Taking a walk to Nishiarai Daishi for rehabilitation. Feeling tired, so taking a break at Kadoya. Is it simply called "Kadoya" because it's located on the corner? The historic exterior is a delight for enthusiasts. Established in 1922, it's not just retro but from the Taisho era. A century-old long-established shop. The menu is very simple and reasonable! Whether it's ramen or yakisoba, the composition is kept to a minimum. It's all about cutting out the unnecessary to keep the prices low. However, this simplicity is its greatest charm. In a world where everything is interconnected, this place serves as a healing sanctuary from the deteriorating environment. The soothing soup tells the whole story. Curry ramen is recommended for the upcoming season. Will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal~

This restaurant is famous for its yakisoba, but I think it is overrated on TV and the yakisoba is actually not very good. What you should eat at this place is the ramen. It has a refreshing taste with just the right amount of seasoning. It only costs 500 yen for a bowl. However, it was too hot to just have ramen in the middle of summer, so I also ordered shaved ice. I got the Uji milk flavor for 500 yen as well, and it really helped me cool down. Today is the Bon dance festival, which is held once every four years. There are food stalls and it's much livelier than usual at Nishiarai Daishi. Let's go pay our respects and then head home!

Nostalgic Atmosphere Inside the Shop ~ Has time stopped here? A charming find of a shop with a lot of Showa-era vibes! Or maybe even further back in time? This nostalgic shop is located in Nishiarai, Adachi-ku, right in front of Nishiarai Daishi Temple. Isn't the atmosphere just amazing? In the scorching heat, with nobody inside, I ordered a "large serving of yakisoba," and then I heard a beep sound... Wait, are they turning on the air conditioning now? Haha, did they add it as an extra? The interior of the shop, mainly serving shaved ice desserts, is filled with the pleasant sound of wind chimes. And guess what? Along with the water, a cash box appeared for payment. Do I put the money in here? According to the sign inside the shop, it seems like a trade-off for the products. Quite an unusual sight. From the back of the shop, you can hear the sound of yakisoba being cooked. But it's a somewhat weak sound... Haha, shouldn't they be cooking it on high heat! While waiting for a few minutes, the "large serving of yakisoba" for 500 yen arrived. The taste is... Hmm, does time really stand still here? A taste that is quite unremarkable and lacking in flavor. Oh right, they mentioned to pour the sauce on top. Gradually adding the sauce, it transformed into a delicious dish. By the end, generously pouring the sauce made it really tasty. Is this how yakisoba used to taste in the past? Ultimately, I stumbled upon an addictive and delicious yakisoba at this charmingly nostalgic shop. Next time, maybe I'll try the ramen? This nostalgic shop not only has a nostalgic vibe but also serves nostalgically delicious food.

A cafeteria near Nishiarai Daishi. I found this place by searching on Tabelog when I was nearby. When I followed the map to get there, the exterior was so run-down that I hesitated to go in for a moment! But when I opened the door, it was bustling with customers. Phew. This place has a retro feel, like a "Showa Retro Museum." The old cash register probably hasn't been used in ages. These kinds of places are actually quite precious. I had the ramen for ¥500 and the cream anmitsu for ¥500. The interesting thing was the payment system - you leave the cash on a tray on the table and exchange it for your food. I've never seen that before. The ramen was a classic light soup noodles. The soup was light yet deep and delicious. The cream anmitsu was tasty, especially the red bean paste. They were selling dorayaki at the storefront, and if the red bean paste in those is anything like this, it must be delicious! And the best part is the incredible value for money! It's rare to find a place where you can have ramen for just one coin these days!! It was a delicious and interesting place to visit.

