Located just off the famous Kaminarimon Street in Asakusa, this long-established sushi restaurant is a hidden gem. While their lunch menu offers fantastic sushi options, it's their dinner service that truly shines. Dinner is reservation-only (5000 yen per person set course), but it's well worth it. When my partner and I visited, we were first served a generous portion of sashimi, followed by grilled and simmered fish, ankimo, fresh oysters, shirako, and other daily specials before moving on to the sushi. The sushi, including the rich tuna and succulent ark shell, was exceptional. Each dish was not only delicious but also offered great value for the price. In my opinion, this restaurant stands out as the best sushi spot in terms of quality and value for this price range. I look forward to many more visits in the future.

Order: Sushi set for 1700 yen Evaluation of dishes and drinks: Salad: A mix of leafy greens, cabbage, and mizuna. The dressing, similar to store-bought sesame dressing, was delicious. Mozuku seaweed: Thin mozuku seaweed with a light seasoning. It had a smooth texture with a nice chewiness, very tasty. Sushi: All the toppings were fresh and delicious. They were served with a brushed soy glaze. The toppings included squid, yellowtail, tuna, scallop, cured mackerel, egg, ikura gunkan, fatty tuna, seared shrimp, tuna roll, and medium fatty tuna. The tuna, in particular, was exceptional with no sinew, excellent fat content, and truly delightful. The rice was well-prepared, blending seamlessly with the toppings. The slightly smaller rice portions suited my taste. Miso soup: A red miso soup with a strong shrimp stock. Also very tasty. Evaluation of the restaurant and service: The restaurant has a traditional feel, like a slightly upscale sushi place in town. The cleanliness could use some improvement as it seemed a bit lacking. The service was decent, with friendly conversations with regular customers. I appreciated that they noticed I am left-handed and adjusted the sushi placement accordingly. The service can be slow due to being short-staffed, so be mindful if you are short on time. Likelihood of revisiting: The affordable price, quality toppings, and overall experience make me want to come back again.

First time at Torikoshi Sushi. Ordered the Jyo Sushi set (1700 yen). Started with a salad and miso soup with mozuku seaweed. The miso soup was delicious. The nigiri sushi began. Squid, flounder. The vinegared rice was a bit sweet but the nigiri was beautifully made and served quickly. The tuna was served with a brush of sauce. The tuna had a rich flavor. It might have been better with soy sauce. The sardine was tasty. The scallop had a generous amount of sauce. The firefly squid battleship was delicious. The tamagoyaki was sweet and a good snack. The mackerel was almost raw and tasty. The ootoro had plenty of fat. The kohada was tender. The tekka maki was a light version with tuna. The volume was plentiful for 1700 yen, it's unbelievable how good the quality and quantity of the sushi is for the price. They don't accept cards though.

I ordered a chirashi because the sushi I had last time was not good. They only had a special chirashi for 2,300 yen including tax. It takes a long time for the food to come out, but I understand since they seem to be short-staffed. When the sushi arrived, the server had wet hands and touched the bento box lid, which made it wet. The miso soup bowl was also wet. I didn't like that at all.

I went for lunch and luckily got a seat right away. The phone kept ringing with inquiries about availability, but the chef and the hostess were managing the place by themselves and had to turn people away. I ordered the 1600 yen seafood bowl, which was a great deal considering it had high-quality ingredients like sea urchin, salmon roe, and fatty tuna. Every piece of sushi was delicious, especially the sea urchin which I usually don't like that much. I would love to go back again.

It's been a while since I last visited due to the end of the bird sushi addiction, but I came back today. It seems like they have returned to normal business hours without any restrictions. The sushi parade today was absolutely amazing, and it only costs ¥1600 including tax! It's so delicious that I feel guilty for enjoying it so much. I can't thank the owner enough for running such a fantastic sushi restaurant. I hope this place remains a hidden gem, but it's a shame if people don't visit.

During the pandemic, many shops were closed and even when they were open, they were often empty. Finally, I was able to visit a restaurant, but it seems that sourcing ingredients has been difficult due to the pandemic. They only had a flyer menu. However, the luxurious chirashi sushi they offered was impressive. Still, I really wanted to have some nigiri sushi!

