Within walking distance of the neighborhood, we planned to have lunch at a new restaurant. On this day, my companion expressed a clear preference for "miso ramen," so I searched for options. I found this place in Shinjuku, with decent reviews from everyone. We walked there to check it out.
1. Exterior, atmosphere, interior: It's about a 7-minute walk from Shinjuku Station West Exit, located in a corner of an electronics retail street. The building is bigger than I expected, with a noticeable yellow and red façade. The interior is smaller than expected, with only counter seats. Due to the current situation, there are transparent vinyl curtains between the kitchen and seating area, and minimal items on the tables. The place is clean, and even a woman dining alone wouldn't feel out of place.
2. Food: There were several types of miso ramen to choose from. I decided on the "Rich Combination Miso" with my favorite "flavored egg" topping. I handed the food ticket to the staff, and they quickly stir-fried vegetables like bean sprouts and cabbage in a wok. The aroma of garlic and lard whetted my appetite. Soon, a hot bowl was served. The soup had a balanced flavor with the essence of miso, not too strong nor too weak. It's a safe and likable taste, which I personally enjoy. The thick curly noodles lifted the rich miso soup well and had a nice wheat aroma. They were chewy, providing a satisfying texture. The toppings included stir-fried vegetables, wood ear mushrooms, seaweed, seasoned bamboo shoots, green onions, and the flavored egg. A well-rounded selection of toppings that complemented the miso ramen well. It was a fulfilling meal.
3. Staff: There were two men in the kitchen dividing cooking and serving tasks. Their greetings, seating guidance, and overall service were good. They were friendly and energetic, and I didn't notice any issues.
4. Value for money: We enjoyed a well-balanced miso ramen near Shinjuku Station. The portion size was good, and the staff's service was pleasant. I believe it offers good value for money.
5. Other notes: My companion had the "White Miso Ramen," which had a gentle sweetness and a different flavor profile. Next time, I might try the spicy miso ramen.
