The gentleman who always treats me to eel a few times a year invited me to dine at Fushinotei in Izu-Sakura this time. It was my first time there. Before the eel, I had fried ginnan, fugu karaage, and firefly squid appetizers. I also enjoyed some beer and sake served in a bamboo tube. It was a luxurious moment. The main dish, the eel rice bowl, was soft and delicious as always. No matter how many times I eat it, eel is always delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I was craving eel while staying at home, so I checked Uber Eats. However, I found that most of the chain restaurants available did not serve eel. I prefer eel that is crispy, boneless, and juicy. I contacted Izu Sakae main store, but they only offered delivery from Funotei. I decided to try ordering from Funotei for the first time. Although I felt that the eel from the main store was a bit crispier, the one from Funotei was still delicious. I was thrilled that they offered delivery service. I definitely plan to order from them again in the future!

After enjoying cherry blossom viewing in Ueno Park, we happened to find this restaurant with a little wait time. We had a delicious meal with our family at this reliable and well-known establishment. The steamed dish is prepared in the Kanto style, with a soy sauce-based seasoning that is not too sweet, and it is wonderfully delicious. We were very satisfied today as well. Even if you prefer Kansai-style or sweeter flavors, I recommend giving this place a try.

The fluffy eel bowl was excellent, with the sauce and cooking just right! The carefully selected rice was also delicious, and you could feel the dedication of the manager in every detail. I could sense the overwhelming depth and responsibility of tradition, as well as the kindness towards each ingredient for the customers. I felt blessed to experience the great blessings that your restaurant offers. Looking around the environment, I was also soothed by the world view depicted in the paintings, reminiscent of Akira Nakao. Yes! This is Ueno, the forest of Japanese art! I felt grateful for the greatness that has been established through taste, vision, and environment. I was truly fortunate to have visited.

My husband's retirement celebration dinner was held at a new restaurant the next day. We had a mini eel set meal for 6600 yen and enjoyed some sake, including a brand called Izu Sakae. The total bill came to around 16,000 yen including seating charges. The restaurant had a dignified atmosphere, with a doll commemorating the twelfth generation Ichikawa Danjuro's name succession. Overall, it was a truly remarkable experience.

Ueno Izu Saka. It is a 300-year-old eel restaurant facing Shinobazu Pond. Today, in celebration, we had the "Matsu Course/8,800 yen" and it was delicious and satisfying. No matter how many times I come here, I am always impressed by the location, the view from the windows, and the interior, all at a reasonable price. Nowadays, if you have tea overseas, they might charge you 4,000 yen, but it's shocking how such wonderful Japanese cuisine is priced at this level. Note: As of today, the exchange rate is 3.38

On December 24th (Friday), I went to Izu Sakaenoshinobitei in Ueno. I entered the restaurant around 5 pm. Together with the nearby Unagi Kappo Izu Sakaenohonten, this might be the most visited eel restaurant in Tokyo. It had been a while since my last visit, which was in December 2018. The taste is the same as Unagi Kappo Izu Sakaenohonten, but this place feels nicer as the building is newer. When you order, the eel comes out right away at both restaurants. I was told it would take about 10 minutes until it was served. When drinking alcohol, it's important to pace yourself with the eel. I started with a beer (Sapporo medium bottle) and pickles. Along with that, they brought out some konbu tsukudani (complimentary). I added Nishinoseki sake (180ml, 1,100 yen) to my order. Soon after, I ordered the eel rice bowl. It wasn't piping hot, but it was delicious. This restaurant offers three sizes of eel rice bowls, and today I ordered the largest one with plum for 5,500 yen. Some places have significant differences in size based on the price, but here, I felt the difference wasn't that big between the middle (4,500 yen) and the largest size. I think many customers aren't too particular about that. It's a convenient restaurant for gatherings like memorial services or casual business meals. While there are many other delicious restaurants out there, this one is easy to visit without a reservation unless it's a special occasion. The restaurant provides tare sauce on the table. I tried the eel without it at first, but it tasted better with the sauce. I noticed that restaurants with tare sauce on the table tend to have a slightly lighter flavor.