I visited Nishiarai Daishi for the first time. I stopped by a shop called "Kamishiro Kadoya," which I had been curious about for a long time. It was established in the Taisho era and opened a sweet shop in the Showa period. The shop's exterior has a withered feel that stands out. It is a valuable shop that maintains its Showa retro appearance and atmosphere. I ordered yakisoba (large) for ¥500, ramen for ¥500, and cream anmitsu for ¥500. I shared them with my companion. The yakisoba had only cabbage as an ingredient. It was similar to the yakisoba I had at an old yakisoba specialty shop in Utsunomiya the other day. The taste was light, and I adjusted it by adding sauce from the table. I added quite a bit of sauce to make it just right. Only seaweed. No meat, red pickled ginger, or tempura flakes in this simple yakisoba. The yakisoba at Naniwaya is also adjusted with table sauce, but it is ten times more delicious. I ordered the large serving, but it was a normal portion. Honestly, it was a mediocre yakisoba. Next, the ramen. This was also light in flavor. It had thin chashu, sweet menma, green onions, and only one naruto. The noodles were a bit stretchy, and the soup lacked richness and umami. The ramen was also disappointing. The only thing that tasted good was the chunky red bean paste in the cream anmitsu. However, the experience of eating in this movie set-like dining room from the Showa era, and considering this price as an entrance fee, I was satisfied. If I visit Nishiarai Daishi again, I will definitely stop by this place. I hope they continue to work hard and keep the shop going for a long time.

Amami Kadoya Daishimae (Tokyo) Ramen 500 yen Delicious!! Don't underestimate the umami of the light and thin curly noodles with the flavorful soy sauce infused with kelp. The taste and atmosphere are top-notch, like a time slip. Located at Nishiarai 1-7-12, Adachi-ku, open from 11:00 to 17:00, closed irregularly. #DaishimaeRamen #RamenRamen111

When it comes to Nishiarai Daishi, Kamekadoya is a must-visit shop. I decided to get a takeout of Imagawayaki on this day. The red bean paste made from Hokkaido beans was not too sweet and perfect for eating on the go. The price of 120 yen per piece was also a pleasant surprise. I will definitely visit again when I go to Nishiarai Daishi.

I enjoyed walking and eating my way through the town near Nishiarai Daishi. The storefronts here are of such high quality that they could be mistaken for a movie set. What's even more impressive is that these shops are still in operation. Unfortunately, I was already quite full, so I bought a taiyaki (fish-shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste) to eat as I continued exploring. It was delicious, with a refined red bean paste filling.

In Nishiarai, there is a sweet shop called Amamikadoya. The exterior has an atmosphere that feels like it might be an important historical cultural property. It reminds me of something you would see in a museum from the Showa era. The interior of the shop probably hasn't changed much since the Showa era, with concrete floors, vintage tables and chairs. They sell items like Imagawayaki, Anmitsu, ramen, and udon. It's a lovely shop where grandma is working hard. I imagine it would be amazing to eat snacks in this nostalgic space. The slightly light yakisoba with flavorful seaweed was a heartfelt dish that allowed me to feel the history. Also, the shop was not actually located in a corner.

Went to Nishiarai Daishi for the first time with my family to ward off bad luck during our unlucky year. On the way there, we stopped to grab a bite to eat. The simple ramen was only 500 yen and quite cheap. The mochi in the Chikara Ramen had a delicious aroma. Both the ramen and the large manju we bought outside tasted even better on the cold day.

After visiting for protection from bad luck, I purchased Imagawa-yaki here on my way back. The shop has a retro atmosphere with a mix of different businesses at the storefront. There were about 10 people lined up for Imagawa-yaki at 3:30 pm. I was asked how many I wanted while waiting in line. I bought one just before they sold out. It's nice to have something hot on a cold day. When you take a bite, the hot bean paste comes out. The sweet bean paste has a nice level of sweetness. One thing that bothered me was that the inside of the Imagawa-yaki was slightly undercooked... Hmm, that was a bit disappointing. The outside of the Imagawa-yaki wasn't as crispy with a moist inside as I had hoped. Thank you for the meal.

At the corner of the approach to Nishiarai Daishi, most of the shops in the area have been rebuilt and renovated, but Kadoya remains unchanged, retaining a Showa-era atmosphere. Inside the shop, you can enjoy light meals such as ramen, udon, and yakisoba. They also sell "Imagawayaki", which I couldn't resist buying. It costs 120 yen per piece and is filled with plenty of red bean paste made from beans from Hokkaido. I bought some coffee from the Seven-Eleven across the street and enjoyed it on the veranda in front of the convenience store.

The atmosphere is nostalgic and seems to appeal to those who like it. It exudes a feeling reminiscent of the old-fashioned local areas in present-day Tohoku region, or the character Tora-san from "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" series. However, the review on the food was disappointing. I tried the yakisoba because it was said to be traditional, but I couldn't find anything special about it. The taste is said to be bland by the restaurant staff. The table sauce is too sweet and watery. The noodles lack firmness and don't mix well. The ramen was also described as traditional, but I couldn't find anything exceptional about it. The chashu pork was very salty and the menma bamboo shoots were very sweet. In conclusion, it may be what people ate during the wartime or pre-war era. If you are looking for a simple, normal yakisoba or ramen like the ones you eat at home, this place may not be the right choice. However, since Nishi-Arai Daishi Temple is nearby, it might be interesting to visit both places together.

