During my student days, I used to frequent Yasubei quite often. The taste of Yasubei, with its unique dipping sauce that is not just fish powder or sweet and sour, is unforgettable. Although there used to be many branches, it seems that they have decreased significantly. After getting my hair cut in Omotesando, I was wondering what to eat, and as I walked along Cat Street, I remembered there was a Yasubei in Shibuya. I was torn between getting the regular or spicy version, but I decided on the spicy one to beat the lingering humidity of late summer. It was the perfect choice, bringing back nostalgic flavors. Next time, I want to try the regular version with plenty of fish powder and onions, just like I used to enjoy in the past. That was my Saturday night.

I unexpectedly had some free time, so I decided to use it for an idle time. It was crowded during lunchtime, so it was hard to find a place to eat. The noodles from Yasubei that I had after a long time were much chewier than I remembered, not quite what I was expecting. Maybe it was because I got them served hot?

I found and visited "Tsukemen Yasubee" in Shibuya after a long time. Over 10 years ago, I used to wait in line for over 30 minutes at the Yasubee in Takadanobaba and no matter how many times I ate there, it was always delicious. Even when I visited the Ikebukuro branch, I was satisfied. However, the Shibuya branch I visited today...

A pioneer in the fish sauce tsukemen boom, this tsukemen restaurant continues to be immensely popular. The chewy noodles made from high-quality wheat flour are excellent. While their ramen is also delicious, I recommend trying the tsukemen for first-timers. The portion of noodles is generous, and you can also choose the level of spiciness, making it a good value for the price.

Ramen shop. The noodles are slightly thin and easy to eat. The soup is light but has a strong flavor. The spiciness is just right. Finely chopped onions are placed on top, adding a nice texture. The chashu is sliced into small pieces, making it easy to eat. The staff speaks in a unique way, which is entertaining, but it was a bit concerning that they had their mask completely pulled down.

On a regular night, I waited for about 15 minutes. I don't usually go to ramen shops, so I was hesitant to order warm noodles, but the staff asked me which made me happy. The soup was relatively light and easy to eat. The interior of the shop was clean and there were many foreign customers. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Yasubee @ Shibuya Tsukemen (extra large portion)
During my student days, I used to frequent the Takadanobaba branch of this restaurant, so after more than a decade, I felt like revisiting. The store has a narrow entrance but there is always a line. Surprisingly, about 80% of the customers were foreigners. It seems that without me realizing, this place has become a huge success with inbound tourists. So, to challenge my student self, I ordered the extra large portion, 440g. It has been over ten years, so this was also a test of my memory. Here are my thoughts:
The noodles had more chewiness and bite than I expected. I remember them being a bit more slurpable... As for the dipping sauce, it had a balance of sourness, spiciness, sweetness, and umami, but it was a bit watery and thin. It's not that it wasn't delicious, but it felt like the restaurant has found a new direction in this era of progress. Personally, I thought maybe I didn't need to open the lid of my memories, but in this day and age, getting an extra large 440g portion for the same price of 920 yen is definitely appreciated!

I visited this place along Shibuya Meiji Street, which has always been crowded with people, for the first time in about 10 years. The taste has remained the same since the beginning of the tsukemen boom, and it has a sense of stability. It's nice that you can add chopped onions yourself. After running at the Imperial Palace, I went for the 300g option, but towards the end, it was quite challenging. Thank you for the meal today.

I felt like having tsukemen, so I went to the reliable Yasube. It was after 3pm and there were 3 groups waiting ahead of me. I bought my meal ticket and they held onto it for me. Once seated, the tsukemen arrived promptly, which was great. I ordered the regular tsukemen with double garlic. The broth was neither good nor bad. I appreciated that they offered free spice, garlic, and onions. The meat was also delicious.

I felt like having tsukemen for lunch in Shibuya, so I decided to try a tsukemen restaurant near my office. The ticket machine was acting up and it took a while to purchase a ticket, but the turnover at the restaurant was fast so I was seated quickly after buying a ticket. I ordered a regular size tsukemen with chewy noodles, which were delicious. The dipping sauce was a bit spicy, so I added plenty of bonito flakes to it. The noodles were so good that I felt like the dipping sauce couldn't keep up with them.

I visited the restaurant in the early afternoon. Unlike the nearby oil soba shop which always has a line, this place seemed pretty easy to get into unless it's peak hours. The atmosphere inside was average. The ratio of men to women was about 7:3. I ordered the "dipping noodles tax included" for 920 yen. Since all four sizes were the same price, I chose the second size from the top (330g), which turned out to be too much for me. As for the taste, the soup had a slight spiciness, but it didn't bother me at all. The noodles were firm and satisfying to eat. Additionally, being able to add as much chopped onions as you like as a topping was a big plus for me. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. The larger size (440g) for the same price is a great deal and should be enough to satisfy most people's appetites.

¥1,020 for Miso Tsukemen (extra-large 440g)
Regular serving 220g, medium serving 330g are also the same price for extra-large servings
The same price for extra-large servings is really convenient! The noodles are firm and have a great throat feel. The texture is amazing! You can strongly feel their dedication to the noodles. The soup contains vegetables, menma, and minced meat, and it remains delicious until the last soup refill. Miso Tsukemen has a spicy aftertaste, so be careful if you don't like spicy food. Please visit this restaurant at least once.