I have passed by this restaurant many times, but I finally went there for the first time. In the past, I saw a line at lunchtime and wondered what was popular there. Most likely, the popular item is the chirashi sushi. I ordered the sushi lunch set with nigiri sushi. Personally, I don't want to eat chirashi. Each piece of sushi was served with soy sauce. It was different from the typical Edomae style. The chef was friendly, but it was not the kind of "Edomae" restaurant I had imagined.

After 13:00, I had lunch alone. I always look forward to visiting the restaurants posted by everyone for Sunday lunch. This time, I found a post of a restaurant near my house that said "Why no line?" so I was curious and went there! When I entered, I was the only customer. I ordered the mixed sushi and soon a two-tiered box arrived. I agree, why no line! The ingredients were carefully prepared. It's only 1600 yen, which is cheap! The restaurant may seem a bit plain, but to all tourists out there! You won't be disappointed with this cheap and delicious mixed sushi. *There are many disappointing restaurants in tourist areas. And they're expensive... You won't regret it.

This is a sushi restaurant located in Asakusa with a rating of 3.28 on Tabelog. Specifically, it is located just a short walk from the intersection of Asakusa Street and Kaminarimon Street, towards the direction of the Thunder Gate. On the day of my visit, I tried their Chirashi sushi and was amazed by the luxurious presentation. I wanted to share my experience with everyone. I came across this restaurant while wandering around Asakusa during a work trip. The lunch menu offers Chirashi sushi with two options: Regular (1,200 yen) and Deluxe (1,600 yen). I opted for the Deluxe as I was quite hungry. The meal started with a salad and small dishes, followed by the main dish beautifully arranged in two tiers. The first tier included various sashimi such as tuna, amberjack, seared shrimp, golden eye snapper, ark shell, and salmon roe. The second tier had fresh whitebait, hairy crab, and salmon roe, offering a generous portion. The Chirashi sushi was surprising in its presentation, selection of ingredients, and value for money. I wish I could visit this wonderful restaurant more often.

When searching for delicious sushi, I came across Torikoshi Sushi in Asakusa. I often explore restaurants in Asakusa, but I had never heard of this place before. It seems to be a local favorite with great quality and value. I was surprised at how delicious the sushi was for the price. The restaurant is not too crowded, so it's a hidden gem. It's amazing that there's no line. Many customers were enjoying the luxurious chirashi sushi, but I recommend trying the nigiri sushi here. I definitely want to visit this place again.

May 2019, Lunch in Asakusa, Tokyo Thumbs up for the recently popular Asakusa area. I had a great value sushi lunch on the less crowded south side of Kaminarimon Street. Asakusa was super busy during the Golden Week holidays. All the popular lunch spots had long lines. Hmm, I didn't know Asakusa could get this crowded. That's when you should head to the hidden gem area. Head southwest of Kaminarimon, cross the street to "Kaminarimon Ichichome," and you'll find "Torikoshi Sushi" tucked behind the Chinese restaurant "Koken." For the holiday lunch, you can choose between the "Upper Sushi" or "Upper Chirashi" sets, both priced at ¥1600. This was my first meal out in the Reiwa era, so I allowed myself a little indulgence. I ordered the "Upper Sushi ¥1600" set. The quality of the sushi was quite good. First, I had appetizers, salad, and miso soup with clams to prepare my stomach. It was quite busy with many customers, so the service was a bit slow, but that's understandable. Patience is key here. The upper nigiri consisted of 11 pieces and an egg roll. The variety included skipjack tuna, scallops, squid, shrimp, egg roll, firefly squid, salmon roe, sea urchin, and two pieces of fatty tuna. It was a satisfying meal. The price of ¥1600 for lunch may be a bit high, and the portions were on the smaller side, but considering the quality of the firefly squid, salmon roe, sea urchin, and fatty tuna, it was definitely worth it. I think this place is more reasonable than the sushi restaurants on the main north side of Kaminarimon Street. I usually go for a cheap lunch, so I'll have to cut back on my drinking plans tonight.

