Located right near Yushima Station, there is a Nepalese restaurant that I had never checked out before, and I regret not doing so sooner. "BAIDAM Yushima Store" (Baidam) opened in 2018. Unlike the typical Indian-Nepalese fusion restaurants, this place focuses more on authentic Nepalese cuisine. However, the Nepalese chefs also showcase their creativity with dishes that transcend national boundaries. Items like Masala Cheese Omelette, Tandoori Chicken Donburi, Spicy Keema Gapaow, and Cilantro Tuna Potato Mayo are examples of the unique offerings that set this restaurant apart. The casual and unconventional atmosphere also makes it a great spot for casual dining and drinks. The Mutton Choela, a Nepalese spiced meat marinade, is flavorful with a hint of spice and generous portions of meat. The Jai Khatte, a Nepalese liquor made with roasted rice in buffalo butter, is a must-try for its warm and comforting qualities. For the main course, the Mutton Dal Bhat, a spiced curry style dish, is a delightful surprise. The rice can be chosen between white or mixed grain, with the lentils infused with a fragrant blend of spices. The mutton curry is rich and indulgent, with boneless meat for easy eating. The side dishes like Sag Bhuteko, Murkua Achar, and Gundruk Sadeko are also delicious and complement the meal perfectly. The meal can be customized with additional rice servings. The Nepalese Coffee, made from rare coffee beans grown in the Himalayas, is a great way to end the meal with its smooth and mild bitterness. The staff, led by the friendly and fluent Japanese-speaking KC, ensures a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience for both newcomers to Nepalese cuisine and seasoned enthusiasts. It's amazing how many great restaurants are popping up in Tokyo, and it's both exciting and overwhelming.

Today's lunch was at Ueno Yushima, at Byadum where I had Dal Bhat. The curry of the day was goat meat, which I chose. I was served salad and a lunch beer to quench my thirst. After a while, the luxurious Dal Bhat arrived, with spicy chutney, purple cabbage, saag, muruko achar, gundruk, fresh vegetables, veg curry (eggplant, yam, eringi), goat curry, dal, and basmati rice topped with green chili. I removed the curry and poured the dal over the rice. The gentle saltiness and rich flavor were delicious. The goat curry had a lingering taste but was tenderly cooked. The variety of textures in the veg curry was enjoyable, all without any spiciness, just savory flavors. I ate heartily, going back for more dal and bhat. Using rice control, I managed to finish everything. Once again, I left completely satisfied. #Byadum #DalBhat #Hand-eating is at your own risk #Night sets are a good deal #Completely satisfied with a full belly.

Visited alone on a Thursday night. There were four people in a group having a casual dinner and two people dining leisurely, but there was plenty of space available. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment I entered, and kindly explained the ingredients when I asked about them after the meal. As a beginner in spices and first-time trying Nepalese cuisine, I had a great time! I chose the Special Dal Bhat. Here are my impressions of the dishes that left an impression: - Dal: A curry made with bean broth, with a salty taste and a hint of bean flavor. I was told they use black beans and buffalo butter with herbs. - Seasonal Vegetable Curry: Delicious with eggplant, pumpkin, and potatoes. - Tomato Achar: Today it had dried fish in it, and they change the ingredients depending on the day. - Radish Achar: It had a wasabi-like aroma, but I was surprised to find out that it doesn't actually contain wasabi. The radish ferments to create that taste. It was much firmer than pickled radish. - Basmati Rice: I was nervous as I had never tried it before, but it was easy to eat with a sweet taste and no strong flavor. - Chiya: It had an authentic spice flavor. Adding sugar made it smoother. The menu changes regularly, even within a month, so I would love to visit again.