This restaurant brought back memories of a student who immersed himself in reading the complete works of Japanese literature, recalling moments with authors like Mori Ogai and Tanizaki Junichiro. I enjoyed the Matsutake course for 8800 yen, which included various dishes such as tofu with caviar, assorted appetizers, sushi with sea cucumber, kelp, cheese ham, and herring, sashimi with fatty tuna, lean tuna, and flounder, tempura asparagus, roast beef, simmered dish, eel with matsutake sauce, steamed belly of Matsutake level, and strawberry mousse for dessert. The most impressive dishes were the fatty tuna and the eel, which were delicious and elegantly prepared. The strawberry mousse was likely Michelin-level delicious. The roast beef was average in taste and slightly dry. The simmered dish with sea bream and radish was good, but the sea bream could have been a bit less dry. Overall, the restaurant's combination of traditional Japanese art and modern technology, like the authentic ukiyo-e paintings and the latest carbon dioxide sensors, left a lasting impression.

I indulged in a luxurious lunch alone, enjoying eel in a relaxed setting. The sauce is sweet but not overpowering, rather light. The eel is plump and goes well with the sansho pepper. The sauce is served separately, allowing for unlimited refills. I also had sake with my meal, and the atmosphere was calm and enjoyable for a solo female diner. The location near Ueno, a hub for art museums, is also great. Today, I visited the Van Gogh exhibition, which further heightened my excitement. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. I was seated on the second floor and due to the state of emergency, alcohol was not available. I ordered eel rice bowl with pickled plum, grilled eel liver, and sweet omelette along with a non-alcoholic drink. The sauce for the grilled eel liver was a bit on the strong side. The eel in the rice bowl was tender and the sauce was just right even when added more. The sweet omelette was too sweet for my liking, which was a bit disappointing. The rice in the eel rice bowl was a lot, and since I don't usually eat much white rice, I felt very full and satisfied. I would like to visit again in the future.

I went to this restaurant with a friend for dinner without realizing it was not the intended restaurant, but I decided to stay. We started with some Japanese sake and enjoyed some grilled liver. The liver was big and had a great texture. Then we had grilled whitefish with wasabi, salt, and soy sauce. The wasabi salt brought out the delicate flavor of the whitefish. Lastly, we had grilled eel on rice. It was soft and fluffy, with a balanced and not overpowering sauce. The eel was delicious and satisfying. Overall, it was a great experience with tasty food.

I visited this long-established restaurant during the cherry blossom viewing season. The private room had a large window overlooking Shinobazu Pond. The background music felt like New Year's, but the atmosphere was very nice, and the sunken kotatsu-style tatami room made it easy to relax. I indulged in a course meal. The sake was paired with Mie's sake. The main dish, grilled eel over rice, had a crispy skin but tender eel meat. The sauce, made with only mirin and soy sauce without sugar, had a gentle flavor that allowed me to savor each bite without getting tired. I love plenty of sauce on my eel rice, so I asked for extra sauce, which was also delicious. The highlight was the grilled eel without sauce. It had no fishy smell and was incredibly soft, delicious with just salt and wasabi! The marinated squid and grated yam somen were also delicious. The slippery somen made only with grated yam matched well with the acidity and dashi. From the plump firefly squid and boiled udo to the fuki-no-to tempura, each dish incorporated seasonal ingredients with delicate yet impactful flavors. The sashimi, tempura, clear soup, fruit, and more made for a fulfilling meal!

I had never been to the Unagino Itoei Funamizumi store, so I stopped by on my way back from visiting the family grave during the Higan period. The parking lot is a bit hard to find, located between the main store and the Funamizumi store. I ordered the eel rice bowl with pickled plum. The basic soup comes with wheat gluten and green onions, but I asked to change it to liver soup. It took quite a while for the food to come out. The eel rice bowl had a slightly light sauce, so I added a bit more to make it richer. The eel was a bit firm in texture.

Today was my last day of work. It was a year that ended with the constant buzz of COVID-19, but I figured I could indulge a little without facing any consequences. I visited Kono Koi, located opposite of Shinobazu Pond. It's part of the main store, so it didn't offer anything particularly fresh, but I had never been there before. Recently renovated, it now boasts a luxurious atmosphere similar to the main store. On this day, I tried the "Donju" (7,700 yen) that I had been curious about. It takes some courage to order a single item at this price. It was my first time trying the two-tiered eel box. It may look like just one eel on top, but there's another one hiding beneath the rice, like an unagi hitsumabushi. The portion of rice was quite generous, making it a dish that leaves you feeling like you've eaten your fill of eel. The eel used by Izuei is supposedly domestically sourced from Aichi Mikawa Isshiki. Well, when you eat eel, it's hard to tell where it's from. Anyway, this eel box was truly impressive. The eel from Izuei has a slightly refined finish, so it may leave you wanting a bit more, but eating two whole eels definitely brings a sense of satisfaction. Perhaps this was a little reward for me as I near the end of my life as a salaryman.