I arrived at the restaurant around 12 pm on Saturday. There were about 8 people waiting in line inside. It was my first time, but there was a detailed explanation at the ticket machine, so I was able to order with my preferred free toppings. I ordered the large serving (440g), double spiciness, double garlic, and requested it to be served hot when ordering. Since you hand your ticket to the staff while waiting in line, I received my bowl shortly after being seated. I took a bite of the noodles first. They were very chewy. When dipped in the soup, the spiciness was just right. Adding the free bonito flakes to the soup enhanced the flavor. As I continued eating, adding onions and garlic, the 440g of noodles disappeared in no time. Adding onions made it sweet, which was impressive. Lastly, I enjoyed the soup with added noodles, finishing the meal. The solid base allows for various flavor changes to be enjoyed. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal.

I used to come here often about 10 years ago, but I was able to come back after a long time. I thought I arrived just before opening, but they were already open. I waited a little and got in. The yasubee tsukemen allows you to add onions and fish powder as you like, which is nice. I always end up adding too much though... (^^;

The snow forecast for 2/10 in 2023 was completely off, and it ended up snowing heavily as expected. It's so cold, perfect weather for tsukemen (usually I always go for ramen or tsukemen). If you're looking for a simple tsukemen in the Shibuya area, this is the place to go. And I ordered the regular tsukemen, not the spicy one. Despite knowing that I have a small appetite and can only handle a regular size (220g), I always end up ordering a medium size (330g) because it's the same price (*´∀`) Don't forget to add a flavored egg on top. I received my order over the counter while waiting for a seat. The noodles have the perfect texture for tsukemen, with a flavorful soup and a nice thickness. The bamboo shoots are small but good, the chashu is tender, and the seaweed adds a nice flavor. The flavored egg is soft and delicious. The fish powder and onions on the table are great for adding some extra flavor. Lastly, I finished off with some soup refills. Even with the soup refills, the onions still add a nice crunch. There was one staff member wearing a mask, but it didn't bother me. The tsukemen was great, and I will definitely come back since it's a familiar spot in Shibuya. Thank you for the meal! m(*_ _)m

I had a dinner meeting in Shibuya. The food was delicious, but the portion was small, so after the meeting ended, I wandered around like a zombie looking for a ramen shop. I was drawn to this shop as if by a magnet. I didn't know it at the time, but it seemed to be a famous tsukemen shop. It was around 10 pm on a Friday, and there were about 5 groups waiting inside and outside the shop. You order from a ticket machine first. Since I had just eaten, I ordered the "small" tsukemen. With the "small" size, you can choose one extra topping for the same price as the regular size. I couldn't choose things like chashu, so I ordered extra chashu separately and chose green onions as my topping. I was seated quickly and my food arrived promptly. The soup looked nice and brown, and the portion of noodles was sufficient even in the small size. The only thing that caught my attention was the shiny red pieces in the soup, which seemed to be quite a lot. I thought to myself, could this be... and when I tried it, it was indeed spicy. I don't like spicy food... Since they have a menu item for "spicy tsukemen," couldn't they make the regular tsukemen non-spicy? The soup was good, and the melt-in-your-mouth chashu was delicious. The noodles, which the shop seems to take pride in, were truly tasty. They were chewy and had a good bite to them, truly delicious tsukemen noodles. However, for me, it was just too spicy... That was the only downside. If you like slightly spicy tsukemen, this might be good for you. But for me, it was a bit too spicy.

Personally, I think "Yasubee" is the best tasting spicy tsukemen shop, and it's also the one I frequent the most. It's amazing that you can find this level of ramen in various places in Japan. Another attractive point of "Yasubee" is that you can customize the taste freely. My recommendation is to go for the double spiciness, small portion with vegetable topping, and double garlic. By choosing a small portion, you can add an extra topping, so I recommend going for vegetables to reduce guilt (lol). Lastly, sprinkle a generous amount of chopped onions from the table onto your noodles. This is my justice!!!!

On the way from Shibuya Station to Namikibashi, there is a tsukemen shop with quite a few customers. I ordered "Tsukemen - Regular size 860 yen tax included" with "Topping - Flavored egg 100 yen tax included". The noodles were thick and round, a unique type. The soup was sweet and spicy with a bit of a unique taste. I got a little tired of it, so I didn't add hot water to the soup. Thank you for the meal.

The line was long, but the turnover rate was good. The staff's customer service was excellent. It's interesting that any amount costs the same. It's a good deal for those who can eat a lot. The soup of the tsukemen was refreshing. The noodles were chewy and delicious.

Visited around 8 pm on Friday night. Even at this time, there was a line. It's a long-established place and still very popular. Ordered the usual spicy tsukemen from the ticket machine. Prices seem to be going up these days. Waited about 10 minutes and got a seat at the counter. Yasubei is always cramped, with people constantly bumping into you. The food arrived quickly since I had already given my ticket. Opted for a regular serving size. The soup had the usual delicious spicy and sour flavor! The noodles were chewy and delicious as always. The consistency is impressive. Added fish powder and onions halfway through, and finished in about 5 minutes. Maybe I should have gone for a large serving. Will definitely come back when I crave it again! Thank you for the meal!