The other day, I happened to pass by a Nepalese restaurant called "Baidam" that had caught my eye. Unlike the familiar Indian and Nepalese restaurants found in town, this is an authentic Nepalese restaurant run by Nepalese people. Nepalese cuisine is a fusion of Indian, Chinese, and Tibetan cuisines, creating a unique food culture. It is known for not being too spicy, having lots of vegetables, and being suitable for Japanese palates. When I sat down, a Nepalese waiter who spoke fluent Japanese showed me a photo on an iPad of the "Rakshabandan Special for 1,500 yen" and recommended it. It was like a South Indian meal set (meals). Not quite understanding, I decided to go with that. It consisted of a trio of dishes - 9 kinds of lentil curry, mutton curry, and vegetable curry. I chose basmati rice to go with it. The 9 kinds of lentil curry had a gentle flavor, which tasted delicious when poured over the basmati rice. The mutton curry was rich and flavorful, with chunks of mutton and a slightly spicy kick. The vegetable curry also had a gentle flavor, with lots of vegetables and Nepalese crackers. It was different from Indian papad. To finish, I had a lassi to cleanse my palate. It was a yogurt-like lassi with a hint of sweetness and some kind of beans in it. It was refreshing. The waiter brought me a chai-like drink as a service because there were few customers that day. It was a unique milk tea with a special tea leaf flavor. The waiter, who I believe was Nepalese, was very kind and even asked if I lived nearby. He explained the daily lunch specials, like "Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon" and "Mutton Biryani." It was interesting! As I left, he said "Namaste" and saw me off outside. It was a wonderful customer service experience!

I had been to this restaurant for dinner before, but I wanted to try their lunch as well. Today's daily special was Amako Curry, which means "mom's curry". The main curry had chicken and eggplant, served with dal and basmati rice. The chicken and eggplant were delicious as expected, but the dal was surprisingly tasty! I ended up getting seconds without even realizing it.

Visited for the first time with a friend. The restaurant always had a nice smell whenever we passed by, so we decided to give it a try. In addition to Nepalese cuisine, they also offer some original dishes. The overall taste is spicy yet gentle, and very delicious. We had avocado and tandoori chicken salad, panipuri, momo, mutton choela, chicken biryani. Everything was cooked with great care and we were satisfied. They also have Nepalese alcohol. The service was very pleasant, with polite and thoughtful staff. We felt like visiting again. And the prices are very reasonable.

Holiday lunch. I went to try the Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon for 990 yen, which I had been curious about for a while. There were no other customers, so I was seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. I chose the "Basmati rice" which I had no idea about, and opted for the free large serving. First, I had a salad. The Oyakodon was served in about 7 minutes. Due to the lighting, it looked like Oyakodon, but the curry flavor was strong, making it more like a curry bowl. It had an Indian-style curry with a spicy taste, and the chicken was cut Tandoori style. The taste was not bad. When I added the spicy condiment from the small pot on the table, it became even better with a spicy kick. Is Basmati rice the same as the rice used in Biryani?? I figured out what the Oyakodon was like. The staff? or the owner? was very polite. Next time, I'll try something like a regular mixed plate.

I visited the restaurant recommended by someone I follow. [Location] The restaurant is located about 2 minutes from Yushima Station exit 5, on the basement floor. [Visit Date] I visited around 11:30 am on a holiday and it was not crowded. [Atmosphere] The restaurant is underground with subdued lighting, creating a calm atmosphere. There are counter seats and table seats, and the space is relatively spacious. [Food] I ordered the Special Dal Bhat (curry with mutton) and chose Nepalese coffee as a soft drink. The dishes were not flashy but each one was carefully made and delicious. [Service] The staff serving us had a bit of trouble with Japanese, but it was not a problem. The service was polite and likable. [Overall] The food was delicious and suited to the Japanese palate, and the service was polite. You can enjoy delicious Nepalese cuisine in a calm atmosphere.

