I came to Ueno on July 5, 2019. It was my check-up day, which happens once every three months. The test results were all normal, thanks to my daily health habits. However, they mentioned that I have lost a bit too much weight. After the hospital visit, I met up with my mom and we went to a sushi restaurant we had been wanting to try. When we looked at the menu, we noticed that the prices had gone up a bit. My mom ordered the assorted nigiri sushi, while I ordered the chirashi bowl. Both came with a small side dish (fish and daikon simmered dish), cold chawanmushi, miso soup with shrimp head, and coffee after the meal. The chirashi bowl had tuna, squid, sea bream, salmon roe, sweet shrimp, octopus, tamagoyaki, denbu, pickled radish, and simmered shiitake mushrooms on top of the rice. It was a classic and well-presented chirashi bowl. The fish was decent, and the tuna had a rich flavor as if it had been aged. The sushi rice had a subtle sweetness with a slightly strong acidity and saltiness. The balance was good due to the sweetness of the denbu and pickled radish. The chawanmushi had a strong eggy flavor like pudding, with a hint of plum adding a nice touch. The only issue was with my mom's assorted nigiri sushi. The price had increased by 1000 yen over the past few years, which was a bit surprising. However, the taste was excellent and the presentation was beautiful. But still, it made me think, is it worth paying 3000 yen for this? Even in Ginza, there is a trend towards getting good quality food at a reasonable price during lunchtime. The only thing that bothered me was the price, despite the good service, side dishes, miso soup, and quality of the sushi.
