expectations*
The highlights were the shrimp, pumpkin, pickles, rice, and coarse salt. Overall, the ingredients were small in size, and there was a lot of batter. I thought it might have been better with a thinner and crispier batter. If I have the chance to go again, I would like to try the tempura rice bowl.