<Visited in early April 2023> The Nepalese restaurant stood out as one of the few with female cooks, and the beautifully presented photos caught my attention. I decided to visit for the first time to also take advantage of a limited-time point offer from another gourmet website. I walked from exit 5 of Yushima Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, turned left, and found the restaurant located underground on the corner after FamilyMart. The service was polite, with a friendly Nepalese male waiter and a team of one female cook and one male cook in the kitchen. Bollywood music was playing in the background as a Japanese family was already dining, and two groups arrived after me. I ordered the Special Dal Bhat (rice and lentil soup with up to two refills for 1,290 yen tax included), choosing mutton curry (chicken and pork were also options) and mixed grain rice (basmati rice was also available for an additional charge). I also ordered a Chia (milk tea) for 250 yen as part of the lunch set. After about 10 minutes, the food arrived on a wooden circular plate similar to what is used in Sri Lankan restaurants in Minami-Rinkan and Kanagawa. The curry was served in a brass Katari (bowl) surrounded by various side dishes, with papadum and green peppers on top of the mixed grain rice. The presentation was reminiscent of a festival display. The budget version of Dal Bhat featured a spiced curry similar to the one at the Nepalese underground store in Otsuka. Eating the curry with cucumber and carrot slices dipped in Golbheda Achar (tomato dip sauce) made it easier to enjoy. The lentil soup had a gentle flavor and was perfect when poured over the rice and mixed with Golbheda Achar, sag (sauteed greens), purple cabbage, a moderate amount of Gundruk (fermented vegetables), and crunchy Murako Achar (radish pickles). Adding the mildly spicy vegetable curry with Chinese cabbage, greens, and carrots made the meal even more enjoyable, prompting me to ask for a refill of lentil soup and mixed grain rice. The boneless mutton curry was also pleasantly spicy, and dividing it between the rice and lentils was satisfying. However, compared to Dal Bhat at Nepalese restaurants in Shin-Okubo and Kamata, the portion of refills was slightly lacking. I decided to get an additional serving of lentil soup and the rare Basmati rice for a lighter texture. I finished the meal with a mini lassi served in the Katari and enjoyed a cup of Chia (milk tea) with just one stick of sugar for a perfect balance of sweetness. A small chocolate and a modestly sweet Thaun Papdi (complimentary dessert) added to the satisfaction of the lunch. If I have the chance to visit again, I would like to try a different dish. Postscript: Due to excess calories, I walked for about an hour and a half to Shimbashi via Sotobori Street after leaving the restaurant before taking the train.

I had work in Ueno, so on my way back, I decided to stop by a Nepalese restaurant in Yushima that I had been curious about. The Nepalese man on the floor was very friendly and talked to me about various things. Although his pronunciation wasn't native, he spoke very fluently! Around 5:30 pm, a friend of his came in and sat at the counter (there were other customers as well). The prices were reasonable, and they offered Dal Bhat as well as other Nepalese dishes like Chow Mein and Momos. They also had unique original menu items, making it hard to decide. I ended up ordering the homemade Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon (990 yen) with a side of dragon fruit. You could choose between mixed grain rice or Nepalese rice, and I chose the Nepalese rice. The dish was served in less than 10 minutes, and it came with a spicy seasoning that was a mix of red and blue chili peppers, lemon juice, Sichuan pepper, and vinegar. It was the restaurant's original creation. The Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon was very saucy, with chunks of Tandoori Chicken on top. It wasn't exactly a traditional oyakodon, nor was it a curry. It was more like a chicken and rice dish with Tandoori Chicken on top. I couldn't quite imagine it until I tried it. I added the spicy seasoning midway through the meal, which added a nice kick. The Nepalese master, who spoke fluent Japanese, explained that the dish was originally not on the menu but became popular as a daily special. I asked if similar dishes were found in Nepal, and he quickly replied, "No, it's original." I'm already thinking about what to order next time - maybe the Keema Gappao, Chow Mein & Momos, Dal Bhat, or the spicy blue chili curry. I found a restaurant that made me hesitate about what to order even before going there.