I visited this place for lunch to have eel over rice since a long time ago. It has been quite a while since my last visit, almost 9 years ago. This time, due to the influence of the coronavirus, we had a quiet meal in a semi-private area. It was a weekday, so there was only one other group besides us. We were able to have a quiet meal. We ordered the Matsucourse (8,800 yen) this time. It includes 5 seasonal dishes, eel over rice, and a dessert. If you add alcohol, it will be around 10,000 yen. The seasonal appetizers were just the right amount to go with the alcohol. There were appetizers, sashimi, and other dishes that went well with the drinks. Towards the end, the eel over rice was served. The amount of rice was quite small, just enough to go well with the sake. The eel was tender with just the right amount of fat, and it was delicious. Personally, I don't know much about eel, so this is the only way I can describe it... delicious eel and seasonal dishes. The choice of eel at this time of year was a success this time. Overall, I was very satisfied with this visit. Thank you for the meal.

I visited here after going to the sauna! I had a good impression of the main store, so I decided to come here too. When I entered the restaurant, I was guided to a table on the second floor and ordered a bottle of beer. I was thinking of getting the usual eel rice bowl, but then I saw eel toro on the menu! I decided to try that instead. I also ordered octopus from Akashi as a side dish. The octopus was served first. It had a nice chewy texture. As for the eel toro, it came in a container that looked like a gourd. I opened it up and there were plenty of sashimi and tororo inside. I quickly poured lots of tororo over the eel - the fluffy eel and sticky tororo went perfectly together. There were also pickles and sashimi, so the balance was good! The calm atmosphere inside the restaurant was nice too. It's a great place to relax and enjoy your meal. I plan to visit again! Thank you for the delicious meal!

The grilled eel over rice was truly delicious. It had a very fragrant smell when I opened the lid. The eel was tender and the seasoning was a perfect balance of sweet and salty. The view of Ueno Park from the second floor where the eel was being grilled (was that a model?) was lovely. Enjoying the eel meal with the weight of the history of specializing in eel since the Edo period was truly a delightful experience. As for the atmosphere of the restaurant, there were some noticeable areas that could be improved, such as the dusty dishes and the casual conversations among the staff being easily heard. Despite the delicious meal, for the price paid, there are other restaurants with better ambiance. If the atmosphere was a bit more refined, I would consider coming back for another special occasion.

I decided to visit Izu Sakaeda, a place that appeared in my favorite novel. Even though it's nearby, I never had the chance to go... I ordered eel rice bowl. The fluffy eel arrived, and the sauce was delicious. I also tried An'yado and Tempura Matsuya. This eel rice bowl must have been the one they ate in the novel. I felt like I was time traveling while enjoying a delicious meal.

Located by the Shinobazu Pond, IzuSakae Shinobitei is a long-established eel restaurant that my mother loves. This place is a traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant where you can enjoy a leisurely meal in a Japanese atmosphere. On this day, I suggested treating my parents to a meal, so my younger sister and her husband, along with their newborn baby and my sister-in-law, joined us. We ordered a bottle of beer and some dishes like octopus tempura, deep-fried cherry shrimp, pickled vegetables, and sashimi. My mother couldn't resist and ordered the eel set meal. It was a relaxing Sunday afternoon in a private room, sipping on sweet potato shochu. The nostalgic scenery of the Yushima area outside added to the charm. We ended the meal with an eel rice bowl, which was appetizing with its sauce. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Perfect for a lunch meeting! This place seems ideal. The eel dish is consistently delicious and the atmosphere is great for a lunch meeting. They even have semi-private rooms. The other party was pleased! Considering the quality of the eel and the environment, the prices are reasonable, around 2000 yen for lunch. The menu also seems to offer options other than eel. Will definitely use this place again!