【Asakusa】A happy lunch sushi at a sushi restaurant near Kaminarimon - Torikoshi Sushi About a third of January 2018 has already passed. It feels like New Year's was just yesterday, but time flies, doesn't it? Before we know it, 2018 will be over. But for now, let's focus on eating. I decided to do the Asakusa Shichifukujin pilgrimage, visiting 9 temples and shrines in Asakusa to collect stamps, but since it's quite a challenge to visit all 9 in one day, I split it into two days. I'll write about the pilgrimage in another article, but while I was in Asakusa during lunchtime, I decided to have sushi. In Asakusa (between Asakusa and Asakusabashi, there is an area called Torikoshi), I went to a place called "Torikoshi Sushi". The restaurant has a counter and two tables in a raised seating area. The chef and the hostess are at the counter, while the hostess is chatting happily with regular customers. The beer served is Asahi, and it was refreshing after a long walk. I ordered the lunch set sushi (1600 yen). I wasn't sure what exactly was included, so I was a bit nervous. The salad and appetizer were served first. The salad was refreshing with ponzu dressing. The appetizer consisted of mushrooms, clams, and lightly simmered Chinese cabbage. The broth was delicious, and I finished it all. Now, onto the sushi. First was sea bream. The rice was small and crumbled softly in the mouth. Next was squid, tender and fragrant with a hint of yuzu. Then came the lean tuna, followed by egg, lightly seared shrimp, scallop, and a hot clam miso soup. The sushi continued with salmon roe, mackerel, shrimp, and finally, the highlight - fatty tuna and medium fatty tuna. The fatty tuna was rich and delicious. The meal ended with a tekka maki roll. The lunch set included 10 pieces of sushi, a roll, salad, appetizer, and soup for 1600 yen, and I was very satisfied. The counter quickly filled up after opening, and the tables were fully booked. I found another great restaurant in Asakusa, and I look forward to visiting again in the evening. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I visited this restaurant for lunch on a weekday in January 2015. When I arrived at 11:30 am, the restaurant was not yet open, even though it was supposed to open at that time according to Tabelog. I was a bit confused as I had a flight to catch, but since I really wanted to have sushi for my last meal in Japan, I decided to come back in 30 minutes. The staff kindly offered to keep my suitcase and luggage for me. When I returned at 12 pm and sat at the counter, I ordered the "Jou nigiri lunch" (1600 yen including tax). First, a salad and miso soup were served. The sushi was prepared by the owner one by one across the counter. They were served in a good pace, and I believe there were around 11-12 varieties including tamago and the last roll. The ingredients were all fresh and delicious. For 1600 yen, which included uni and crab, I think it was quite a bargain. The owner, who was quiet while making sushi, later engaged in conversation with me, and the hostess was friendly, making it a pleasant dining experience. I think this is a great place to enjoy delicious sushi at a reasonable price in Asakusa.

Located one street before Kokusai Street, just off of Reimon Street. The last lunch I had was an omakase set for 3,000 yen, which included appetizers, sashimi, and grilled dishes. The sushi portions are on the smaller side, making it easy for even women to finish a serving. It's nice to have Kirin beer as an option in this area. Unfortunately, they only offer top-grade shochu. Also, I'm not a fan of the vinegar rice. I especially noticed it in the chirashi lunch I had that day. It seems like they use less sugar and salt. Overall, it's good value for the price.

I heard from someone that the price of the sushi lunch set has been raised to 1600 yen. Here is a review of the restaurant before the price increase: Located on the outskirts of Asakusa, near Tawaramachi, is a sushi restaurant. I visited on a Saturday afternoon. It seemed to be a popular spot as the counter quickly filled up with customers, and there were also group customers seated at the tables. The lunch set consisting of sushi and chirashi was 1200 yen. There were also other menu options available for 1000 yen. I decided to order the sushi at the counter this time. There was only one sushi chef, so I had to wait for the previous customer's chirashi to be prepared before my sushi was served. The chef made the sushi in front of me and served it immediately. I had a total of 12 pieces of sushi, excluding the egg. In addition, there were small side dishes, salad, and soup included, making the price per piece of sushi less than 100 yen. The taste was not cheap, and I could enjoy the delicious sushi with peace of mind. There were various toppings such as sea urchin, shrimp, engawa, and fresh whitebait, which I enjoyed. The chirashi seemed to have a generous amount of toppings, so I would like to try that next time.