The menu offers a variety of authentic dishes like Dal Bhat, which got me excited! I chose the Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon, while my sister went for the Gappao. The salad arrived shortly after ordering, followed by our main dishes in about 5 minutes. The Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon was a unique dish that I had never seen before. The spiced chicken and egg were appetizing, and the broth was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating. Adding some extra spice from the table made it even more irresistible! The Spicy Keema Gappao that my sister had was truly outstanding. I took a bite and it was amazing. With the added spice, I couldn't stop eating it! - Skewered lamb (790 yen) - Chicken thigh (690 yen) - Vegetable curry (890 yen) - Ginger highball (490 yen) - Singha beer (650 yen) - Jaikatte (790 yen) Visit time: 3.38 pm on a weekday Upon visiting, there was one group of two customers and no customers afterwards. Two colleagues from work used this place for a second round of drinks. Feeling pressured by the aroma of lamb, we wandered around the area and decided to continue with the ethnic theme by searching nearby and ending up here. The staff in the hall were very polite. We entered quite drunk, but ended up staying until closing time at 11 pm. Pros: - The ginger highball was refreshing and stimulating, with a slightly sweet syrup and shredded ginger. - Jaikatte, a Nepalese hot sake, had a rice layer on the surface and a high alcohol content. It was a strong finish to the night. - Skewered lamb (dried meat) is always a reliable choice and deliciously rich. Cons: - The vegetable curry we ordered to finish off the meal had a high salt content, which may have been due to our intoxicated taste buds. Overall, we enjoyed our late night visit and look forward to trying their lunch dal bhat in the future. Thank you for the meal.

Green chili and coconut curry for 990 yen. Today, I had lunch in Yushima. I noticed a Nepalese cuisine flag in front of a restaurant where I had eaten before. Hmm, did the restaurant change? The atmosphere is definitely different from my previous visit, so I decided to give it a try. Entered at 12:43 pm, with 6 customers already seated and 1 customer coming in after me. I chose white rice over mixed grain rice. Soon, a salad with sesame dressing arrived, with tandoori chicken on top. While enjoying the salad, the main dish was served in about 12 minutes. The coconut curry was filled with chicken, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, mushrooms, and various spices. At first, the curry had a sweetness from the coconut, but then the spiciness of green chili kicked in. I have a tolerance for spicy food, so it was within my limits. Turmeric-colored lotus root was on the basmati rice, along with boiled egg, pickles, and persimmon for dessert. The spices were strong, making me break a slight sweat by the end of the meal. I paid with PayPay. It was delicious! Enjoyed my lunch on October 21, 2022. Rated 3.38.

【Delicious Nepal Trip】This restaurant located underground. When I entered, I was greeted by a smiling staff member who kindly showed me to my table. They were attentive, offering me water and taking care of everything. I immediately had a positive impression. I ordered the Chicken Biryani (990 yen) and started with the salad that came with the set. The homemade dressing was delicious, and the warm chicken on top paired well with the cold vegetables, creating a delightful contrast. The main Biryani dish was full of spices and had an authentic taste. Adding the spicy condiment from the table gave it a whole new flavor. Overall, the staff was friendly, the food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. It was a great restaurant experience!

Visited on Sunday at 1pm. There were 2 groups of customers before me, so it was easy to get a table. The staff greeted me warmly. I ordered the recommended Dal Bhat (Chicken). You can choose from a variety of grains for the rice. It arrived in about 10 minutes. It consisted of fragrant Basmati and white rice, chicken curry, lentils, and vegetable curry all mixed together. The side dish of stir-fried Chinese cabbage was particularly delicious. I think this was the best Dal Bhat I've ever had, with just the right amount of salt and a gentle flavor. I will definitely go back again.