On April 22, 2022, after enjoying a pasta lunch, I bought one imagawayaki from the long-established Kadoya. I walked back to the bus stop while eating it. When I took a photo in front of the store, I vaguely noticed that it was warm and soft. There weren't many visitors at the temple, so I can understand if they were pre-made and warm, but the soft dough was disappointing. However, the red bean paste, which was plump and cooked with a rich flavor and a subtle sweetness, was delicious. Nishiarai is where my mother was born and raised. Nishiarai Daishi is where I celebrated my third birthday. Whenever we needed to get rid of bad luck, we always went to Nishiarai Daishi. It's a nostalgic place that took care of three generations - my late grandparents, my mother, and me. I hope Kadoya's taste remains unchanged.

At the entrance of Nishiarai Daishi, there is a sweet snack shop called "Kadoya". The sign with the name of the shop written boldly can be overwhelming. They don't serve alcohol, so I don't visit every time, but I feel like stopping by occasionally when I come to Nishiarai Daishi. While yakisoba is a popular choice, the curry ramen (500 yen) is actually delicious. It only has pork belly and green onions as toppings. The noodles are just ordinary Chinese noodles, but the thick curry soup is surprisingly spicy and has a addictive taste. It's similar to curry nanban at a soba restaurant. It's a menu that makes you want to have a beer somewhere.

No.2996 The nearest station to Daishi Station on the Tobu Daishi Line. Visited as part of a pilgrimage to Nishiarai Daishi. This shop is not just a specialty shop for imagawayaki, but also serves other food items for dining in. The atmosphere of the shop is so nice and inviting! Imagawayaki can be purchased for takeout directly from the shop along the street. Imagawayaki with sweet red bean paste filling, two pieces. Each piece costs 120 yen. The sweetness is just right, the dough is fluffy and soft, and the red bean paste inside is smooth and warm. It was steaming hot! Buying and eating this was definitely a hit.

I have been eating here for over 30 years, but every time I go, the dorayaki is undercooked. Well, I've never gotten sick from it, so I guess it's okay. Anyway, after paying respects to Kobo Daishi, stop by here.

I was in a good mood at the Ise Sue Hotel and decided to visit another unique restaurant to continue the good vibes. I ended up at a sweet shop where they don't serve alcohol. The atmosphere reminded me of a Showa-era diner, and I was immediately charmed. I was recommended the "tokoroten" with vinegar soy sauce, a specialty here. The rule was to order it with a ratio of 9:1 vinegar soy sauce to black honey, and it was delicious. The dish was not common in Kansai, so I asked for guidance on how to eat it, and was told to mix in some mustard. It was a refreshing and enjoyable break from drinking, experiencing the sweet flavors of the Showa era.

There are two treasure-class restaurants in front of Nishiarai Daishi, one is the sake shop and izakaya "Ise Sueten" (visited) and the other is the sweets shop "Kadoya". The latter is famous as the shop where Hatsue (Kirin Kiki) and Aki (Miyu Sasaki) stopped by in the movie "Shoplifters". The location is just south of Nishiarai Daishi. The exterior is so cool that you might faint, but when you enter, a cheerful female staff member greets you and says, "Please sit wherever you like." We sat at a two-person table by the wall. The interior of the shop is also cool. The tables and chairs have a design that looks like it belongs in a Showa-era apartment complex. Now, what to order. In addition to sweets, they also have ramen and yakisoba. Since we had just visited a ramen shop and were a little sweaty from walking, we decided to have some tokoroten with vinegar soy sauce. The price is 250 yen, and I felt a bit guilty about the low customer spending. The payment is made in advance when the dish is served on a tray. When was the last time I had tokoroten? It was cool, smooth, and refreshing with the vinegar soy sauce, and I added some Western mustard for a little kick. It's been a while since I had tokoroten, and it was quite good. I wanted to order more and relax, but I have another appointment, so I have to leave. I hope this place continues to be a resting place for visitors to Nishiarai Daishi for a long time to come.