I'll say it upfront. This restaurant is amazing. It's a fantastic place that I highly recommend to both curry enthusiasts and those who are not. I recently came across a restaurant that far exceeded my expectations. Especially for evening drinks, it is definitely recommended. The meticulously crafted Nepalese cuisine, tailored to suit the Japanese palate, is top-notch, and you can also experience rare Nepalese culture, which will appeal to enthusiasts. Namaste. I am the self-proclaimed Curry King, completely overwhelmed with excitement. Since there is not much information available about this restaurant, I want to make sure to convey what kind of place it is, so this might be a bit long. I recommend taking about a week to read it. The restaurant, "Ethnic Kitchen & Bar By Dikshya," is located in Yushima, within walking distance from Ueno and Okachimachi. The owner is from Pokhara, Nepal, and the restaurant offers authentic Nepalese cuisine. The owner graduated from a Japanese language school, and having married a Japanese lady, he is fluent in Japanese. He has even mastered the Japanese hospitality. His level of hospitality surpasses even someone like me, who is only interested in the erotic. To be honest, it is quite rare to find such level of hospitality even in Japan, the birthplace of Christel. The service is not the only impressive thing, I was completely blown away by the food as well. Here are some of the dishes I tried: - Tuna and Cabbage with Mayonnaise Curry: A dish where cabbage is stir-fried with sesame oil, black sesame, mayonnaise, and spices. The spices are freshly ground at the restaurant, giving a fresh flavor. The slightly intense flavor with soy sauce and sake is delightful. This dish reminded me of a dish my mother used to make, but this one is even better with the addition of spices. The cabbage is perfectly tender, and the combination of mayonnaise and tuna with spices is just amazing. - High Momo: Authentic Nepalese momo served in a set with a highball drink for 690 yen. The hot momo is made with handmade skin that is chewy and flavorful. The spicy flavor from the Golbheda Achar complements the momo well, and dipping it in the homemade spicy sauce enhances the flavor even more. - Homemade Ginger Highball: A refreshing highball drink with a balanced sweetness and ginger flavor. The addition of lemon and spices like cloves and cardamom in the glass adds a unique touch to the drink. - Jaikatte: A traditional Nepalese liquor made with hot Nepalese shochu and roasted basmati rice. The ghee flavor and the spices floating in the drink make it a unique and flavorful choice. This drink is quite strong, so be careful not to drink too much. - Homemade Tandoori Chicken Oyakodon: Tandoori chicken served on top of rice, with the marinade flavoring the entire dish. The basmati rice absorbs the flavors beautifully, creating a spicy yet elegant dish. I requested less rice and opted for basmati rice (you can also choose mixed grain rice). The marinade of the tandoori chicken permeates the dish, making it a delightful and sophisticated meal.

I still think that Dal Bhat is delicious and comforting. I visited this restaurant with no high expectations, but the taste and presentation of the food really impressed me. The owner, Apil, and the chef, Lama, are both from Pokhara, Nepal. They were very welcoming and made me feel at home, even though it was my first visit. The Nepali alcohol they had was unique, and the atmosphere of the restaurant felt like visiting a relative's house. The vegetable curry was outstanding, and I couldn't resist getting a second serving. The variety of pickles (Achaar) was delightful, and the spiciness was just right. The rice with peppers on top was a nice touch, and the portion size was perfect. I missed trying the extra spicy sauce they provided, but Apil kindly brought me a sample to taste. It was delicious! The hot chai at the end was soothing and felt like a taste of home. The service was exceptional, and I left feeling like I wanted to stay longer. Overall, a wonderful dining experience!

Located just a 1-minute walk from Yushima Station, the hidden curry restaurant "BAIDAM" on the basement 1st floor of a building is known for its colorful curry dishes. The dishes are served with Nepalese side dishes and spices on a single plate. I ordered the "Vegetable Curry (¥890)" which came with a salad and fruits as a set for lunch. The cute presentation made my heart dance with joy. Despite its appearance, the taste is authentic. The rich curry with strong spices leaves a savory onion flavor in the aftertaste. The side dishes served alongside are a perfect accent. It's delicious until the last bite. With a very affordable price and authentic taste, this newly opened restaurant is likely to become popular soon.

The restaurant is located near the exit of Subway Yushima Station, at the Yushima Nakazaka Shita intersection. The menu offers a variety of options such as curry, gapao, biryani, and dal bhat, making it hard to choose. I decided to order the chicken biryani with mixed rice for 990 yen after carefully looking at the menu inside the half-basement shop. The atmosphere inside is calm with dim lighting, and there are partitions on the tables for infection prevention. A salad was served first, followed by the main dish cooked with long-grain rice (basmati), two large pieces of chicken, boiled egg, achar, raita (yogurt), and dessert (kiwi fruit). The dish was surprisingly flavorful with a good amount of spices. Mixing the raita and achar enhanced the taste. The portion size was just right for me, but it might seem small for others. I will come back to try other menu items like gapao rice, parent-child bowl with tandoori chicken, and dal bhat.
